Cloud Storage can mean different things to IT specialists, depending on how that specialist implements this technology.
A Cloud Storage provider generally operates a storage infrastructure, many times in locations that are dispersed. Simply put, Cloud Storage is a way of backing up, managing and maintaining data which can be accessed by many users over one network, like the Internet.
Cloud Storage can offer individuals and small companies an inexpensive data storage facility without the cost of purchasing their own servers.
Since individual data storage servers requires a lot of space, you save the cost of a larger work space and lets you use that area for a growing business, instead of the growing amount of data you will accumulate. One other benefit of Cloud Storage is that it can be provided with just as much security features as your personal data servers can provide and, sometimes, even more security features.
Since Cloud Storage is still considered a new technology, there will always be discussions about the problems found with this service. There are many ways of using Cloud Storage by individuals or businesses, whether you choose to use private or public cloud storage.
Next way to use Cloud Storage is to back up any data (movies, pictures, videos, documents, etc.). You can allow access to clients or employees around the world, which is safer than sending that data through the worldwide web. Many other Internet users and businesses are using Cloud Storage providers for security reasons.
You can use Cloud Storage for different reasons, but you will save space, money and secure your information better through a provider.
Barracuda's Copy and CudaDrive online storage services will be discontinued on 1 May 2016 following a strategic review by the company.
Paying customers are no longer being charged, and all users have until that date to ensure they have copies of all their files in another location.
Barracuda recommends users take advantage of Mover to transfer their data to Microsoft OneDrive without having to download and upload it all (detailed instructions are here), although Mover also works with a variety of other storage services including Box, Dropbox and Google Drive. Where data is to be transferred for multiple user accounts, Mover's charges start at $US20 per user.
If you prefer to download to a computer all the files stored in Copy, Barracuda suggests using the Copy Desktop Agent, making sure that all files in the cloud are set to synchronise with the computer, and that any previously deleted files that may be required are undeleted. Depending on the Copy settings on your computer, all your files may already be stored locally as well as in the cloud. Amazon has unveiled two unlimited storage plans for its cloud-based storage service, Amazon Cloud Drive, which come at some really great prices.
Cloud storage prices are becoming cheaper and cheaper, and we’ve seen Google about a year ago come up with some killer prices, only to be beaten by MediaFire a month later one. Most people have a lifetime of birthdays, vacations, holidays, and everyday moments stored across numerous devices. Subscribe to TechPPSubscribe to our email newsletter for useful tips and valuable resources. Two years ago, a majority of Americans thought a lightning storm could interfere with cloud computing.
We’re all coming around to the idea that cloud storage can be pretty darn convenient. This article was originally published November 12, 2012 and has been updated for relevancy.
While you’re at it, check out our how to guide for iCloud, and our guide to understanding the basics of Cloud Computing. The Lowdown: With a decent referral program, Carbonite is the affordable option for unlimited storage space. Google Drive borrows from Google’s powerful search algorithm to allow searches of not only file names, but also text in scanned documents and objects in images (a neat trick for those with years of vacation photos). If you're looking to set up your own personal cloud and forget about paying for services like Dropbox or iCloud, then check out these Personal Cloud Servers that will tend to all your storage needs, across all your devices.
Enter cloud storage – the elegant solution that allows users to upload all their digital media into one single place and access it from any device. Well, basically this device is just a scaled down version of Dropbox, iCloud or any other cloud storage service on the web. In simplified terms, a personal cloud server is a glorified hard drive that you can access over the Internet on different devices. The setup of the Western Digital MyCloud is fairly easy, and while it doesn’t have the very fastest transfer speeds, it still is one of the best out there. Another device that Western Digital offers is the My Book Live, which allows users to use this NAS device over the Internet via the dedicated app. The Western Digital My Book Live Duo on the other hand, is all about storing huge files on your network. If you plan on upgrading your home network with a NAS device that also acts as a personal cloud, then take a look at this gadget offered by D-Link. Users who want this device have to keep in mind that it doesn’t come with either hard drive, and they will have to buy their own and manually install them.
Another very well known manufacturer of storage devices has also created a dedicated home personal cloud server that allows the user to sync multiple devices to one location, and access any files they want over the Internet.
Seagate has three models that its users can check out, each of them having different storage capacities: 2 TB, 3TB and 4TB. Apart from the products listed above, there are other personal cloud servers that can be used for syncing all your files across different devices.
With the unlimited plans, customers no longer need to worry about how much storage is needed to keep their content safe and secure-they can choose either the Unlimited Photos Plan or Unlimited Everything Plan and pay one flat fee per year.
