Box is perfect for businesses looking to save time and money with powerful cloud collaboration features.
When you first log into Box, you’ll be greeted with a quick overview of the interface and how it all works. Using these permissions, you can fine-tune exactly who has access, and what level of access they have. If you’ve ever felt your cloud storage service was missing something, Box probably has an app for it. At the time of this review, Box integrates with 788 apps to connect with other products and services. Those are just a sample of the available settings, but it gives you a pretty good idea of how customizable Box is for admins.
Box stores up to 25 versions of a file on the Starter plan, 50 versions of a file on the Business plan, and 100 versions of a file on the Enterprise plan. Box offers a series of free and paid online courses, to teach account admins how to get the most out of Box.
At the same time, however, for many, it perhaps feels like cloud hasn’t come far enough - once users get an appetite for technology they want the IT version of the moon on a stick.
This is putting increased pressure on already pressurised IT departments and means business and tech decision makers have to provide even more leadership and guidance then ever before. In our first IT Pro report entitled Cloud Computing in 2012, we looked at what cloud is and pondered its potential for business transformation.
This report aims to move the story on and arm IT professionals, managers, directors and C-level executives with greater insight into not just what cloud can do for their business, but the other factors they must consider. So how can the two co-exist and what do businesses need to bear in mind and do to get there? Security and privacy continue to be major concerns and barriers when it comes to cloud adoption. We also run down the storage options available to businesses to help you make the right choice for your organisation.
This report also features cases studies from the Alzheimer’s Society, Cancer Research and Lamborghini so business and technology decision makers can benefit from the experience of others when it comes to the cloud. All in all, we hope this report provides you with answers to some key questions and leaves you feeling ready to take cloud to the next level in your organisation rather than taking a step back. Another noteworthy feature is that Backblaze will – for a fee – post your backups to you on an external hard disk as an alternative to your downloading it.

When you install Backblaze on a computer, it automatically selects almost everything except the Windows and Program Files directories, and promptly starts uploading.
As with any online backup service, the speed of Backblaze’s backup and recovery is down to that of your net connection. The optimal solution is to set up Backblaze on a freshly installed PC and simply allow it to progressively back up data as you create it. It’s easy to navigate Backblaze’s configuration settings, where various options are available across a range of tabs.
However, there is an extra hard-coded exclusion list, which prevents Backblaze from backing up files created by other backup software such as Apple TimeMachine and Retrospect Backup. We would have liked to be able to add multiple directory exclusions at once, rather than having to select them one by one by browsing to them via the Add Folder button, though. Compared to rivals such as LiveDrive, Backblaze’s software client feels a little dated and lacking in features.
If you’re on a slow internet connection, or one which limits data throughput on a monthly basis, then you can throttle your backups. Backblaze uses 128-bit AES encryption to secure your data as it’s transferred from your PC to the data centre via SSL.
Backblaze has a single datacentre, located in California, with data stored across multiple “storage pods” on site. Version control is essential in cases where a critical file turns out to have been deleted or overwritten. While the Backblaze for Business client is the same one used by the personal version, the account administrator gets emailed reports on the backup status of each machine associated with the account.  You can deploy it under a single email address, so your administrator has access to all the data and handles all restoration, or you can opt for a domain site license, which allows for any user from within the same domain to install and use the system on their own. You can use the same interface to have the data sent on a USB flash drive, priced at $99 (?66) or a USB hard disk, priced at $189 (?126) – the cost of shipping is included in both.
There’s also an iOS and Android app that allows you to browse and download individual files of under 30MB from your online backup, giving you fast access to that document you forgot to copy before leaving the office. Backblaze’s pricing and postal restore options are great, but we’re not sold on the software client, which makes it a chore to be selective about what you do and don’t wish to back up. Side by side comparison of 2015 Best Business Cloud Backup Comparison in the market, based on Price, Storage, Ease to use, File Share, Security, Backup features, Reliability, File access, and you can read our full review and rating, We hope these will help you make right decisions and to find the best business cloud backup service for your business and data, save yourself some time and check this list out.. Gartner research publications consist of the opinions of Gartner’s research organization and should not be construed as statements of fact. Everywhere we look, the cloud seems to be there - it’s like the industry is a film with the cloud on an overt product placement mission.
It would be wrong to suggest every business, in every sector, is going to rip and replace what they’ve always had and go 100 per cent cloud. As a perk, while many online backup and sync services can tell you where your computer last connected to the internet from, Backblaze provides reports and mapping specifically designed to help recover lost or stolen hardware. It’s common for an initial backup to take several weeks, but if you have a great deal of data on your PC, this could take longer. If you’re installing your backup software on a system with plenty of data already in place, you’ll want to check your settings to make sure your bandwidth isn’t being wasted on anything unnecessary.

There’s also no way of seeing which folders you’ve already excluded when you’re in the directory selection Window. The main interface also has a pause button, so you can immediately halt Backblaze if you have to upload something else without any competition.
You can also add an extra layer of security by using a private key, with a passphrase of your choosing. Backblaze will store previous versions online for 30 days, and you can access different versions from the web-based restoration interface.
You just browse through a tree view of your backed up files and select the folders you wish to restore.
Helpfully, once its initial backup is complete, Backblaze defaults to continuous backups, so files are backed up as soon as you create or change them. Businesses that deal with personal information will be leery of the absence of a Safe Harbor provision, and it’s worth noting that the company has only a single data centre location, meaning that there’s no remote redundancy for your data in case of a site-wide disaster.

Here, you can add directories and extensions to be ignored during the backup process, as well as optionally excluding files above a set size. Note that it’s your responsibility to remember this, and Backblaze won’t be able to retrieve it if you forget it. This essentially means that if you use Backblaze, you have to make sure that your customer and employee records are not included in the backup. This 30 day limit also means that you have to connect any external media you wish to keep backed up at least once every 30 days, otherwise Backblaze remove the files. They’ll be zipped up, including their full directory structure, and you’ll be sent an email when they’re ready to download. However, you can change this to a daily or on-demand backup, which you’ll want to switch to if, for example, you use a limited mobile broadband connection for working on the move. Users with fewer systems to back up will be directed to the near-identical Personal version. Although Backblaze won’t be suitable for all UK businesses due to data protection issues, its low cost makes it a contender for small businesses in particular, despite a few flaws. Backblaze automatically excludes ISO and MSI files, among others, but these can be removed from the exclusion list. The Magic Quadrant is a graphical representation of a marketplace at and for a specific time period. It depicts Gartner’s analysis of how certain vendors measure against criteria for that marketplace, as defined by Gartner.
