It’s no secret that the enterprise file, sync and share market has exploded in the last few years, with clear players racing to be the “must have” cloud service solution to improve your business. At Syncplicity we believe it’s our maniacal focus on user experience and our ability to offer customers options for data storage (on-premises, off-premises or hybrid cloud) that make that priority a no-brainer. We’ve been around the track a time or two, and have noticed that while others less than stellar apps tend force it one way or another, it’s clear that true hybrid storage strategies should not require enterprises to compromise security for cost savings or user experience. Syncplicity’s position on the Magic Quadrant aside, it’s our unique approach to file syncing and sharing that has really edged us out in front.

Accelerate your business and IT transformation with cloud, big data, and technology consulting and services. Storage devices, such as CDs, USB sticks and external hard drives, have been many people’s option of choice for backing up important data for a long, long time.
Cloud storage keeps your data secure far from the original files and, in general, stores your documents on multiple servers, in multiple locations – if one copy is somehow damaged, there will be yet another copy waiting on another server.
These days, no storage device can really compete with the convenience and security that online cloud storage can offer. For a Dropbox alternative that lets you sync any folder on your computer, SugarSync offers the best cloud storage experience, although at a premium price. With the Devices tab, it’s easy to figure out which folders are syncing to which computer. I’m deducting a full star because of this, with the hope they re-add SugarSync Drive in the future.
The mobile app can automatically backup photos and videos, so even if your phone is lost or stolen your media files can be recovered. Swiping through photos is much faster than previous versions of the app I tested, which is a nice improvement.
It uploaded my files at 8 megabits per second (Mbps), which maxed out my internet connection. SugarSync transfers files using Transport Layer Security (TLS), so it’s safe to transfer files over public Wi-Fi and hotspots.
SugarSync is the best any-folder cloud storage service, due to the simplicity and powerful features that anyone can use. By far the best feature is SugarSync doesn’t require you to rearrange your hard drive. The problem is that a lot of other cloud storage services don’t offer refunds as well (including OneDrive), so the problem is pretty widespread. It took a LOT of searching through PayPal to find the appropriate link to click on that displayed my list of pre-approved payments!
I haven’t reach to the stage mentioned by Ralph where they want to purge our data immediately.
Besides this cancellation issue that I have here, I don’t have any problem with their main services.
Yes it is very pricey compared to others, especially considering they don’t allow the backup of any external drives, whereas other providers do. It was nice of them to offer to call you, I didn’t get that offer, but I suppose they would still be calling you between 1AM-5AM? In the meantime I have been trialling both Carbonite and CrashPlan, both of which allow external drive backup (though Carbonite does not allow it during the free trial). At its core, My Cloud works a lot like a My Book - connect it to your local network and you can map shares to your client PCs with ease.

At launch, WD has desktop apps available for PC and Mac users, as well as mobile apps for iOS and Android. It's worth noting, also, that while PC users can easily gain access to network shares, WD doesn't currently offer sync capabilities. Given the surge in mobile-device sales, it's no surprise to find that WD's iOS app is more polished and equipped with a greater number of features. Local performance is good, but things get more complicated when remote clients come into play. Power consumption, meanwhile, is minimal, with the 2TB model drawing as little as 7 watts during extended idle and up to 12 watts during use, while noise is barely discernible. WD's user-friendly approach makes My Cloud suitable for mainstream audiences, and we can see it becoming popular among consumers seeking anywhere access to a single web-connected repository. WD has taken the My Book Live and modernised its core functionality to offer greater appeal to today's multi-device consumers. My Cloud, armed with a quicker dual-core processor and USB 3.0 connectivity, is a competent home NAS that's now topped-up with streamlined software and a variety of apps that just about anyone can use. The first My Cloud units are off to a promising start, and here's the real kicker: you can forget those expensive SkyDrive or Dropbox subscriptions you've been considering.
I'm intrigued by this, it might make a good media server and back-up location for the less tech savvy (e.g. For users, we still live by the mantra that design matters; Syncplicity is functionally beautiful, easy to navigate and visually stunning.
We’ve listened to our customers and developed a solution that is not black and white, but a combination of what enterprise users crave (beautiful user experience) and IT departments demand (hybrid cloud choices and the utmost in security). EMC makes no representation or warranties about employee blogs or the accuracy or reliability of such blogs.
When they first appeared, they solved a serious problem with hard disk failure, which caused a whole lot of valuable data to be lost over the years.
Unfortunately, there are many potential disasters that are as likely to affect a peripheral device as they are your computer. With cloud storage, there are few disasters short of an asteroid destroying the surface of the earth that could remove your access to your files.
With cloud storage, you can grant other people access to specific files among your storage and work on them simultaneously from any location. Check out our Top 5 table below to find some of the best cloud storage providers available and find out for yourself just how much safer your documents can be.
They insist me to contact them at only that window, which means for me that live in Malaysia it suppose to be at 1AM-5AM in the morning. Mapped shares are, in our experience, the best way to organise and manage centralised data, but no modern-day server would be complete without a catalogue of supporting apps that provide various levels of functionality across a wide range of devices.
There's no support for Windows Phone, however, and WD's desktop client for Windows PCs is visibly basic at this stage - it provides file and folder navigation, along with support for drag and drop, but we see no obvious reason to use it in place of mapped locations in Windows Explorer. Looking ahead, we would like to see the firm match the feature set of cloud-based solutions such as SkyDrive by adding an option to sync user-defined folders to individual clients, allowing for access to files in offline scenarios. The My Cloud app for iPad, pictured above right, offers slick navigation along with the ability to upload or download content to-and-fro the server. WD has ensured there's no need for any unwanted complication - you won't be burdened with port forwarding or domain registrations - and each client can login from any online location using a username and password or activation code.
On the one hand, the unit has a dual-core processor and a Gigabit Ethernet jack, allowing for decent performance on a local network.
Performance is in keeping with a low-end NAS, yet there's sufficient speed for common tasks.
When accessing the server from outside of the home, the quality of the user experience relies entirely on two factors - the speed of your home broadband, and the speed of your mobile connection. The unit is quiet the majority of the time, though it can be heard when the hard disk steps in and out of standby.

