Knox County residents line up to register for disaster food stamp aid from the Federal Emergency Management Agency at the Tennessee Department of Human Services Building on Middlebrook Pike on Thursday. Applicants who do not currently receive food stamps should have ID, proof of income and proof of out-of-pocket costs.
An estimated 1,000 people spent hours Thursday in a line that formed out the door of a Middlebrook Pike state office building and continued across a full parking lot for a chance to get disaster food stamp aid available because of this spring's area tornadoes.

Who may apply: To qualify, applicants must currently receive food stamps or meet income requirements and show they had out-of-pocket costs from the April storms. The release of the food stamps in the form of a one-time emergency money card began Monday.
