Get rid of junk.  Simply selling off old things you no longer want can be a great way to bring in a few extra dollars. Give a machine a break.  Amazon Turks is a way to earn a little bit of money doing things for which people are needed instead of machines. Consulting.  If you have in-depth industry experience, or specific skills for which there is real demand, you might be able to earn some money on the side doing some consulting.
Hold a garage or yard sale.  An old-fashioned method of selling unwanted items from around the house, this can still be useful today.
Draw.  If you have exceptional drawing skills, you could pick up a few gigs illustrating, drawing caricatures, or other such projects. Gardening.  If you like to garden, perhaps you can sell some of your output at a local farmer’s market?
Public speaking.  Companies and other organizations could pay reasonably well for people to come in and speak, either on very specific topics or for motivational purposes. Medical tests.  Care to be a part of medical tests that could help others?  Maybe there is some money in play for those who do. Create social media pages.  If someone wants a customized Twitter background, for example, they might be willing to pay for help. Create an app.  While revenue per download might not be sky-high, you never know what could happen if you develop something that meets a need in the market. House sit.  If someone is traveling for an extended period of time, there could naturally be some worry about making sure things are okay with the house. Sell your photos.  You might be able to sell existing photos, or take professional photos for specific purposes. Market research.  Participate in a market research study, and you might be able to obtain a decent stipend for a short amount of your time.
Sell crafts.  Many people love to make crafts.  Why not make some money on the side from it?
Recycle.  From scrap metal to electronics, and different points in between, there are things that we can recycle for money. Bake cookies and bread.  Who doesn’t like fresh, homemade cookies, bread, and other treats? Substitute teach.  While this might not yield big money, it can be a rewarding way to earn extra money. Print and place ads.  By this, I mean printing, distributing, and posting flyers for businesses that pay you. Model.  If you’re lucky enough to be able to do this, there is money (and maybe an ego boost) involved! Host product parties.  Get people together at your home, and sell kitchen or fashion wares.
Wash cars.  Not just external washes, but detailing car interiors can generate extra money. Web design.  With the explosion in the number of websites started by people globally, there is demand for those who are good at this. Handy work.  The ability to fix things and do handy work can also come in handy for earning extra money. Sponsored messaging.  This is an out of the box idea, but maybe you could sell ad space on your email signatures, voice mail greetings, etc. As can be seen, there are tons of ways that we can hustle for additional income.  With people seemingly getting busier and more interested in outsourcing different life tasks, there is plenty of opportunity for people to make extra side money!
Renting space, be it a room, a storage space, or a parking spot, is one of the easiest ways to bring in A LOT of extra income.
Stefanie – agreed, for those in a position to do so (no kids, etc) renting a room can be a big way to generate quite a bit of additional money. Download The Money Dominating ToolkitTM and join a community of 20,000 who are building wealth on their terms.
Knowing that, I thought it would be fun to put together a post that outlined 100 ways you can make $100 fast. Out of the 100, you should find at least a few that you can do any time you need extra cash. One of the best and easiest ways to make money fast is by selling what you have – or that you can acquire on the cheap.
Have a garage sale – We average about $150 per garage sale so you can earn some decent cash without even leaving your house.
Sell on Craigslist – What you can’t sell at your garage sale, you may be able to sell on Craigslist. You can often make some quick cash doing jobs that require no special skills, just a desire to do them.
Anything you have left that’s not clothes or books, start taking photos of them and posting them on Craiglist. Do you have an extra room, basement apartment or even family cottage that you can rent out?
