Today, a new ownCloud version has been released - 5 -, which comes with many new features and improvements as well as a new interface. Also, in an update that should be available in April, ownCloud will get a newly designed server-side encryption application. However, after doing this, ownCloud became very slow and it still is when trying to access the Dropbox folder.
For those not familiar with ownCloud, this is a tool that you can install on your server (there are also desktop and mobile sync clients) which comes with a web interface that provides access to file management, calendars, tasks, image gallery, music player, document viewer and more.
The most important feature of ownCloud Client 1.8 will be support for sharing files from the desktop, as the new version will integrate further with your desktop environment, no matter the operating system used, allowing you to share files directly from your desktop.
At the moment, it works with the Nautilus file manager on Linux distributions, Finder on Mac OS X, and with Windows’ explorer.
This release also brings HiDPI (High Dots Per Inch) support for the Mac OS X operating system, support for Qt 5.4, dropping the libneon library dependency, initial support for multiple accounts, better file change detection, selective sync support for the command-line tool, direct download support, and reorganized source repository.

Aditya works on various parts of system life cycle and handles infrastructure automation and scaling of applications. His first contact with ownCloud was when he was just a student, and ownCloud itself was less than a year old, and a part of KDE project.
Taking a closer look at the new features implemented in ownCloud Server 9.0, we can notice that it now offers improved notifications, the ability to add comments and tags to any shared files, as well as better user interaction thanks to the standalone activity feed, all of which should help you find and organize your files faster and stay up-to-date with any modifications, always. With ownCloud 9.0, organizations and institutions like CERN and AARNet will be able to integrate deeply their massive ownCloud installations with various storage solutions and their infrastructure, thanks to the addition of a new storage API (Application Programming Interface) that allows for unimaginable scaling levels. You can install it on your computer or web server and access (and share) your files from any OS, since ownCloud comes with desktop clients for Windows, Mac OSX and Linux as well as mobile clients for Android and iOS. He is also a contributor at Fedora project. As a speaker, Aditya has given talks on Linux Basics, Puppet, Git, Koji and several other topics at several Open Source conferences. It also provides a platform to easily view & sync your contacts, calendars and bookmarks across all your devices and enables basic editing right on the web.

Founded six years ago as a project with the goal of bringing privacy and control back to users, ownCloud is where it is today thanks to contributions by well over 1000 open source programmers, designers, translators and others," said ownCloud.
Trusted ownCloud servers can be manually added by admins, who have control over the automatic addition of servers. We plan that for next week unless we see severe problems,” says Klaas Freitag in the release announcement. Installation has minimal server requirements, doesn’t need special permissions and is quick.
