Position the left hand timing chain tensioner arm on the dowel pin and install the left hand timing chain tensioner. Position the lower end of the right hand (outer) timing chain on the crankshaft sprocket, aligning the timing mark on the sprocket with the single copper (marked) link on the timing chain. Position the right hand timing chain tensioner arm on the dowel pin and install the right hand timing chain tensioner. If the engine front cover is not secured within four minutes, the sealant must be removed and the sealing area cleaned.
Make sure that the engine front cover gasket is in place on the engine front cover before installation. Apply a bead of silicone gasket and sealant along the cylinder head-to-cylinder block surface and the oil pan-to-cylinder block surface, at the locations shown. Install the engine front cover with engine front cover gasket on the front cover to cylinder block dowel and loosely install the bolts. Loosely install the front oil pan bolts, then tighten the bolts in the two steps, in the sequence shown. Rotate the crankshaft until both camshaft keyways are 90 degrees from the cam cover surface. At no time, when the timing chains are removed and the cylinder heads are installed may the crankshaft or the camshaft be rotated. Left-hand crankshaft sprocket with the tapered part of the sprocket facing away from the engine block. Using a small pick or similar tool, hold the ratchet lock mechanism away from the ratchet stem and slowly compress the tensioner plunger by rotating the vise handle. Once the tensioner plunger bottoms in the tensioner bore, continue to hold the ratchet lock mechanism and push down on the ratchet stem until flush with the tensioner face.
While holding the ratchet stem flush to the tensioner face, release the ratchet lock mechanism and install a paper clip or similar tool in the tensioner body to lock the tensioner in the collapsed position.
The paper clip must not be removed until the timing chain, tensioner, tensioner arm and timing chain guide are completely installed on the engine.
Place the left-hand and right-hand timing chain tensioners in position and install the retaining bolts.


Apply silicone gasket along the cylinder head-to-cylinder block and engine oil pan-to-cylinder block sealing surfaces. 4 front oil pan-to-engine front cover retaining bolts and tighten in sequence in 2 steps: Tighten the bolts to 15 ft. Install a paper clip into the hole in the tensioner housing to hold the ratchet assembly and plunger in during installation.
Rotate the left hand camshaft sprocket until the timing mark is approximately at the 12 o' clock position. Using Crankshaft Holding Tool 303-448 (T93P-6303-A), position the crankshaft, and then remove the tool.
