If you just got your new iPad, you're going to want to set it up and get it working just as quickly and effectively as possible.
For most people, most of the time, we recommend iCloud, but we'll walk you through both of them below.
When you turn on your new iPad, you'll be greeted with a Lock screen that simply says "iPad". If this is the first time you've ever used an Apple product or service or just want a new one, you can create an Apple ID. Agree to the terms and conditions of service by tapping the blue Agree button on the bottom left. For the smoothest experience and longest battery life, we always recommend setting your new iPad up as new (see above). A progress bar will show you an approximation of how long it will take to download your backup.
Once your iPad reboots, you'll be asked to re-enter all your passwords (as a security measure, iCloud will not restore passwords). If a software update is available for your new iPad, a popup notification will let you know, and a red badge will appear at the top righthand corner of your Settings app. Just like setting up your new iPad, you can either do software updates directly on your device, over-the-air (OTA) or by plugging into iTunes on your PC. OTA on-device updates are faster and more convenient since your iPad will only download the changes and update in place, so once it's done and rebooted, you're good to go.
By default you get 5GB for free, but the iCloud plan prices are reasonably cheap if you require more storage. This is the internet as long as your point is made let those control freaks waste their time typing. Use a period inside parentheses only if the enclosed material is meant to stand alone as a sentence.
I think it’s pretty ridiculous that the bloody update took over an hour to download, install, configure, and reset both computer and phone several times. But the most annoying thing is Newsstand, which can’t be deleted, hidden, or grouped into a folder. It keeps saying my login is wrong even though I know it’s right and it works in Itunes. Now, if you can just tell me how to delete a couple of pictures I took that will not leave PhotoStream? Once your device successfully connect with the program, you can see all the previous backup files listed automatically on the window. Apple's iCloud service is a bit of a handful when it comes to settings and interface, but it does come indispensable when you want to backup your phone's content, and then restore it should some unforeseen event happen. Or maybe check by the nearest NSA Office to get your Call Logs, Messages, and Safari History back.
But Apple didnt have this issue before, so it seems iOS9 is breaking lots of things which worked before. Ask Different is a question and answer site for power users of Apple hardware and software. But since I no longer have my previous iPhone, I don't know if there still is a backup to restore.

You’ll run out of free iCloud space especially quickly if you have multiple iOS devices. Open the Settings app, tap iCloud, and tap Storage & Backup to view how much space you have left in your iCloud account. To use less space for backups, look at the apps in the list under Next Backup Size and disable apps you don’t think need to be backed up.
If you have an old device you no longer use and it appears in this list, you can tap it and tap Delete Backup to delete the entire backup.
Install another app like Google+, Dropbox, or Flickr that can automatically back up your photos and have the app start backing up your photos. You may also want to disable Camera Roll backups if you do this, as your photos are being backed up to a different service anyway. Tap an app under Documents & Data on the Manage Storage screen to view the files taking up space.
I ignored the omission in that related "No iCloud isn't backing them up" article, but this article is brand new. Disclaimer: Most of the pages on the internet include affiliate links, including some on this site. Doing this will completely erase your device, making it ready for the next user to set it up for their use. MacTrast Senior Editor, and self-described "magnificent bastard," Chris Hauk owns Phoenix Rising Services and writes for everyone's favorite "bad movie" website, Big Bad Drive-In. The first thing you’re going to want to do is make a fresh backup of the old iPhone you’re replacing. Note that sometimes apps will need to re-download from the App Store on the new device, this starts automatically when the iPhone 6S boots up again and can be quick or a while depending on your internet connection speed and how many apps need to be downloaded. You’ll probably want to double-check that everything is there and that all of your stuff is in order. I completed the restore but my email passwords and health data aren’t showing up on the new iPhone 6S!
You have to reset the Apple Watch (like erase it) and re-pair it with the new iPhone, total pain in the butt to migrate.

I just got my iPhone 6s Plus it’s definitely heavier than before but feels much better made!!
Bought my 6s Plus (upgraded my 6 plus) (I get a new phone every year) Anyway, my 6 Plus had updated IOS 9 on it. Starting fresh with a clean install is a good way to avoid trouble, but I restored mine from a backup and I am running just fine.