During my post about how we paid off $24,000 of debt on a $54,000 salary in 2015, and then the one I wrote about our budget for 2016, I promised you an awesome post with tons of ways to save and make money that you haven’t heard of yet. I always get tons of reader questions about how exactly we did it: cutting our spending, finding the time to make more money, and even how to balance family and budgeting, so I came up with this list in hopes that it will help you save your budget, or answer your questions about our particular way of going about paying off that much debt. When the hubs and I did this, we started with a completely blank budget, and a mindset that we needed to challenge every single budget line. We started by challenging our insurance payment amount, and by doing so – with a single phone call! That single phone call was to our local credit union, the one that we bank with, to ask if we could speak with the insurance broker they worked with. We gave her our preferred coverage, as well as what we were paying already, and asked her to beat it. A few hours later, we got a call back, where Nicole laid out all of our choices, pricing, and coverage. We were able to move from our previous insurance provider to our current one, because we actually signed up for better coverage, a smaller deductible, and of course a smaller payment on both our home and auto insurance. Everything is negotiable, even mortgage, auto, and debt payments: you just have to know where to look. We got creative lowering our interest rates and payments, and hopefully our experience will help you too!
I didn’t realize this, but a quick google search told me that property taxes are not set in stone. In exchange for half of however much they lower your taxes, they will take whatever information you have and protest your taxes for you. We had a credit card we were struggling to get paid off because we felt like we were losing a battle with the interest each month. Luckily, because of our great credit, we were able to complete a balance transfer with our credit card, which got us 0% interest for 15 months. We had an ATV loan through a small, very uncooperative credit union at an unheard-of rate of 7.8%. When you look at each of those debts separately, they seem impossible to reduce the payments and interest rates.
We refinanced our home with a home equity loan at 3.25%, dropped our PMI, and added in the remaining balance on our ATV loan, as well as enough of our auto loan to reduce it to 125% of the value. But we use crazy amounts of data, so we were still paying $90+ for two lines with unlimited talk, text, and data. For a while, we stopped buying clothing, but once yard sale season rolled around, it was one! We hit yard sales nearly every weekend, picking up clothes for summer, winter, and beyond for pennies on the dollar. Rather, it was a concentrated effort to use up food in the pantry and freeze by any and all means, to free up space, waste less, and declutter. I cannot stress enough the value of keeping things simple when trying to save money on food. Sticking to staples and making things from home, rather than buying pre-processed foods, buying quality, not quantity, and eating produce in season, are all great, but for someone like me who tends to overthink everything, the choices can still be overwhelming.
So, by choosing to focus on one protein, or one vegetable per meal, I was able to slow down the process in my brain and focus on the task at hand: eating inexpensively. So far, this habit has racked up: a Little Tikes cozy Couple, a Power Wheels Convertible (worked perfectly) 2 kids table and chair sets, a tricycle, 2 strollers, and numerous other smaller toys.
However, we only leave out 3 toys at at time, which we believe helps our 2 year old focus, play better, use her imagination more, and increases her attention span. Now, before you start writing me a hate email about how unsafe this is, read this: all of our car seats were perfectly safe.
We were given a used crib, changing table, 2 dressers, toys, rugs, and even decorations for her room – and that was even before all 3 of our baby showers! Instead, I couponed for diapers before she was even born, stockpiling them in our basement. My best tip, when buying anything from organizing, to specialty foods, to home decor, and even some clothing and electronics is to always check Amazon first.
They consistently have lower prices than any brick and mortar store on many household goods, and they’re handy app allows you to take a picture of almost any item and Amazon will find it, along with a price for comparison.

Sure, if you’re committed to waiting until the last minute to shop, Black Friday will have some good deals in store for you. We typically compile a list of things that want and need during the Christmas season – our consumerism comes out – and then hold onto that list until after Christmas, when literally everything goes on clearance! Swagbucks rewards you for doing things you already do, like searching the internet, printing coupons, and watching videos.
You can actually use Qmee in conjunction with Bing Rewards, Swagbucks, and Screenwise Trends Panel – double dipping in rewards! Also a browser extension, Screenwise Trends Panel pays up to $2.00 for doing absolute nothing but installing the extension and using your computer like normal.
Plus, when you sign up for eBates through my link, eBates will give you a $10 bonus when you make your first purchase!
