The Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program is one of the best administered homeland security grants in the country. Applicants may submit up to three applications to this grant program, one to each grant program area.
Fire departments, nonaffiliated EMS, and state fire training academies can benefit from the 2013 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFG) that opened this month. After the deadline, a peer review committee of previous award recipients will evaluate the applications based on several criteria. The primary goal of the AFG program is to meet the firefighting and emergency response needs of fire departments and emergency medical service organizations.
The application deadline is December 6th and funding awards will begin rolling out in February 2014.


The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) recently announced that it will open the FY13 round of its Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) program on Monday, November 4, 2013 at 8 A.M.
Grants are available for equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training and other resources needed to protect the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards.
Cost sharing under FY13 round of AFG funding is based on the population protected by the grantee.
