Autodesk 360 is a cloud-based platform for accessing a range of cloud services, from basic editing to powerful rendering.
Whether you need to work with others on a mock-up or render a 3D image, adding cloud services to your Autodesk software helps you do your job faster.
Whether you plan on using it or not, you need to explore Autodesk's new cloud solution — it will change the way we use AutoCAD.
Now that the hype around the AutoCAD 2013 release has subsided a bit, it is time to dig into a new feature that could foretell a big change in how we use and manage our AutoCAD-based products. Are you responsible for any CAD management duties (conducting training, implementing software, establishing standards, etc.)? This week, SolidSmack was out at One Market Street in San Francisco, California for two days.
Autodesk 360 (formerly known as Autodesk Cloud) now provides even more cloud benefits to Autodesk Subscription customers, including additional cloud storage and the ability to access cloud services for rendering, simulation, design optimization and energy analysis.
Updates were made to all suites, adding Autodesk 360 capability, but for the Product Design and Factory Design Suites, that most of you will be interested in, there are additional products added to the three editions.
So, even if they are design trends of their own making, they’re certainly capable, as seen, of putting them into motion, even if they are the only 3D software companies actually involved in the trend. May 23, 2012 by Edwin Prakoso Leave a Comment I already wrote about Autodesk 360 integration in AutoCAD 2013. If you work with a small team or want to share drawings to consultant, this is a perfect alternative for Vault! To login from AutoCAD, you can click sign in button at the right side of AutoCAD title bar.
If you enable automatic saving to cloud, then every time you save your drawing, AutoCAD will upload a backup to the cloud storage. The interesting thing is, there is option to save to Autodesk 360 when you want to save a new file. If you save files locally let AutoCAD to upload them automatically, then just work like usual. But if you choose to save every new file to cloud and don’t have local file, you can open it from 360 storage. On the Autodesk University 2012 conference, Autodesk has announced a new cloud application - Fusion 360 - the first full-featured 3D CAD software based on the web cloud.
Fusion 360 lets the computing-intensive 3D operations on the infinite power of the web cloud, and so the client PC or Mac workstations can perform much faster.
Internally, Fusion 360 works with the ShapeManager kernel (now multi-threaded) and with the Autodesk T-Splines technology. Autodesk Fusion 360 will be available for purchase in the next year, as a subscription-based service. And as our office is based in Ceske Budejovice (Budweis in German) - the hometown of the famous Budweiser beer (the genuine one) - and as we are the authors of the Budweiser.DWG benchmark, and as we obviously do like beer, this company blog is called "Budweiser". With a simple thin-client application (for PC and Mac) and with the "unlimited" power of cloud servers, Fusion 360 is a surprisingly powerful 3D CAD application with fast and easy to use functions for processing CAD files in various formats, for modeling parts and assemblies, for analysis, publishing, data management, sharing and online collaboration.

An intuitive user interface is similar to the popular desktop software Autodesk Inventor Fusion. Fusion 360 designs are stored in the Autodesk 360 cloud but it can also store changes locally if your internet connection is lost. For even more AutoCAD how-to, check out Lynn's quick tips in the Cadalyst Video Gallery. They’re spread out across building, entertainment, engineering, construction, infrastructure, product, plant and factory design with 75% of their business happening overseas.
Updates galore, but most will be glad that the interface between programs continues to become more cohesive and the integration between many of the software packages is tighter. Subscription customers now have up to 25 GB of storage and between 100 and 500 Autodesk Cloud Units per user, based on the suite edition they purchased. AutoCAD Electrical, Inventor Routed Systems and Navisworks Simulate is included in the Premium and Ultimate editions. It features a new cloud-based factory asset resource that allows people to share models of various components needed throughout the plant design process along with Navisworks integration that adds built-in physics-based visualization and automation of the plant design floor.
Autodesk will be releasing the cloud-based Autodesk 360 Character Generator later this year. Autodesk Labs introduced 3D geometry generation by stitching 2D photos together with Project Photofly.
This is probably preferable if you already have a backup system and only want to share documents to other company. Autodesk Fusion 360 builds on the concepts of "Inventor Fusion" and of the recently released maker apps "Autodesk 123D". This offering extends the existing commercial cloud applications of the "Autodesk 360" family, e.g.
As an Autodesk Platinum Partner, we supply and support AutoCAD, Inventor, Revit, Civil 3D, 3ds Max, Map Server, Vault and other Autodesk products. But this new member of the Autodesk's cloud family is unique - it literally changes the CAD industry. The updates span the mechanical, construction and entertainment industries and all have one large overarching theme to bring them together.
All with the added benefit of not having to worry about upgrade, implementation or maintenance of software they actually do offer over the web, namely Autodesk 360PLM. On top of that, AutoCAD and Inventor are more tightly integrated, making the ability (and excuse) to not use the two together a moot point. While a bit crude and for subscription customers only, it’s definitely a feature that could be used across other software suites. You know about Autodesk 360 that connects you to the Cloud, AutoCAD WS that connects you to mobile and Autodesk 360PLM connects your process management to the cloud. Recently I read from the CAD Geek blog about attaching reference drawing from Autodesk 360.
And you don’t have to think how to publish collaboration workspace and let your consultant to access it.

How you can edit and view documents online, manage your files online, collaborate, uploading and downloading using browser, and how Autodesk 360 really works. Fusion 360 can open, edit and save CAD models in all common file formats - this tool is fully open to different types of CAD data.
Autodesk Fusion 360 is the first full-featured cloud CAD tool which offers a broad set of 3D functions, professional solid and surface modeling, plus rich web-collaboration and social networking tools. But conceptually, Fusion 360 is a completely new CAD application based on the cloud technology. This cloud tool does not replace Autodesk Inventor - Inventor contans complex design a modelling tools, creates drawing documentation and simulations. For example, you can have one 2000×2000 dpi image rendered at the flat rate of one Cloud Unit.
Brian Matthews who managed Autodesk Labs is now heading up a new Reality Capture division with the aim to 3D capture the entire world (if not the universe.) Really, they have camera-equipped drones.
Thanks to the cloud technology, the model data is accessible anytime, from anywhere, you can easily share it and cooperate on the designs using social collaboration tools. They’ve already been working with some organizations to fully capture historical sites with full city capturing in the works. For their deput Mobile app, Sketchbook Mobile, they’ve had 12 million downloads over the past two years with 150,000 downloads per week.
And although the change may take years to come to complete fruition, AutoCAD 2013 has let the Autodesk 360 genie out of the bottle.
Once you sign in you'll see your e-mail address (or part of it) along the top of the screen, indicating that you are, in fact, connected to the cloud.
A quick look at the pull-down menu shows that your AutoCAD settings will be synced to your cloud storage by default. At this point, AutoCAD will start to upload all the information you've told it to upload, according on your choices in the above steps. After the file transport (which could take quite a while) is complete, you are ready to operate your AutoCAD in conjunction with the cloud. Even if you don't think you'll use Autodesk 360, I'd still recommend taking an hour to get acquainted with the possibilities — in particular, learn how AutoCAD WS can be used to edit cloud-based drawings from tablet devices (note the Edit DWGs Online option at left side of the screenshot above). As with all things CAD, you want to be getting out in front of the trend so you can manage Autodesk 360 in a consistent manner, not ignoring it while your users create anarchy.
You have to admit that if you could get fast rendering turnaround from the cloud and never worry about graphics drivers, workstation configuration, software updates, or operating system constraints, rendering would be easier. It will be very interesting to watch as users acclimate to a cloud-based service and Autodesk 360 Rendering pricing stablizes.
