Google has cut the price of its paid tiers within Google Drive, lowering the cost barrier for those who've been content to coast on top of its free services.
In fact, the available cloud space Google offers is far more than its rivals offer, such as Dropbox. It's likely that this race to the bottom will continue, as drive makers keep increasing the capacity of their drives while holding prices relatively constant. With the launch of Google Drive and SkyDrive paid plans Cloud storage market is now crowded with too many players offering their services.
For some pricing may not be a priority for example for businesses, they want features like security and reliability.
While I would prefer SkyDrive and Dropbox as I am using them currently, you can decide yourself what best suits your needs. Do you use any of these cloud storage services, if so what is your favorite and what would you recommend to others.? GCPLive Google has dramatically lowered its cloud prices far below those of its rivals – as the search kingpin seeks to eradicate the fat profit margins of the cloud industry.
The web giant announced today at its Google Cloud Platform event in San Francisco a 68 per cent price drop across the board for Google Cloud Storage – as El Reg told you over a week ago – along with a 32 per cent cut in on-demand compute pricing, and an 85 per cent price cut for its Big Query data analysis engine. The advertising giant noted that cloud prices across the industry were falling by about 6 per cent each year, whereas hardware costs were falling by 20 per cent.
It also introduced a new automatic price reduction called "sustained-use discounts" that will lower prices for customers further as they use Google's services more – a service that directly takes on Amazon's reserved instances. The Google Cloud Platform competes with services from rivals Amazon and Microsoft, along with various second-tier operators such as Rackspace, Joyent, Tier3, Savvis CenturyLink, Verizon Terremark, and so on.

Like Microsoft, Google woke late to threat posed by Amazon Web Services and, also like Microsoft, has invested heavily first in platform services like Google App Engine, and then infrastructure tech like Google Compute Engine, to help it catch up. Since then, Google has become competitive on both a performance and pricing standpoint with its chief rivals, but has failed to develop the expansive set of services and associated ecosystem that Amazon and, to a lesser extent, Microsoft can call their own. With these changes on Tuesday, Google has instantly become the cloud leader in terms of price by a wide, wide margin. 11:52 am August 16, 2013 By Julian Horsey Google has this week announce an important security update to its Google Cloud Storage service which is now being enabled automatically provide server side encryption to all your files stored within the service.
Google has enabled the new feature to make securing your data as easy and painless as possible and the Google Cloud Storage will now automatically encrypt all your data before it is written to the server side disk at no additional cost. Photos uploaded to Google+ Photos don't count against your storage limit, and you can also store your own MP3 files in Google Play, up to 20,000 songs. What will be interesting is when cloud storage providers begin offering cheaper storage tiers designed for backing up and restoring data, rather than instant access. As a user you have now more than handful of services to choose for your online storage needs.

All these services offer free storage to users and if you want more storage for your needs you can always buy using their paid plans.
For users pricing also plays an important factor along with other features in determining the cloud storage for their needs. Google Drive is any way is integrated well with Google Docs and Gmail, and 5GB is good enough for average user.
Amazon will have to dig deep to battle Google for business now and developers will reap the proceeds of this brutal margin-destroying war. We manage the cryptographic keys on your behalf using the same hardened key management systems that Google uses for our own encrypted data, including strict key access controls and auditing. You can unsubscribe at any time and we'll never share your details without your permission. Facebook, for example, is moving to using Blu-ray discs to offer "cold," or relatively unused storage to archive photos.
Each Cloud Storage object’s data and metadata is encrypted with a unique key under the 128-bit Advanced Encryption Standard (AES-128), and the per-object key itself is encrypted with a unique key associated with the object owner. But in terms of pure cloud storage services, there's more than enough free digital space to mooch on without having to spend a dime.Box offers a slightly smaller set of 10GB for free. Dropbox has 5GB free from the onset, after which users can easily increase by adding social media accounts and referring their friends.
