I’m a classic over-thinker, so when it comes time to make a big decision, I often freeze. Instead of making a hasty decision in the heat of my disinterest, I took an eight-month break. What this period of time taught me is that there is absolutely nothing wrong with pausing and taking a break. Want exclusive content NOT featured on the blog delivered straight to your inbox twice a month? I live by the saying, “Life begins at the end of your comfort zone" and help others get gutsy to reach their goals to live a life that makes them truly happy. Everyone loves handmade books--and these adorable mini volumes are generally easier to craft than their larger counterparts! Pretty much what the title says - the projects in this book are for books that are a few inches across down to earring-sized books.
After reading this, I realize I'm not particularly interested in making mini-books - they're a little too precious for me.
Excellent illustrations and instructions for constructing your own small books using specialty papers and fabrics.Highly recommended! You've got an idea you want to put into action - an idea for a business, a mission to become famous, or a vision of making a living doing something you love. There's nothing wrong with having big ideas - a million dollar business, a best-selling book, a national movement, or simply making a full-time living from something you love.
Sure, you can go 'big bang' on your idea; go hell for leather and enlist all the people you need, write a business plan and go search for funding. You don't have to give up on your grand vision of a big business, national fame, or the most common desire - finding a way of making a full time income from something you love doing. Design a 30 day 'Play Project' that immerses you in making your idea happen (or at least some part of it). Since you're not trying to create your whole vision yet but just a part of it, choose the project to be centred on the bit that's most exciting to you. Make sure the project produces something you can share - some tangible result, not just 30 days of sitting and googling! Set a deadline in 30 days' time to share your result with others - show it to your friends, put it on your blog, tweet or facebook it. If you want to launch a national campaign or change the world, create a Facebook group for your cause and then create an event that people can take part in to build a buzz. If you can't see how you can scale your big idea down, describe your idea in a comment and I'll see if I can come up with a 30 day project to get you started.
I have a dream… of getting together like minded people in order to restore and rebalance the energies on Ibiza, give back to mother earth after all the hedonistic partying here and raise the awareness of alternaive therapies, healthy eating sound healing and uplifting speakers as a lifestyle choice!
All this was possible not just because of a dream but because a team of us joined forces to share the immeasurable task and work in collaboration. The problem is I don’t know how I’m supposed to help, so my mind jumps from one good promotional idea to the next (ideas which are usually credible), but which I fail to follow through because it involves self-promotion, which is my weakest link!!
Anyway, I’m going to do what you suggest and start using action over thinking mode, and see if that makes a difference.
Having been self employed for over 5 years I would like to continue with a flying business that pays the bills for my family but enables me to fly all different types of aircraft all over the world.
Am doing the studying for the exams and writing a blog about it but need to make an income from it asap and now is a really good time to do it. My big idea that I am struggling to scale or know where to start is about using adventure sports to save the world. Any suggestions how to scale my idea down so I can stop dreaming, and start saving the world, one adventure at a time?
I want to change the world – create more peace by showing everybody how similar we are as humans even though we have cultural, gender, political etc. Below is a sampling of card ideas you'll find on this site but feel free to poke your nose into the pages and pages of the site to see more handmade card ideas. By engaging in candid dialogue with one another, we locate common ground on which to forge a better path forward for our Golden State.
You activate our collaborative brand of environmental problem-solving across diverse industries, and we are so grateful for your part in taking care of the special place we call home. Your support of our Making Big Ideas Work Campaign drives conservation progress rooted in trust and respect. Farmland recharge was seen as a crazy idea just five years ago, when Fresno County farmer Don Cameron diverted peak flood flows onto 1,000 acres of active cropland. Your support also conserves California’s groundwater by helping us introduce farmers to water efficiency measurement practices that allow them to avoid over-pumping while growing our food under arid conditions.
