I recently had my iPhone replaced due to a sticky power button but had a few problems when restoring from my iCloud backup. The second problem was a little more fiddly, and I still don’t really understand what the problem is. The result was that my apps would start downloading and as soon as the progress bar filled, the app icons would flash white and the app would disappear. Some data was not restored, for instance, apps that were removed from the App Store for legal reasons. I tried the suggested, syncing the iTunes, but that just gave me a new copy of the apps with all my app data missing. Thanks great tip, I had to replace my iPhone 5 (volume up broke) and the iCloud restore gave me the incomplete error. Restoring your device from an iCloud backup is convenient, but can be an extremely tedious process on a slow internet connection, especially if you’ve backed up a lot of media and applications. The Storage & Backup option under iCloud settings gives an overview of available and used storage, as well as an option to buy additional storage. If you have multiple devices linked to the same Apple ID, you can only modify the apps that you would like to back up, from the device you are accessing the iCloud settings from. I hope Apple adds the option for people that want it, but man, that is one specific complaint.I don't think I've ever wanted the feature.
That's all well and good if you're home alone, your phone rings, you aren't available, you find out when you return. I am in medical school and I can personally vouch against doctors wanting to be within earshot. Let the iCloud restoration begin and finish itself, this may take a while depending on how much stuff you had backed up and how fast the internet connection is.
The appearance is slightly different from various versions of iTunes, but the process is always the same. If you find that the last synced time is not particularly recent, you just need to backup your iPhone more often!
Note this process is the same regardless of the iOS version and iOS device, though it may look a little bit different depending on the versioning.
Restoring from a backup can be a meaningful troubleshooting trick if you’re experiencing many unexplained problems with the iPhone.
BEWARE: restoring from a backup to a different device than the original backup device (like if you upgrade or get a AppleCare replacement) will NOT restore your non-apple application data.
It says I need to put a password, I put my password in my iTunes account but it didn’t work. I upgraded to ios5, then do the restore from backup but it asks for password to unlock the backup file and actually, I did not set a password for it and don’t know what to do.
Ho w do you stop that going on and why doesn’t it look for old entries and ask to update I now only update on my contacts on the phone but would love to know how you can replace all the ones on the computer with the ones on the phone, cleanly. If a newer version of iOS is available, follow the onscreen instructions to download and install it.
In the Setup Assistant, sign in to iCloud, tap “Restore from a Backup,” then choose from a list of your backups in iCloud. Do you want to transfer iPhone data to Android phones, like Samsung, Lenovo, Motorola, HTC, LG? The phone transfer will start downloading your iPhone backup files from iCloud to this phone transfer tool. Welcome to here’s the thing, your source for practical tips, advice, and how-tos about the gadgets you use each day. Once configured properly, iCloud Backup will automatically make copies of all the settings, accounts, messages, photos, and applications settings on your iDevice and stores them on Apple’s servers.
It’s a great feature for anyone who rarely bothered to dig out their sync cables to manually back up their handsets with iTunes—assuming iCloud Backup works as advertised, that is. As someone who’s seen his fair share of computers and phones fail on him over the years, I wanted to put iCloud Backup to the test before trusting it with my precious data. I managed to solve them all so I thought it might help a few others if I described my findings here. Wait a few minutes and then attempt the restore again while connected to a reliable Wi-Fi network.
However, if you chose to skip that step, it is rather easy to set up the iPad to automatically back itself up to iCloud.

But before you take this step, it is a good idea to make sure your iPad is being backed up to the iCloud. If you still have problems, you can move on to the next latest backup, repeating the process until (hopefully) the problem is cleared.Restoring from a backup can take some time. One great feature in iOS 5 is that devices can now be set up and activated out of the box without having to connect them to iTunes. The process itself is completed in two stages, where your data is downloaded first, and your apps are installed later upon restarting the device (this requires a wi-fi connection).
Once a device is selected, you’re presented with a new screen that lists information on about the size and date of the last backup, and the ability to choose the apps you want backed up.
However, I do recall back in the day, being in a public place, someone's phone rings in their purse or jacket, they're off in the bathroom or in a meeting or something. I mean, there are actual laws about car alarms that go off repeatedly because they are so amazingly annoying. If we aren't on call (you would have a pager for this) then there is no reason to constantly check the phone.
Different people use their phones in different ways, and I'd appreciate a more aggressive reminding of missed calls.A similar problem (which I reported as a bug a year ago, but which is still not fixed) is audible notification of text messages.
What restoring from a backup does is pretty straight forward: it clears everything off the device, installs a clean version of the iOS system software, then recovers all personal stuff to exactly what it was like from the last backup. Typically this is done anytime an iPhone has been connected to a computer through a USB cable, assuming auto-sync has been enabled. Keeping frequent backups is a good idea across all devices, whether its your Mac, PC, iPhone, iPad, or whatever. If things are just running weirdly, battery drains exceptionally quickly, apps are crashing or just aren’t working properly, and when there is quite clearly a problem with the iOS system software or some specific settings on the device.