Customers can start experiencing unlimited cloud storage for free with a 3-month trial on either plan.
Because storage can be expanded without limit, most people think that these providers have a large infrastructure. Loosely coupled formats are tied together by a file storage that is global with storage features being executed individually. This access can be done anywhere in the world and shared with every authorized Internet user. The data is stored off-site and properly secured, which is required by many small companies, as well as individual business people. Instead of paying for more servers to hold your every-increasing data and then paying for more space to install those personal servers, you can pay a Cloud Storage provider less funds for an unlimited storage area.
You can limit the people that are authorized to access your Cloud Storage data or make that completely public, but you control that access.

You can increase the storage area of you own servers by placing a large chunk of archived data into a Cloud Storage provider.
This comes in handy when your equipment fails, gets hacked or you pick up a virus that prevents you from accessing your equipment. In fact, it is one of the safest ways to share, store, back up and access information that is required. Other services are supported at a cost of $US1 per gigabyte transferred, with a $US20 minimum. Barracuda said it will contact the administrators of Copy for Companies and CudaDrive accounts with instructions for migrating their organisations' data.
Instructions are here, but you'll need to scroll a little more than halfway down the page. And, they don’t know how many gigabytes of storage they need to back all of them up. With the two new plans we are introducing today, customers don’t need to worry about storage space—they now have an affordable, secure solution to store unlimited amounts of photos, videos, movies, music, and files in one convenient place. So, from this perspective, what Amazon is offering now is really great, but the question is – do you really need unlimited storage?
After all, my personal guess is that those who are already using cloud storage won’t say no to a service which offers a no-limit option.
Those who need just a few GBs will probably turn to Google, while others, like professional photographers and just somebody with a big digital collection, will probably seriously consider Amazon’s new offer. Today, cloud storage services are as ubiquitous as cumulonimbus in a Kansas tornado season. As demand grows for faster, higher-resolution videos and games – especially on smaller and smaller devices – our dependence on cloud storage and cloud computing will only increase. You’ll get $20 off your cloud subscription with every referral that subscribes to the service. This installs a folder where you can drag-and-drop files in order to transfer them to the cloud. If you sync your Dropbox folder to your main documents folder, Dropbox will automatically backup any changes you make to each document. Invite someone to share a particular Dropbox folder with you and that folder will appear right on their desktop. The web giant thrives on integration with Google’s other services, like Gmail and Google Docs. From there, Google Drive appears right in your Google toolbar, just a click away from your email inbox.
You can upload photos straight to Google+ or view more than 30 types of files directly in-browser, including some – like Photoshop or Adobe Illustrator – for which you may not have the actual software.
Thanks to integration with Gmail, you can share files with a click, with or without requiring a password. Taking photos, videos and collecting thousands of MP3’s does take its toll on our hard drives. It has the benefit of being in sight every minute, so you know exactly where your data is, as well as some added security.
You could view these personal cloud servers as NAS (network attached storage) devices that can be accessed via the Internet from any mobile device. This sleek looking device is very flexible, offering users access from all manner of mobile devices. Western Digital have made a name for themselves in the storage business, and thanks to the wide compatibility and stylish design, many think that this is the best product out there. The small size of the device means allows for easy storing and thanks to the integrated software, you can have it up and running within minutes. It also comes with 1-Year Limited Warranty, but performance-wise it has slightly lower transfer rates than other devices. This bigger brother of the standard My Book Live is twice the size, but also has twice the storage capacity. While this might seem not that appealing, compared to the other ready-out-of-the-box devices, it allows the user to customize the device, by adding the hard drives they want.
Also, the device has dedicated apps for Samsung smart TV’s and Blu-Ray players, as well as offer support for Facebook backup. Prime members and Fire device owners who already enjoy unlimited photo storage can choose to sign up for the Unlimited Everything Plan to store videos and files in addition to photos. It means storage capacity which can be access through a public network, like the Internet, or WAN (Wide Area Network). Many developers have stayed focused on how easy Cloud Storage is to manage and scalability. Tightly coupled formats are storage areas that are similar which are combined together to form one file system, or storage area. The service offers everyone that subscribes to a provider with instant access to all their data from anywhere and at anytime.
Even though there have been attempts to break into Cloud Storage providers, you hear more about stolen information from private servers.
You save on equipment, storage space and can have secured access whenever you want from anywhere in the world, so can your employees. This will increase the space you may require to update your current applications or software.
Instead, you can go get new computers and then go online and access all your data without a problem of losing anything.
