These two facts, coming as they do on the heels of several recent natural disasters in the US (hurricane, flooding, fires, an earthquake) have meant that I’ve received several inquiries about what radios (and supplies) are best for emergency preparedness. For Preparedness Month 2015, the Office of Public Health Preparedness and Response plans to focus on communities of preparedness. The PrepareAthon is a nationwide, community-based campaign for action to increase emergency preparedness and resilience through hazard-specific drills, group discussions and national level exercises conducted each fall and spring. PG&E is sharing preparedness information with customers, especially for natural disasters that are more common to Northern and Central California, such as earthquakes, wildfires and winter storms. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) supports and promotes citizen education and grassroots preparedness efforts.
To ensure PG&E’s preparedness for catastrophic events, the utility routinely conducts exercises focused on strengthening its emergency response and coordination between employees, first responders and the communities it serves.