The restore is the one that worked for me, but it was pretty scary going through all the other options first and none of them working! Questio I put my sim card inside the slot and it is searching’s for an internet signal how do I get it to find I try and let it find it by itself and try to type it in with no success. A final step involves re-downloading all your apps from the App Store, a process that the iPhone handled automatically.
You must sign up for iCloud (it’s free, as long as you keep your online storage under 5 GB) and turn on iCloud Backup in the Settings menu. In the end only about half of my apps were restored – the rest appeared to be deleted.
If the data that was not restored also exists in your iTunes library, you can sync it back to your iOS device via USB cable sync as a work around.
Once the homescreen appeared again, I immediately tapped on one of the apps that previously failed to restore. This will take you to a screen that will display the last time the iPad was backed up to iCloud.Once you verify the backup, you are ready to begin the process.
The initial setup is quite straightforward; just choose your region, preferred language and configure Wi-Fi. However, if you’re accessing them from your iPhone, you cannot modify the list of apps being backed up on your iPad and vice versa. Something my Treo 650 used to do just fine.As great as new phones are, it is amazing how some of them have taken steps backwards in many little ways.
Not only do you have to listen to their phone ringing, but then you have to listen to the audible beep every so often and that can get quite annoying.
There are instances where I can see it being necessary. That said, I leave my phone completely silenced all day, every day and just check it periodically to see if anyone has tried to contact me.
Suppose you have your phone connected to a BT headset or headphones, and a call comes through. This is one of many reasons why making regular backups is recommended, particularly if you’re participating in any major iOS upgrades, adjustments, or tweaks (jailbreak or otherwise), because it lets you return to the last guaranteed functioning state of the device, with all of your data, apps, and customizations intact.
In most cases, a complete restoration will resolve such a problem, but if it doesn’t then you may need to take further actions through the official AppleCare line or Genius Bar.
If you already have that checked, then all you do is use your password that you set for it.
With this innovative data management tool for cell phones, it is no longer difficult to copy data and files from one phone to another, even from iOS to Android, Android to iOS, etc.

You can easily export iPhone contacts, SMS, call logs, photos from iCloud to Android phones.
You will start by erasing all data and settings from the iPad, which puts it into a clean state. You can then proceed to set up your device as a new device, restore it from an old backup (connection to iTunes required), or restore it from an existing iCloud backup.
This has been the cause of quite some confusion, as you cannot directly use your existing MobileMe account with iCloud without first migrating your account. Apple also offers refunds within 15 days of an upgrade or with 45 days after a yearly payment.
The feature itself though is incredibly useful as it tells you exactly how much storage space is being used by each of your device backups from one central location. Convenient for you, not always convenient for those around you.Honestly, get into the habit of checking the phone when you've been away and out of earshot.
The phone is smart enough to realize that it should still ring the phone speaker because you may not actually have the headset or headphones plugged in. You can do this by going to the iPad settings and choosing General from the left-side menu. The restore screen should give you estimates at each stage of the restore process, starting with restoring the settings and then booting into the iPad. In fact, I’ve manually had to keep a list of my purchase history to prevent buying the same app or song on two accounts. Morons won't even care to enable the cornerstone feature of any mobile device, but those who care - they will. You probably don't realize how retarded the 'quick tap' concept is, how extremely inconvinient for the user. It isn't worth breaking your concentration to be completely on top of things (insert link to any number of articles suggesting the human brain is horrible at multitasking here). But it does not extend that same level of intelligence to other notifications, most obviously text messages --- but I think also Skype or Viber calls.
I last recall the rep telling me in order to first access or unlock it was to input a simple four digit code but don’t remember if it was my last four of social or last four of ph # but at the time I did it n it worked. However if you have saved a backup using a phone management tool, how can you restore it to another phone?
Once the first app had succeeded all the other apps followed without me needing to tap on them individually. At this point, there’s absolutely no other cloud service that integrates a bundle of services as diversified and well thought out as iCloud. Otherwise yours is the phone people are going to want to smash with a sledgehammer because it's beeping every few seconds. Now that I need iOS 5 I must restore n backup but since no password was recognized so I had no choice but to go with set up as new iPhone n now I backed up pics, music but NEED my notes n contacts. For example, restore Samsung Kies backup to iPhone, restore iCloud backup to Android phone. Tapping this button will perform an immediate backup, making sure you have at least one data point you can restore from later. This should be enough to attract hordes of users that can leverage the advantage of having one ID across devices and stores and truly reap the benefits of an integrated ecosystem.
On the contrary, you can also use the same tool and follow the similar steps to restore Samsung Kies backup to iPhone.
This option appears after you have signed into your Wi-Fi network and chosen whether or not to use location services. Remember, if you have a lot of apps, it could take some time for the iPad to complete this step. Whether it is a commercial success for Apple, or a debacle like MobileMe is what remains to be seen. In addition to downloading apps, the process restores photos and other data, so if it doesn't look like there is progress, the iPad could be working on downloading more than just apps. Not a small matter by any means and surely not 'niche', since every freaking user suffers from this.If iPhones were really that good, they'd have a dedicated LED indicator for missed events and sufficient options to customize alerts, but they would be off by default so idiots wouldn't complain that their iPhone is bugging them. Leave it disabled by default, that's fine, might even add a warning before activating alerts, but this feature just needs to be there, man.