Have a few minutes while watching your favorite show and want to make some extra cash (0r breathing room in your budget)? Amazon Mechanical Turk allows you to perform “micro-tasks” and receive a paycheck for them!
I like Opinion Outpost because they pay more than pennies, and in my experience are one of the highest-paying survey sites out there. Pinecone doesn’t pay as much as some other sites, but they still do pay well, at $3 per survey, which they pay by check every single time. By challenging every single budget line, leaving no stone unturned, and of course, making extra money in just a few minutes a day, your budget can be completely saved. Or, if you’re saving for a financial milestone like paying off a loan or buying a house, making these changes to your budget can help you get there faster! When children reach 12 years old, they start to develop the desire to have their own money, but they are too young for legal employment with a company. At 12 years old, many children have developed the skills and sense of responsibility necessary to take on a variety of tasks. Depending on how much extra money your child is looking to make, there is always the popular lemonade stand to help generate an income. During the spring, summer and fall people spend a lot of money having their cars washed and waxed.
Children are drawn to learning how to cook their favorite treats such as brownies and cookies. Inbox Dollars – You can earn free cash by changing your search engine to InboxDollars. Sell on eBay – eBay is an excellent place to sell small, high value items, especially if they’re unique. Sell other people’s stuff on Craigslist or eBay – This is taking selling on Craigslist and eBay to a higher level. Flea markets and swap meets – This is the garages sale concept taken on the road to a place where there are a lot more potential customers. Consignment shops – There are different items you can sell on consignment, but it tends to work best for furniture and clothing.
Collect and sell scrap metal – If you have a light pick-up truck or just a good trailer, you can collect scrap metal from neighborhoods, building sites and junkyards, then sell it to scrap metal dealers.
Sell your stuff to a pawn shop – You won’t get retail price for your merchandise, but it offers a quick sale for cash.
Gold jewelry and silverware – Take your gold jewelry and silverware to gold dealers or jewelers and you’ll likely fetch a better price than going to the “we buy gold” storefronts populating strip malls. Musical instruments – There’s a brisk market for used musical instruments (check out the prices for brand new ones and you’ll immediately see why). Resell your moving boxes – You probably paid at about $200 on your last move if you have an average size home. Volunteer for overtime – Most of us shrink away from overtime because of the extra hours.
Contract for an ugly job at work – As an alternative to working overtime, you can offer to contract for jobs at work that nobody else wants.
Employee referral program – If your employer offers a bonus to refer new employees to them, take advantage of it and start referring. Customer referral program – Likewise, see if your employer might also have a customer referral program. Make a killer suggestion – Many employers have a suggestion box, but most employees ignore it. Pet sitting – The nice part of this type of sitting is that you don’t have to stay with the pet for hours.
Temporary part time jobs – You can get a seasonal part-time job based on summer, back-to-school, any of the major holidays or even during snow season. Become a referral source for a sales person or company – If you know any real estate agents, insurance agents, car dealers or just about any one who sells for a living, ask about being a compensated referral source for them.
Turn your photography skills to cash – If you’ve checked photographers prices lately you know they can be prohibitive. Become an instructor at a local gym – If you think that the only people who work in gyms are personal trainers, guess again. Write product review articles for blogs – If you’re a tech junkie and buy a lot of new products, you may be able to do paid reviews on blogs. Bartend for an event or a weekend – If you can bartend you can pick up a quick hundred (or more) working a couple of weekend parties or even a wedding. Join a focus group – Universities, marketing groups and research organizations will often pay participants in focus groups. Be a session musician – If you can play guitar, drums, keyboards and even some wind and string instruments’ you may be able to get work as a session musician in a band or orchestra.
Moving furniture – Some people are making local moves without the benefit of a professional moving company.