This makes your data more secure than you could actually provide without paying a lot of money in software. For example, if you have information on your home computer, but are out of the office, you can use Cloud Storage and access that same information from any system while traveling because it was uploaded to that providers service center. But not anymore, as Amazon has come up with an unlimited cloud storage offer that should put an end to all your woes.
There are lots of cloud storage services out there luring in new users with free accounts, extra space, and social-networking rewards. Cloud services allow consumers access to a kind of network storage: hosting files remotely so that they can access them at any time from a number of computers and devices. For this reason, we always recommend encrypting sensitive files using software such as the free program TrueCrypt before entrusting them to the cloud. While there’s plenty of debate over which service to choose, no single choice stands head-and-shoulders above the rest. Promotions styled like gaming quests encourage users to invite friends to the service to earn more storage space. You can drag-and-drop files straight into your browser, or download the desktop client to have access to Google Drive as a folder, just like with Dropbox. And when you work with partners on the same word file, spreadsheet, or presentation, either separately or right at the same time, Google Drive marks the contributions of each person with differently colored labels to make clear what’s changed. And with such a massive collection of digital memories, the demand for more storage has never been bigger. For one, you can only get so much free space, after which you need to pay for every extra GB.

On the downside, having the device in your own home does expose it to other dangers, such as accidentally damaging it and losing your data.
The two-bay NAS comes at a price of $128, and for those who need some extra storage, there is also a 4-bay model which they can check out.
I sometimes miss the days when I didn’t know how to use a floppy disk, or how a computer CPU works, but now, until I find an answer to my questions, I’ll keep tracking these advances and show everything I find to those who share my interests.
Existing Cloud Drive customers can change their plans now by logging into their Cloud Drive accounts.
The data in these remote storage locations can be easily accessed at any time, from anywhere by the users and individuals around the world. Internet users have the capability of expanding the amount of data Cloud Storage can hold without any limitations, but may require you to contact the service provider. Grid architecture has Cloud Storage made with a host of individual servers, then tied together, which acts as a single storage center or manageable point. The technology that Cloud Storage providers use to secure their centers and servers is continually being developed to protect their members. With Cloud Storage, you can upload the data, or files, then share it with the people you want. The provider can also prevent viruses from corrupting your data, since it is an encrypted data storage center.  Since the service protects this data by encrypting the site, your files will never be susceptible to any viruses, including the news ones that always seem to come out. Each has certain advantages, and you’ll simply have to tinker around until you find the one that works for you.
Essentially, you can nab free cloud storage for your tunes, which enables music streaming to all your devices.
Businesses, mostly, but also anyone who has, say, thousands of high-resolution photos could do with a worry free backup as well. However, these days, just chucking another hard drive in your computer won’t cut it, most users want to have an unified storage option that spands across all their devices. This means that these services continue to improve their security technology to enhance the protection or your data. They can then go online to the Cloud Storage provider and retrieve the data themselves when they are ready.
No longer do you have to clog up your own email with photos you sent yourself for easy retrieval later. The cloud-based service automatically downloads photos, movies, music and documents to the cloud from a variety of devices. The basic storage plan costs $60 and you’ll get full backup on a single computer for one year. Finally, folders full of images can be viewed as a gallery, making Dropbox a viable photo-sharing alternative to Picasa, Imgur, and Flickr. Another approach to this problem can be a personal cloud device, and today, we’ll be taking a look at some of of the best different services that are out there. This makes everything more convenient and that data will remain in the cloud storage servers until you delete it personally. At the moment, companies are also on the lookout for a unique services suitable to store all official documents safely, spend less on storage appliances and also provide the client documents to their staffs and employees anywhere in the world. What is Cloud Storage? If I have to put in a technical way for defining cloud storage, it is basically a technique to store, coordinate and protecting the essential data in a virtual cloud that can be readily accessed by multiple users. Carbonite also offers advanced services, like a localized backup, but that’ll cost more and are only available for PCs.
These service providers have various plans depending on the amount of storage one needs for his computer. Data gets transmitted through internet and the users can have access to their stored data readily regardless of their location via internet.Benefits of Cloud StorageI’ve been dealing with cloud storage services for a long period of time and I’ve seen that most of the people don’t know what exactly they can get from these services. Wherever you are, the data is always accessible and readily available for restoration in case of any undesirable hard drive failure on your computer.Risks of Cloud StorageI don’t think cloud storage is an infallible service.
It’s totally upon you to shortlist the service providers that properly serves your purposes. I believe, it’s a simpler and easier way to keep your data stored on a cloud storage, since the monitoring techniques and administrative control is far better that any other storing approaches.