We have been through this multiple times on new iPhones for our business and all it does is give you the option to log into iCloud (it does give you the option to create a new account if you don’t have one already).
You are wrong and you are clearly the one doing something wrong because this article is 100% correct and I have setup multiple new iPhones this exact way. Having set up my new iPhone 6S plus, I thought what a great phone it was until today when the darned thing suddenly decided that it would not accept my fingerprint. I started to use my iPhone 6s and downloaded many apps but I want to restore from my very old iPhone’s backup. This is a great article, and I transferred everything to my new iPhone 6s as directed; it went seamlessly. I am going to have to go through this with my two iPads as well because of this Apple ID change. Just got my new IPhone6 SPlus and I tried to connect to ITunes in order to backup and I am receiving an error message that says that my ITunes need to be updated in software though I am running the updated software. Yes that is correct, a good size iPhone takes many hours to backup, and many hours to restore. Your iPad will show you the most common languages for the area in which you bought it, but you can tap the downward arrow icon to see all the choices. Location Services use GPS, cell-tower triangulation, and Wi-Fi router mapping to determine the approximate location of your iPad. Even if you're on 3G or LTE, your iPad wants Wi-Fi because there may be a lot of data to move around and blasting through your data cap on setup is no fun. Also free, also incredibly useful to track down your iPad if you ever lose it or have it stolen.
It's anonymous and helps make Apple make better products, but if you're uncomfortable with the idea, choose Don't send. You still need to get apps and games, books, TV shows, and movies, set up your email, get iMessage and FaceTime up and running, and much much more. The next time you apply for a job, sure, go right ahead and use bad grammar and misspell words. By using sloppy language, you are indicating that you don’t care about how your information is presented. Clearly, iOS has major integration, and yet we can’t access it even if our system is a few months old? I want to know if my desired account name is still available and want to claim it before someone else claimes it.
Apple gives away 5 GB for free, and then you have tiered pricing for each additional storage amount you might need.
If you don't want to go through the trouble of updating to iOS 9.1 on both handsets, and then resetting the replacement to factory, you can simply back up via iTunes, or use third-party apps as an extra precaution.
Device backups, photos, documents, iCloud email, and other bits of data all share that space.
For example, you might disable backups for apps like Pocket, Twitter, and Evernote because those apps automatically sync their data online anyway. By default, iOS 7 uses both Photo Stream to sync the most 1000 recent photos between all your devices and also backs up your device’s Camera Roll, which contains any photos stored locally. It will back up your photos to a separate pool of storage — your Google Drive, Dropbox, or Flickr storage.
They count toward your iCloud storage, so you may want to delete any files you don’t care about.
If it’s not set up, you can visit the iCloud website, open the Mail app in your browser, and delete emails with the web interface. Apple currently offers three paid plans — an additional 10 GB for $20 per year, 20 GB for $40 per year, or 50 GB for $100 per year. To setup an iPhone 6S correctly and to successfully transfer your stuff over to the new phone, you’ll want to walk through a few specific steps. This is fastest to do with a computer and iTunes because of USB 3.0 speeds, but technically you can use iCloud too if you have a very fast broadband connection.
Take a look at your photos to be sure they’re in place, open Mail app, flip around on the Home Screens to be sure your apps are there, check your Contacts, etc.
Apple should make it easier, it takes like 30 minutes to do the Apple Watch migration alone! I backed up to both iCloud and iTunes, but decided to start fresh, not wanting to transfer any problems from my 4s. Setting it up with an iTunes backup is by far the fastest way, it’s a very obvious option as you setup the device.
However shortly afterwards, I was prompted on my new 6s to sign in at the Apple ID site in Safari (can’t recall what I was doing when I was prompted to do that). How can I get all of my devices set up with the new Apple ID and still import all of my saved data without also pulling in the now defunct Apple ID?
It is an older Mac but I have never had this problem before especially that only 3 months ago I synced a IPhone6 with that version of ITunes.

