Many people in Bear Lake Township are getting certified to help out in an emergency response situation. The Michigan State Police hosted the Emergency Response Training at the Bear Lake High School. About 25 volunteers decided that they wanted to join the Community Emergency Response Team program (CERT).
They trained in basic disaster skills like fire safety, search and rescue and disaster medical situations.
Once they are certified they will be able to assist others in their neighborhood if professional responders aren't available yet. EPP has developed independent emergency response training and emergency preparedness training modules available to our clients on an as-needed basis.

Organizing and running an efficient Emergency Operations Center is an acquired skill that normally takes a number of emergencies to hone.  This training module will flatten the learning curve for new “Storm Bosses,” seconds-in-command, or those who are on the emergency command succession plan.
Following a major disaster in the Napa Valley, first responders who provide emergency services will not always be able to meet the immediate demand for these services.
The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about the hazards that affect the Napa Valley and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, personal preparedness, and disaster medical operations. In the Napa Valley the CERT training is provided though the collaborative efforts various emergency agencies and coordinated by Napa County and is generally offered on a Friday evening and all-day Saturday and Sunday. Second Role Liaison personnel need advanced skill sets to fulfill their role as customer and community advocates in this very high pressure function.  EPP provides comprehensive training for first-timers in this role, and refresher courses for veterans of past emergencies who wish to become more effective advocates.
People who go through CERT training have a better understanding of the potential threats to their home, workplace and community and can take the right steps to lessen the effects of these hazards on themselves, their homes or workplace.

If a disaster happens that overwhelms local response capability, CERT members can apply the training learned in the classroom and during exercises to give critical support to their family, loved ones, neighbors or associates in their immediate area until help arrives. When help does arrive, CERTs provide useful information to responders and support their efforts, as directed, at the disaster site.