Cutting lawns – Even people who cut their own lawns get in a jam from time to time and need someone to pinch hit for them. Spring or fall clean-ups – Seasonal yard clean-ups are more involved than regular lawn cutting. Shoveling snow – I’ve known kids who have made well over $50 shoveling in the local neighborhood after just a modest snowfall. Cleaning houses – Some people let the house cleaning go a bit too long, then they don’t want to even attempt it. Can you turn that skill into a side hustle where you earn income working on extra work a few evenings and weekends?
My new rule is that I generally post things worth $20 or more, otherwise I give it to charity and get a tax credit for my donation. Dog walkers can make up to $25 for a 30-minute walk and it’s a great excuse for you to get outside.
If you love animals and could take care or a pet on the weekend check out sites like DogVacay. If you live in a city where they shoot a lot of movies or TV shows, consider connecting yourself to a background talent agency. The extension monitors your browsing history for advertising companies (nothing private is monitored or stored, don’t worry) and it can be installed on your phones, tablet, and computer to earn money.
There are many tasks a child can do to make extra money, and it is up to the parents to decide whether their child is capable of doing the task and to take responsibility if their child damages other people's property. Help your child make up promotional fliers announcing his lawn-mowing services, and then have him hand them out to your neighbors. A lemonade stand may not generate as much revenue as mowing lawns, but it can help your child gain an understanding of how to run a business and what is involved in managing money.
Teach your 12-year-old how to properly wash and wax a car, and then she can use the skill to earn money. There is a good chance that they have been modifying and repairing their own bicycles for many years, and now they can offer that as a paying service to people in the neighborhood.
Teach your child to bake her favorite cookie or brownie, and then allow her to either have a bake sale in the front lawn or package the treats and sell them door to door in the neighborhood. As long as you pay your balance in full each month, this is truly free money for the taking! If you turn in those points for cash, they are worth $500! Obviously, you’ll want to pay your balance in full to avoid interest.
They give you an estimate on your equipment, and the better stuff could fetch some real money. You’re not just selling your own stuff, you’re getting more stuff to sell from friends and neighbors. Peer-to-Peer lending has been great for people looking to borrow money to start a business or pay off high interest debt, but I have been doing extremely well with lending. Check out scrap metal prices, then do a Google search on “where can I sell scrap metal in (my town)”. You can sell them on Craigslist for top dollar, but if you want quick cash, offer to sell them to music stores. If they do, put on your salesman’s hat and start beating the bushes for potential customers. Usually, you’re just looking in on it every couple of hours, then walking it and feeding it as necessary.

If you’re good at photography, you might be able to photograph a special event or two for at least $100. If you know yoga, zumba, jazzercise, cycling or just about any other activity that keeps people moving, there may be a teaching position waiting for you at the gym. If you don’t mind (really) hard work, you may be able to pick up $100 or more this weekend. If you’re handy when it comes to painting, offer to do it for them for $100 per room – plus paint. It may involve weeding flower beds, trimming hedges, raking leaves and cleaning out other debris.
Just a couple of storms will get you to $100 just from knocking on doors during the late stages of the storm. I’ve been doing a bit of research and these are the options I would definitely consider.
I have two friends here that rent out their whole homes and stay elsewhere while their rental makes them anywhere from $200-300 a day!
I haven’t sold any yet – but since I have a blog FULL of curated photos and lots of photos of California, I thought it would at least be worth a try! It is helpful if the first few jobs are short baby-sitting tasks that are close to home so that the baby sitter's parents are readily available if something should go wrong.