While the steps might not be that many ( though its way more than 2 ), the time required is currently at about 5 hours here.
Maybe this is why Apple still sells tiny sized iPhones, despite they are always running out of storage space. If you prefer the old-school approach, you can also set up your new iPad using iTunes on your Mac or Windows PC. You have to look at the choices and tap one to check it before the Next button will even activate.
This feature is used for turn-by-turn navigation (like Navigon, check-in games (like FourSquare), social networks (like Facebook), geo-tagging (like in the Camera app), and utilities (like Find my iPad, etc.
It keeps all your data safely backed up and let you restore or easily switch to a new or additional iOS devices later. Medium updates might add a few new features or support new devices (for example, iOS 5.1 released in March of 2012 with the new iPad).
While creating a folder with 2 apps (not Newsstand), quickly grab the Newsstand app and drag it into the folder while it’s still creating.
I predominantly want it to sync all my mail and contacts between my devices but my mac seems to want me to set up an iCloud mail count (then I guess use the other mail accounts via that). Then you will be prompted by Setup Assistant by a new iPhone to set up as a new phone or restore from backup. Unfortunately, plenty of services count against that quota, including your photo library, emails with attachments, documents with iCloud Drive and general backups of people, messages, apps settings and so on.It's exactly these general backups that are going rogue after grabbing replacement iPhone 6s handsets, many users are reporting now. The one main thing I liked about iOS that Android fails to do to this day, is backup all my app data. You may disable Camera Roll backups if you’re using another method to back up your photos. This is a confusing system, which is why Apple has announced they’re simplifying things with a single iCloud Photo Library that contains all your photos in iOS 8. You’ll have a backup copy of your photos stored online, but you get to keep all that precious iCloud storage for other functions.
Be careful when doing this, as you could delete important documents and other files you might want to keep. This is in addition to your 5 GB of free space, so the plans actually give you 15, 25, and 55 GB of storage space. For anybody with a Windows PC (which is a lot of people) it's a no-brainer since the synced photos just show up on your PC without automatically eating your disk space. We’ll show you how to this in the quickest way possible so that you can get on and enjoy your new iPhone.
Everything should be there, but if it’s not, don’t flip out, we’ve got you covered with the troubleshooting steps below. This is fairly common, and if you find that no passwords or health data is on the new iPhone 6S, this is why.
This can be quick, or take a while, depending on the speed of your internet connection and how many pictures and videos are needed to download.
Unless you have a particular need to globally disable it, you'll want to turn on the Location Services feature at this point. The problem is, i read a lot about iTunes getting confused by having one ID for this and another for iCloud. I hate when I have made it far in games and I need to upgrade and I have to basically start over. When you disable backups for an app, the data will be deleted from your iCloud storage online and won’t be part of future backups. For many users with many GB of media, it can take a while, which is why we recommend using the iTunes backup and iTunes restore method outlined above.
New iPhone 6s models ship with iOS 9, not 901 which was released earlier this week, so many people are going to have mismatching versions. For now I signed out of iCloud on the old 4s, and then signed in using the new Apple ID, but I lost most of my photos and many Notes.
Is it absolutely necessary to have an iCloud email to make the other email accounts sync please? Then I would wipe it clean and hope that, as I went through the setup process again, it would allow me to enter my new Apple ID. They are backed up through iTunes, on the Cloud, still on my 2 iPads (that are still using the old Apple ID), and even on Time Capsule.
My old Apple ID (old email) was cancelled 3 years ago, but I left it as my ID because I am aware of the problems associated with trying to change one’s Apple ID. But I just don’t know how to get them into my new 6s (or how I will do this with the iPads) without also pulling in the old Apple ID.
I didn’t know the Apple site would take my current email address and make it my new Apple ID, but that is exactly what it did. Apple really needs to fix this, as it has been a source of frustration for many customers for years! But of course, that password no longer works for the old Apple ID… it works with my new one, which I cannot enter into the phone unless I set it up as a new phone. I have spent hours trying to solve this problem and would greatly appreciate any suggestions. I can’t enter my cell phone #, probably because the new phone does not have my new Apple ID in the iCloud settings section.
