3 hot and humid miles with Tuck (practicing all his obedience training) and two of my 3 kiddos, who were on bikes ahead of us. It can often be a huge challenge to get kids motivated to do their choresa€”and nearly impossible to get them enthusiastic about their household duties.
In our house, wea€™ve tried lots of different ways of motivating our kids, but one of the most successful is the regular use of a chore chart, which not only provides motivation, but also helps us teach financial responsibility.
We have already found that teaching kids about chores, money, and work is definitely a lifelong process. One way to get started is to be sure the chores on your chart are easily understood by your kids and that each chore is tailored to their age level and your household expectations.
I recently heard about one mom who startedA a Pinterest board with her daughter where they share household tips and advice from around the Internet.
A young child may be much more excited about cute pictures, cartoons and images than words on a chore chart.
To make it even easierA for you, we have put together a few different printable chore chart options for you to use. Charts need to be posted or stored where theya€™re easy to see and can be accessed by everyone (in case someone needs a little reminder). Having a Family Command Center, either in the office or in your kitchen can be a great way to make things accessible (and keep them pretty).
Even if you chose not to reward your children with money, they may need to complete tasks around the house to earn privileges, such as a playdate, a movie or another reward. Some parents post dollar amounts right on the chore chart or attach envelopes to move money whenever a task is done. I’m in the first stages of using an app and web based chore list that follows same steps but without the paper. 4.  I weeded (a fancy word for “peeled all the letters”) the contact paper and then transferred it to my sign with some transfer tape.
I took a sander to it to give it a worn and distressed look.  I wanted it to look like a vintage laundry sign that you might see in a laundromat. This is an example of a widgeted area that you can place text to describe a particular product or service. Walt Disney Animation has been on a streak of non-stop hits over the past few years with titles like Tangled, Wreck-it-Ralph, Frozen, and Big Hero 6. A few weeks ago, I was invited with a group of other journalists to go and see the ins-and-outs of how Zootopia has been put together so far, from creating the different environments in the film’s title city, to how they managed to make all of the individual strands of fur on their animals stand out and act like it would normally. Much like how The Good Dinosaur envisions a world where dinosaurs never went extinct, Zootopia envisions a world comprised of only mammals, including bunnies, foxes, mice, elephants, and so on. The film follows an ambitious young bunny named Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin), who moves from her hometown of the Bunny Burrows to the big city metropolis that is Zootopia, hoping to become the first female, bunny officer in the city’s police force.
From the beginning too, Howard and Moore were intent upon delivering in their promise to Lasseter, looking to create a movie about talking animals that was so rich in detail, it would make even the most skeptical fans fall in love with it.
When they say that they researched every single strand of fur on each creature too, they’re not exaggerating, as the team researched the strands of fur on their animals to a microscopic level, and then animating millions of strands for each character. Once the animators had completed work on their characters though, they then had to shape a believable world around each of the citizens of Zootopia as well, making the city feel like an actual metropolis for mammals. It’s through this kind of detail and history that Zootopia begins to gain a lot of its appeal too, promising a world even more detailed than San Fransokyo in Big Hero 6, and fully realized in a way that few other movies are nowadays, both in live action or animated form.
However, the filmmakers quickly realized that Zootopia would have to accommodate more than one kind of animal species too, which led to the overall structure of the city itself.

Basically, the city of Zootopia is separated into a number of different districts with four of the most well-represented being Tundratown, Sahara Square, the Rainforest District, and Bunny Burrows. Each district is suited for the different kinds of animal species in the city though, with Tundratown being a place for the colder weather animals to live, and comes with a regular 3:00 PM blizzard every day in order to keep its temperature. The Rainforest District is the most urban region of the city, with near constant rain and that dim yellow-y light you only really see on city street corners at night, which provides a stark contrast to the country life shown in Bunny Burrows, and provides Zootopia with the opportunity to showcase every form of a city, from the high-class main streets, to the lowly, run down neighborhoods. It was through each of these decisions that Zootopia began to truly take form as well, evolving from a simple, talking-animals film to one of the most ambitious outings in the studio’s history.
This is only the first part in our continuing press coverage for Zootopia as well, so make sure to keep checking back for more news and updates regarding the behind-the-scenes stories from Disney Animation’s latest passion project.