In fact, our work with berry and lettuce growers in the Salinas area has shown 30% more efficient use of water as a result of our collective efforts. Multiply this by the 1.6 million dairy cows concentrated in the San Joaquin Valley and you have a mountain of a manure problem! Dairy producers put the nutrient-rich waste product to beneficial use by fertilizing the crops they grow to feed their cows. Some endangered species of fish now number in the hundreds because they cannot access upstream spawning grounds due to many man-made barriers blocking their way. And, unfortunately, landowners who want to remove fish passage barriers or plant vegetation along streams to improve water quality – for example – face not encouragement but roadblocks and expense. With your help, we’re removing permitting barriers to unleash habitat-boosting projects across the state.
By securing simplified permits with all state and federal agencies with jurisdiction over restoration, land managers will be able to implement voluntary restoration work in a matter of months rather than years. Keeping invasive plants out of our landscapes is critical to preserving California’s unique biodiversity, and you have helped us recruit the plant industry to be part of the solution!
Working with plant scientists, breeders, and distributors to prevent problem plants from being introduced in the first place helps both the environment and the bottom line. Your support enables us to promote national adoption of PRE – aiming to protect our Golden State’s unique array of plants and animals, as well as habitat throughout the U.S. Sustainable Conservation helps California thrive by uniting people to solve the toughest challenges facing our land, air, and water. Every once in awhile, when inspiration struck, I’d pop in with a post or two, but for the most part, my website collected dust and went quiet. While many of the projects exceeded my personal acceptable fiddliness level, there were a couple (such as the matchbook-style notebooks) that seemed as if they'd make great gifts.
Some of the projects are cute, but there aren't enough instructions for me to do most of them.
Then you have just got to start doing something different. There are far too many people who have good ideas fading away somewhere at the back at their mind (while someone else has the same idea and goes and makes a success of it). It's a useful skill to be able to take an idea and envision exactly how huge it could become. You can start small, test it out, improve it, then grow it and scale it towards your original vision. It means being willing to play it out one step at a time - even if you don't know exactly where it will take you and you can't yet see how it can make you a full-time income. If you want to be a public speaker, go speak, don't spend the first 30 days building a website for your future speaking career. If it didn't work out the way you'd hoped, adjust your approach to give you more of the results you want and launch your next Play Project. Go to Toastmasters, learn some of the basics and set a deadline to give your first talk of 5-10 minutes at one of the meetings. It was such an outstanding success that we are repeating it again this year… not once but twice – May 1st and Oct 9th, maybe you would like to join us as a speaker? Thus I’m not sure what to do next and end up planning and computing ideas that become redundant, because there’s nowhere for them to go!
Please enlighten me on how to keep my mind in check and focus on the beginning and not only on the BIG idea and big dreams I have. You can come up with homemade cards and be inspired by sketches, books and the world wide web. I'll help you with Christmas card ideas, and give you inspiration for making birthday cards. The colors I went with are green and black so I chose different patter paper but kept with the same green color.
You'll find designs for graduation greeting cards, handmade wedding cards and Mothers Day cards.
The forces that disrupt higher education aren’t going to have pretty quads and columned buildings! But you only get to talk about them after you’ve thought about what your audience really wants to hear about in their lives.

Many times, being an innovative leader means innovating processes to allow innovation to happen. They get weighed down by poor planning, sketchy research, dueling egos, or sloppy execution. Through a technique we’ve been pioneering – along with farmers, irrigation districts, and researchers – we’re aiming to store water from wet seasons for dry times to come.
Over winter and spring, he captured about three feet of water on his land and allowed it to percolate down to the aquifer below. Along with our partners – UC Davis and the Almond Board of California – many farmers want to demonstrate and evaluate this promising strategy to recharge our depleted groundwater. When not managed properly, however, the nitrates in manure can leach into groundwater and pollute a primary source of drinking water for millions of Californians.
93% of dairies hydrate their feed crops through flood irrigation, an inefficient technique that can also impair groundwater quality. In a large concrete box at Hilmar’s Fanelli Dairy, tiny red worms filter manure lagoon water into a high-value fertilizer – worm castings – and water clean enough for safe use in irrigating crops. We now have agreements from The Home Depot, Lowe’s, and Orchard Supply Hardware to not sell invasive plants from PlantRight’s dynamic list in their California stores.
