Celebrating the launch, Google also bumped up Gmail storage from seven and a half gigabytes to ten gigabytes of free space per user, the Gmail team announced in a blog post. The increase will take effect over the next 24 hours. However, as The Verge points out, with these new tiers Google has actually raised storage prices. When you upgrade to a paid account, your Gmail account storage will also expand to 25 GB of free storage space.
A web-based file viewer lets anyone easily browse shared files and open over thirty different file types, such as Photoshop images, Illustrator vector drawings and HD clips. Other features include the ability to add and reply to comments on any media (PDF, image, videotape, etc.) and get notified when other people comment on or wish to share documents with you. Though Google Drive appears to be an enterprise-focused service tied to the Google Apps offering, the company made sure to include a few consumer-centric features.
Will you use a Google Drive or does it look like yet another me-too crappy service from Google?
As for me, I’m not sure I feel comfortable knowing Google scans and indexes all the files uploaded to Google Drive.
The Moto G is available in both 8 & 16 GB storage models, however for some that just might not be enough. If this is the case then Motorola, part of Google since May of last year, are offering 50 GB of Google Drive cloud storage for 2 years. To redeem the free 50 GB offer you will need to have purchased a Moto G, activated the handset with a new or existing Google account (with or without SIM card installed) and be able to access the Internet through a data or Wi-Fi connection.
You can then simply launch the Drive app pre-installed on  the Moto G and the offer should appear.
Involved with both consumer electronics and software since the mid 2000s, keeping up to date with industry developments is as much a hobby as it is a job. Easy going but never afraid to share an opinion, Josh can often be found in his spare time listening to some heavy rock or at a local gig as well as playing with the latest gadgets and video games. Hi Alex, that’s very odd, the offer was available on a test phone we had at Clove and I have had a number of customers confirm it.
We all know that whenever Google wants to sweeten the deal a bit when selling a piece of hardware, the go-to deal that is always included is extra Google Drive storage, and the Motorola Moto X isn't immune to that treatment. Unless your storing your crap on your own server and actually have a working knowledge of network filtering and data encryption i doubt your going to put your data anywhere that the NSA cant get to it anyway. It just gets me that sometimes (not always) the people yelling hardest about privacy are social networkers. While Google Drive is every bit as capable as its rivals, it doesn’t really feel like Google has seriously thrown its hat into the ring of the cloud sync and storage fray. That’s not to say that Google Drive isn’t a stable, user-friendly and competitively priced cloud storage and desktop syncing app. In terms of free storage, off the bat and dollar per gigabyte pricing, Google Drive obviously wins. A good cloud sync desktop client is like a good pair of boxer briefs—it provides the support you need while allowing you to forget that it’s even there at all. One thing that Dropbox is a dreamboat at is making sure that file collisions don’t lead to lost data.
When it comes to storing all of your personal, professional, sensitive and secret documents, photos and files in the cloud, the question of privacy and security always arises.
Either way, if you are serious about protecting your data, then you should just encrypt your Dropbox folder or encrypt your Google Drive folder using BoxCryptor or TrueCrypt.

Storage service is commodity already, so this is a price war and google made a competitive offering. And now, Google has just beefed up its own cloud storage by launching the brand new Google Drive service, as rumored.
They quickly removed the original post, but not before Gerwin Sturm saved a copy and posted a translated version on his Google+ profile. Desktop apps detect whatever gets thrown inside the Google Drive folder on your machine and sync files with the cloud, mobile apps and the web version of Google Drive, also automatically syncing any changes made to the files inside the special folder.
The storage upgrade page is available here, providing a handy overview of your use of Drive, Gmail and Picasa storage. It also features image recognition and Google’s trademark search capabilities are deeply integrated into its bowels.
The company notes that this technology is still in its early stages, but they expect it to get better over time. You can attach photos from Drive to posts in Google+, and soon you’ll be able to attach stuff from Drive directly to emails in Gmail.
Note that Google is still offering paid upgrades for your cloud storage shared across Gmail, Picasa Web Albums and Docs. Currently, these paid tiers are available in 20 GB, 80 GB, 200 GB, 400 GB or 1 TB flavors, priced at $5, $20, $50, $100 or $256 per year, respectively. The cloud service allows users the ability to access vital information from a host of products from either home, work or on the go a€” utilizing easy drag-and-drop technology that makes being unable to send large files via email a thing of the past.
