There are questions about whether they can dress themselves, how far ahead they can count and whether they are toilet trained. Something that (it may be unintentional) receives a negative vibe is if you answer that your child is not out of nappies yet…. There are so many emotions contained with a child starting in a nursery setting anyway, enhanced if your child has either been diagnosed or is commencing the route to a diagnosis of special needs, that I wanted to share mine and other experiences of potty training special needs children. It is worth pointing out that I had no idea that either of my children were autistic when they started at nursery.
Even now, D will get anxious about using a public toilet and will prefer to wait until we get home.
Autistic children respond better to visual prompts and a visual timetable can be beneficial (picture to follow). It can also be useful to take them into the (new to them) toilet setting, explaining with the aid of visuals the process and, if an elder sibling is willing, see someone else using the toilet. Sometimes I feel like a brand but I'm me, a commuting career woman in a previous "life", now a stay-at-home Mumma to two wonderful children, who just happen to have autism too.

Potty training can be tough, but it’s such a relief when a little girl can go to the bathroom all by herself. First, it’s important to establish that a child is physically, emotionally and mentally ready for this new challenge.
Even after successful daytime potty training has been established, accidents at night may frequently occur. There are several ways to approach potty training with rewards.  The key is to have your child feel a sense of pride and accomplishment for her hard work.
For example: at the end of the week, your child may get to select a toy from a “treasure chest” (a bin you have filled with new toys) or you may make a trip to the movies or you take her for a visit to her favorite park. If the reward is too big, then you child will be more focused on trying to get the reward and may get frustrated when she is unable to collect the reward as fast as she’d like. Charting out your son’s potty schedule before you start potty training can be especially helpful. Charting out your daughter’s potty schedule before you start potty training can be especially helpful. Note: that these training pants are not intended to function as a diaper or pull-up (absorbing multiple accidents while keeping the child dry) and hence, are not a replacement for them.

For more information on bed wetting, we recommend you reading some of our books on this topic. 2 Stars - It doesn't work well for my son. There weren't any good reviews to help me base my decision on, so I went with the larger size. Our return policy only states that the shipping back to our facility will be incurred by the customer.
We also recommend that you only try one of the pants on to see how they fit, so that the remainder can be exchanged. D’s lack of social skills and delays in speech and motor skills were picked up within the first half term, with a diagnosis within six months, T was diagnosed very recently at 10 and a half years. I now know it was the sensory overload of smells, puddles on the floor, unflushed toilets and the hand dryers that put them off.
Children develop at different stages, one child might be toilet-trained at 2, another might not be ready until nearly 4 or later. We didn’t do this and I wish we had because it would have been so much easier (and less mess)! I spotted this in comment luv and had to come straight over because I just don’t know how we are going to manage to get my nearly 4 yr old toilet trained, he has autism and hardly seems to have any awareness of it at the moment. Most children become capable of controlling their bladder and bowel movements between 18 and 24 months. Learning to use the toilet might take some time – weeks or months — and if a child senses frustration from a parent, they may feel pressure and reverse progress. Communicate the benefits of going to the bathroom like an older kid such as wearing panties to raise motivation. Both boys are heavy bed wetters, which the typical night time pull ups could not hold up to.
They are not as bulky as the night time training pants because they are made for daytime use.

A little bulky to wear - it wasn't an issue for us but may be to a child who is sensitive to that. 5 Stars - Great Pants!!
Can't return them, because it would cost more to exchange them: since I'd have to pay to ship them back and to have them re-shipped.
A child that is ready should be able to sit still for at least three minutes at a time and pull her pants up and down by herself.
I wish there is a way that I could get a refund becasue I now have 4 pair that is not good.
Not sure if the snaps that do not work well are because of how they are sewn in or just a bad batch. They are water resistant, so it takes a while longer for the pee to seep through, but they are not water-proof. They are certainly less messy than underwear, -just don't think you are getting the cloth equivalent of a pull-up. Our child is a very heavy sleeper and doesn't wake if she wets herself and is resistant to getting up in the night.
I took his pull up off and told him to throw it away, we have been using these undies for 5 days and I bought him angry bird undies as well. I am happy to have a reusable training paint and no longer need to buy disposable pants but so far no real progress on finishing up the night time potty training.
My daughter looks like baby Huey and she doesn't feel like it's a step up to big pants more of a step down to baby diapers.. And I probably won't use them in the winter because I imagine it would be annoying to have so much material stuffed in her pants.
Very absorbanr both day and night whenever she can't make it to her potty chair! 5 Stars - Works great!
My daughter loves them because they snap off easily when she wears them for nightime and naps.
Some people in other reviews complained about how long it took the pants to dry but I find they dry in the same amount of time as other cotton items like towels. We started out with only a couple of pairs of these and the other patty potty logo pullup training underwear.