If any company representatives for the products reviewed choose to respond, we'll publish their commentary here verbatim.
Synology have a brilliant backup piece of software, Netgears is not very good and D-Link is pretty poor too. For IT, we deliver a completely secure, controllable cloud environment that will connect to existing enterprise applications, like Documentum or SharePoint.  It’s been our unwavering goal to build an app that’s amazing to use, functionally and aesthetically strong and uncompromisingly secure. When you access employee blogs, even though they may contain the EMC logo and content regarding EMC products and services, employee blogs are independent of EMC and EMC does not control their content or operation.
They were a light in the darkness that most of us grabbed onto with gratitude – but are they really still the best option? A natural disaster such as a tornado, fire or flood will destroy any storage device stored nearby, while a thief is as likely to raid your drawers for external devices as they are to run away with your computer tower. Not to mention that you can set an online cloud storage to automatically back up your data, which means you will never need to rely on your memory to make sure your files are secured.
Cloud storage allows you to restrict a person’s access to the files you want to share, without having to delete everything else from your external hard drive before you hand it over. PST. This is obviously going to cause problems with customers in different time zones, or people who just prefer an automated cancellation process. Even when I had questioned them about this ridiculous requirement, they still insist that it can only be done at their preferred working time. I might need to firstly find other backup services and backup everything before contacting them again. It will be a hard decision, since both of those get quite bad reviews from some people… I am tending towards CrashPlan since they claim never to delete anything, whereas with Carbonite any files you delete from your PC will also be deleted from your backup within 30 days. Multimedia content is played back within the app - there's no cross-app access to files - and as expected, file support is dependent entirely on the client, meaning, in this case, the app will play formats natively supported by Apple. File transfers generally feel quick, and multimedia streaming to multiple clients is smooth and stutter-free. Gartner does not endorse any vendor, product or service depicted in its research publications, and does not advise technology users to select only those vendors with the highest ratings. In addition, a link to a blog does not mean that EMC endorses that blog or has responsibility for its content or use.
When online storage can keep your data more secure, safer from theft and disaster and accessible to those people you would like to share it with, is it time to move away from storage devices and embrace the cloud?
With online cloud storage, no disaster that befalls your home or office will affect your important documents, because they are encrypted and secured far, far from your location. Seems there is a promotion currently running for SpiderOak to get unlimited space with $149. But in the end, they offered me an early cancellation (with no refund of course) as long as I agreed to allow them to purge all my data immediately. Gartner research publications consist of the opinions of Gartner’s research organization and should not be construed as statements of fact. There is no button to cancel your membership, you have to actually manually contact support. There was no way I was going to capitulate and use their unreasonable and convoluted cancellation process (which is not mentioned in their TOS, by the way) so with 3 days to go, I deleted all my data myself (just to be sure) and then told them to go ahead and purge away.
