I honestly can’t think of the last time that I spent a day without powering up one of my devices.  There was one time when I arrived at work and the Internet was down. There are some days where I feel like I just need to disconnect, hop on a plane, and walk the Camino for a month.
In this week’s Technology and Ethics course, Robert Bailey (the instructor) asked us to think about our own ethics, where they come from, and how they influence our views.
I couldn’t figure out what to do, since my entire workday is usually spent on the Internet.
Sure, I won’t have a job when I get back and it might be hard to pile my life back up again when I get back, but sometimes I think that kind of disconnection might actually be worth it. It’s ruined the lives of people affected by a Nuclear Power Plant meltdown, it’s caused an oil spill that killed off what seemed like a whole ecosystem and it’s allowed people to kill individuals on the other side of the world using an unmanned drone. We were asked to read a well-known article, The Roots of our Ecological Crisis, by Lynn White Jr.
If you're using Google Chrome, you'll have to download the image to your hard drive and then set is as a desktop background by going to Control Panel -> Personalization. I think the main question in my head is whether technology use, without ethical training and ethical discussion, makes us (makes me) less concerned. A few really great quotes are featured in this article, including, “all forms of life modify their contexts” (p.

On one hand, spending life in the Internet and hopping from one cloud to the next has made my living requirements minimal. I love being able to access my files and music that I store in the cloud from any device and from anywhere I am. I don’t need file cabinets for important documents, bookshelves for cookbooks, or crafts to occupy my free time.
Technology has assisted my doctors in caring for me, it’s allowed me to stay connected with relatives who live far away, and it’s been my prime source of education for the past 10 years.
Technology has given me access to many things that I wouldn’t otherwise have access to if technology didn’t exist. Lately, however, I’ve been wondering if this way of living means that I am living a good life. Not only has man managed to foul its own nest, but also he’s managed to foul the nest of many other creatures on this planet, including other humans.
At what point will the citizens of this planet decide that acting alone without consideration isn’t right, band together, and take action to amend laws that allow anyone to take advantage?  Last week, I mentioned that our Founders couldn’t have imagined the state of things today and the destruction that man has seemed to do all by himself, to himself and to others, including the planet he lives on.
We have a good idea of what the Founders really were fighting for through their writings, and along with the ‘Pursuit of Happiness’, many of them believed in respect for all living things and nature. White also says, “the issue is whether a democratized world can survive its own implications” p.
