Heavily populated buildings such as schools, manufacturing facilities, office buildings and stores should and oftentimes are required to have an Emergency Preparedness Plan to be prepared for natural or man made disasters. The University has developed standard emergency evacuation signage for use in the University owned buildings.
What to look for in an emergency evacuation plan: A floor plan of the relevant area is shown with the emergency egress (exit) paths and emergency exit doors highlighted in green.

The posting of emergency evacuation plans and evacuation maps allow for greater building occupant safety.
A valuable component to any plan is the Emergency Evacuation Map that shows the location of safety equipment and exit routes. The top right-hand side explains the alarm tones in the building, the required response to alarm activation and general emergency response procedures when an alarm has not been activated.

In the bottom right hand corner a graphical display of the building's emergency assembly area is shown with reference to the surrounding area.