While this meal that is anticipated for all year long can be filling and fun with our loved ones, it can also cost a bit of money if you will be hosting extra guests. I’m sure you can relate to this, but the holidays did quite the number on both my bank account and waistline. This will take a bit longer to get you to $100, but it’s still easy money by using their search engine, watching videos (seriously), printing coupons and a variety of other things. Pile up the bags of clothes and drive to a consignment or thrift store that buys gently used clothes, shoes and bags. It helps if you have your CPR and first-aid training up-to-date and have passed a criminal background check. NYC, Vancouver are also great places with a booming film industry. See if you can book work on the weekends or during the week if your schedule is flexible. It is also a good idea to not leave children who are too young with a 12-year-old baby sitter. The next basketball season I coached after doing my first referee gig, I was less tough on the refs. Plus, this card comes with no annual fee. Read here to learn more about the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card . Can you re-purpose any of your old furniture, paint it white and give it that modern vintage look? Newborns and infants up to the age of 2 are probably too young for a pre-teen to handle and care for, but children older than 2 should be fine.
I end up paying $30 for a ham when I could be getting a turkey for free using my stores’ free turkey with minimum purchase policy. So for all of us that need a little help paying off that Christmas debt, I’ve put together a list of some of favorite tips from the last few months. There are 12 of them, so you can either do all of them this month, or split them up (one a month)…. The simpler your menu is, the cheaper it will be and you will spend less time preparing as well.
They are a farm fresh, hormone-free meat company and have WAY better quality meat than any store in my area. We’re fans of both HealthyWage and DietBet, two sites that will allow you to place a wager and earn cash when you successfully lose weight.
And if you’re already in great shape, another great idea is to start a boot camp at your local park a couple of nights week. Start with just a few friends – these camps tend to grow pretty organically once people see a group of people working out. Buy enough for your family for BOTH holidays, because usually those same foods are NOT on sale come Christmas time! Share Your Info with Google There are a number of companies, including Google, that will pay you to install their app on your cell phone. Things like the above mentioned items are super simple to store in your pantry and won’t expire before Christmas. The apps collect data from your cell phone and help companies better understand web and mobile usage better — such as what times of day people browse, how long they stay on websites and use apps, and what types of sites and apps are popular (or not). This way, you will only be responsible for the main course and everyone gets to have their favorites without having to make sure special requests get filled.Check to see what you already have on handYou may already have some of the ingredients in your own pantry such as chicken broth, string beans, and baking supplies.
See what you already have before you go to the store and buy duplicates.Make dishes with foods that are in-seasonThis is usually done anyway as squash and pumpkin are in season during this time, but swap out some other ingredients for ones that are at their best price such as broccoli, cauliflower, and mushrooms.Use couponsBoth manufacturers and stores start pumping out loads of coupons this time of year for baking supplies, produce, frozen foods, and even turkey!
Even if you aren’t an avid couponer, you can easily use $15 worth of coupons for your meal getting the cost out of pocket much lower.Have a plan for leftoversMany people end up throwing away so much after the holiday meal is over and their guests have taken home what they want. After you’ve installed it for 1 week, you get to play an instant rewards game for a prize (everyone wins something). Make a list of dishes that you can make with holiday leftovers so you are not wasting money in the trash. I won a $25 gift card to Amazon, but some of the other prizes include iPads & Samsung TVs.
Open a 2nd Bank Account The folks over at Nationwide will give you $200 just to open a checking account.
Likewise, if you have way too much food leftover, think of ways you can freeze those same foods for Christmas. Things like rolls and mashed potatoes are really easy to freeze.Cook only as much as you can reasonably eatAnother way to save money is to plan to not have any leftovers at all. If you only buy what you need for the meal, you won’t waste much at all, if anything.Shop the day after Thanksgiving for Christmas dinnerMost of the holiday food we love goes on sale right after Thanksgiving. Their interest rate is 3x higher than what most banks will give you, plus you can use any ATM in the world for free (6x a month). You’ll need to deposit $50 to get started and use the offer code 03110470 (you can withdraw your fifty bucks later) To get the $200 bonus, you’ll need to set up an automatic monthly direct deposit of at least $200 into your E-Checking account. Your monthly direct deposit of $200 must be received within 60 days of opening the account.
The $200 bonus will be deposited into your new account within 2 weeks following the 90 day minimum requirement!