After installing your favourite apps, games and some media content, you might just find yourself coming close to the end of your available space. Google Drive synchronises using your Google account so you can access your stored files and content from any PC, smartphone or other device where you log in. If the offer does not appear then you might have already redeemed it on another eligible device.
Since finishing his studies he has remained at Clove in a full time position, involved in sales, returns and social media. Although the Moto X's DROID cousins are said to be accompanied by 6 months of free Google Play Music All Access, the Moto X buyers will be getting extra Google Drive space.According to Motorola, anyone who buys a new Moto X will get an extra 50GB of free storage on Google Drive for two years. Surprisingly, Google, in spite of pioneering cloud-based photo storage and office productivity, has been a latecomer to the game.
But if you can rack up the referrals, Dropbox’s free 18 GB trumps Google Drive’s 5 GB for free.
Dropbox would save both files, noting the date and computer that tried to save the conflicted file. You can view previous versions of a Google Drive file by pulling it up in the web interface and clicking File > Manage Revisions. The public folder lets you share files or photos with or without a Dropbox frontend, which allows you to hotlink files. You can share files publicly with a link, but they’ll be embedded in the Google Drive interface. Google Drive builds on that by allowing you to easily collaborate on locally edited files (such as Microsoft Office or Photoshop documents).
It integrates nicely into Safari, letting you zap downloaded files to your Dropbox (where it’ll be waiting for you on your computer next time you log on) and view a wide range of file formats natively.
There’s been raging debate and controversy over both Google and Dropbox, and it’s impossible to predict who is going to be the best steward of your personal information. It’s up to you to decide who you trust: Google and its “Don’t be evil” motto or Dropbox and its seemingly lower interest in harvesting your data (Dropbox, for example, does not have a massive ad network or a voracious search engine algorithm to feed with human sacrifices). There are certain people who use multiple such services to make use of those free space, so comparing these services is definitely not the right idea.

You get 5GB free (as in beer) storage, and paid users are supporting free (as in freedom) software.
Shortly thereafter, Google officially published the post as it formally launched Google Drive. Drive is also an open platform, so we’re working with many third-party developers so you can do things like send faxes, edit videos and create website mockups directly from Drive.
With 5 GB of free storage available, Google Drive works with Apple and PC as well as on Android devices. If you have multiple Google accounts on your handset then you will be asked which of these to apply the offer to. You can check your available Drive storage from the Settings menu within the app or online.
When you combine that with the 15GB you get for free, that's a solid 65GB of storage space in the cloud for your email, documents and photos.
Well, for a casual user like me, it is just as cheap to buy a TB drive, connect to a $30 raspberry pi web server and upload my photos.
That shouldn’t be surprising, since we here at groovyPost have said time and time again that Dropbox is our favorite.
But what makes Dropbox attractive for power users and Dropbox evangelists (like myself) are the referral bonuses. Dropbox and Google Drive are both pleasantly unobtrusive, with a setup that takes seconds to get up and running and a presence that requires practically zero user input. That’s great for editable Google Docs files, but less great for webpages and hotlinked downloadables.
Again, sharing folders in Google Drive is largely the same as sharing folders in Google Docs.
You can also playback music, upload multiple photos and share links right from the mobile app. To install these apps, visit the Chrome Web Store—and look out for even more useful apps in the future.
For those with more storage needs, up to 25 GB of space can be purchased for a $2.50 USD a month charge. I prefered the deal with the HP TouchPad of 50gigs of Box for free without a time limitation (least none that I am aware of). But it’s still worth taking a look at how Google Drive stacks up against the reigning champion of cloud storage. With the free account, you can get an additional 18 GB of free storage (500 MB per referral) and the bonuses get bigger with the Dropbox Pro accounts. That would be a major gamechanger—the ability to edit a .docx file online or locally in Microsoft Office. If you are Google Chrome user, you can even edit Google Docs offline (though this functionality is still a bit clunky).
I would definitely stick with Dropbox and would never look for any alternatives for my personal use. With Dropbox, you’ll know right away, because Dropbox will tell you that a “conflicted” file has been added. Syncblaze, though its a similar solution, we use it at work and its perfect for business users.