That’s why we developed the peer-reviewed, scientifically proven decision support tool – PRE (Plant Risk Evaluation) – that predicts invasive behavior risk in any given region. But as time went by and my interests changed, I realized I was no longer passionate about the direction of the blog and needed to make a change. I think it’s better to make an actual decision, no matter how you get there, and commit 110%. This charming collection includes beautiful leather-clad journals, block print notepads, accordion-fold mini-zines, and others that feature interior pockets, unique closures, colorful stitching, and eye-catching bindings. A lot of the bindings presented are kind of intricate, and this book doesn't list step-by-step instructions for them. Also, a lot of the projects incorporate the use of leather, but I guess you could substitute with pleather or vinyl.
If that's a style of operating that's worked for you successfully in the past, and you're comfortable with the risk involved, it may be right for you.
Each one can build on the results of the last and at the end of every one, you'll have something real to show for it - the kind of stuff that opens doors to even bigger opportunities. If it's more interactive than that, see if there's a commercial system you can use to test the idea out. Ask some supportive friends to help, or attend events like Scanners Night to meet other people making ideas happen. I’m also still trying to find time to enroll in a clothes making lesson as my schedule is pretty packed. Printing from my laser printer to create the sentiment allows me to personalize the cards.
I hate wasting scrapbook paper so I always try to come up with ideas to use up those little pieces of paper I just can't seem to throw away.
I know, this might me a stretch but in a small way, if you recycle greeting cards that you receive, it can help the environment. Personalized cards tell people you appreciate them and shows you have put in the time and effort.
For someone who usually hangs back, it put me right in the heart of great presentations on social networking, disruption (particular of higher education), innovation, and incredible stories of the triumph of the human spirit. ThinkSpring Marketing gives rise to great ideas by grounding them in sound strategy and structure. The number of farmers ready and willing to try this innovation continues to multiply, and you are enabling them to test the most hopeful new solution in years.
In response, Sustainable Conservation partnered with Netafim, an irrigation equipment manufacturing company, and De Jager Farms in Chowchilla to pilot a liquid manure drip irrigation system that boasts triple benefits for farmers and local communities: improved water efficiency, reduced nitrate leaching, and increased crop yields. With dairy farmer Vic Fanelli, we have conducted the first pilot of the BioFiltro worm composting box at a U.S. And, because 70% of plants in gardens come from the “big box” outlets, leadership by these franchises makes a huge impact. Ultimately, you make the final call, but talking with others often allows you to see all sides of a decision from a fresh perspective. Another path I like to take is research the hell out of all of my options; I want to know them forward, backwards, inside and out.
Returned to the library and probably won't buy, but it was a cool book to spend an afternoon browsing through. If you're selling your own services, aim to get your first piece of work within 30 days, even if it's at a reduced fee for a friend or colleague. Then before you know it you have a real tangible thing and all you traded was some hours you would have stared at the TV or sat in the pub.
I'll share my card making ideas so you can make your own invitations like baby shower invitations, thank you and other cards along with step-by-step instructions.
If an average cost of a greeting card is $2 - $4, then thata€™s $60-$120 a year (or if youa€™re like me and love shoes, that's about 2-3 pairs).
Everybody is getting on the a€?greena€? bandwagon and even recycling just one greeting card and in turn, making trash to treasure, will help in making the world a greener planet. If someone is waiting for your decision, let them know that you need time to think about it. Like I mentioned before, you won’t always have the gift of time on your side when making a decision, but I recommend taking at least 24 hours to reflect. She analyzes data and trends, and challenges conventional thinking in her quest for ah-ha insights. Also remember, reflection looks different for everyone; for some it may be going for a run and for others it may be taking a nap or writing out a list of pros and cons.
Then she spins those insights into spring-loaded marketing and brand strategies that deliver the highest ROI.