This is one of the most important things that we teach at the Mom Biz Retreat, and it’s one of the most basic, but it certainly delivers and resonates with most of our attendees.
One of the best ways to make more money is to go through your current client base and ask yourself what each person last bought from you. My passion is helping entrepreneurs create and run businesses that honor their priorities and values.
Being intentional about how I use my time is so important if I expect to make consistent income. A But the truth is that as parents, it is an essential part of our job to teach kids how to helpA out around the house and to learn how to become productive members of society. Children as young as two can carry out simple chores like collecting the bathroom garbage cans or helping to pick up toys. Younger children may not know how to clean a spotless bathroom mirror or how to make their bed all on their own.
She said she knew it was a success when her daughter pinned some tips on keeping the shower door spotless.
Before the days of stainless steel kitchens, that place was often the refrigerator door, but lots of other locations would work too, such as a bulletin board hung in the hallway, kitchen, or even right in your child’s bedroom.
If you choose to review the charts daily (my recommendation), youa€™ll want to set aside a special timea€”maybe right after dinner or before teeth brushing and prayers at nighta€”to review the accomplishments of the day. As part of the family, children are expected to chip in, help out and do things around the house. One mom I know actually hides her childa€™s rewardA on Saturday mornings in the room that the child is assigned to dust. Even teens (who are a€?too coola€? to be motivated by a sticker on a chore chart) will be very motivated when they can see a clear incentive or end goal. If you feel that your chore chart is getting boring or your kids are growing out of it, try something new! Our newsletter offers a weekly dose of inspiration & encouragement, and many of our readers tell us it is the highlight of their week! My kids have chores that they are required to do each day, just to help out around the house. It is relevant and important to learn responsibility at all ages, especially when teaching them life skills. The studio took the year off in 2015 though, and have been hard at work to bring audiences not only one of their most interesting films of the past few years, but also one of their most ambitious visually in 2016′s Zootopia. The film is a return-to-form in a lot of ways for the studio too, as it takes place in a world filled with talking animals, in a way you’ve never seen before. After being treated to some exclusive footage from the film though, directors Bryon Howard (Tangled, Bolt), Rich Moore (Wreck-it-Ralph), and producer Clark Spencer (Lilo and Stitch, Winnie the Pooh) came out to explain to the audience where the idea of Zootopia came from initially.
Unfortunately for Judy, the world doesn’t quite believe in her as much as she does, and is stuck with meter duty, and pushed to the sidelines.
Through their investigation together, Judy and Nick run across a wide range of other characters, some dangerous and some not, as she races against the clock to make her one shot count. To do this, the creative and design teams of the film scaled each of the individual buildings to the size of each of their creatures in the film, from the tallest Giraffe to the smallest mouse, in the hopes of making the city feel more believable and real in terms of size and scale.
Thanks to the ingenuity of the creative team and the writers too, they were able to develop different ways for the various types of animal species to travel and commute throughout the city in ways that best fit their characteristics and traits, like the Rodent Subway pictured above, which is placed underneath every street and crosswalk. The decision to separate the city like this was influenced a lot by how many of the boroughs in New York City are constructed and border each other too, and how other iconic locations like Paris, London, and Las Vegas are often separated by their different sections and sub-sections.
While Sahara Square is very much the night life, Vegas-esque district of the city that borders Tundratown, as the two districts are separated by a towering wall equipped with built in heaters and cold air distributors.

Rich in detail and filled with the charged energy that can only come from the pure passion of its filmmakers, Zootopia is aiming to venture into entirely new territory for Disney, while also being a loving calling card to some of their most iconic past titles. He dreams of meeting a girl with a yellow umbrella, and spends too much time* staring at a movie screen. If you feel, like so many of us do, that you’re constantly running out of time, use a Time Map to own your time and how you spend it. Then you can plan according to your prioritized list in order to make sure you’re spending the time you have in the most effective ways. By brainstorming on your client’s needs in the past, you’ll be able to get a good idea about what they may need in the future. I find I need to adjust my own Time Map every quarter, since the change of seasons affects my kids’ schedules, and therefore, my schedule. A Not only does it make our family life run smoother, it is essential to their own development and self-esteem. This not only teaches them about the value of work, but that money can be fun and also used to help others.
A teenager might be a much more involved helper, perhaps doing yard work, laundry, and many additional household tasks to prepare for life on their own. Suddenly she realized she had an enthusiastic helper because she had allowed her daughter to take ownership and feel like she was part of the process. Find what works best for your children.A A quick search on Pinterest will reveal more ideas than you know what to do with! A Or, if hanging is not an option at all, the popsicle stick chore option makes a great alternative and takes only a few inches of shelf space! It doesna€™t need to be a big production, but simple love, praise and acknowledgement can be enough to keep the ball rolling. Other parents see a reward system as a powerful tool to motivate kids and teach lessons about earning. Remember, yourA objectives are not only to get your kids enthusiastic about helping around the house, but to understand that money comes from work, and to find happiness and satisfaction in a job well done! We will have posters for each of the following categories: personal, daily, weekly, monthly, seasonally and as necessary. I am trying to find a program or website where I can create my own chore chart and consequence list. Much like all of Disney Animation and Pixar’s films too, the project came after Howard had completed work on Tangled, and felt a simple desire to make a film about talking animals that would be reminiscent of some of the iconic Disney classics like Robin Hood, Bambi, Dumbo, The Lion King, and more. It’s during one work day in particular though, when Judy runs across Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman), a swindling fox looking to make money any way he can, from anyone he can. After all, it wouldn’t make much sense if a building was the same size to a fox as it was to an elephant right? When you use a Time Map, you’re almost guaranteed to find the time you need to do the things you need to do. However, if you can figure out why you’ve stopped using your Time Map, it might shed some light on some shift of priorities, or schedules, or a change in direction that happens every so often.
A As it turns out, kids WANT to help and derive great satisfaction from seeing a task through. A teenager might not fully understand why they have to separate out reds and blacks from the whites. Whatever your view, you can still make chore charts work, and in fact, you may find that ita€™s a valuable tool that you NEED. We’ll use sticky notes to fill in those categories, ie brush teeth is a personal task.
However, I did have a question… the picture above that had the cash cards with the cash pinned behind them, what were the little cards below with the numbers circled and the tally marks?
No matter how hard we work or how disciplined we are in our strategies, there will never be enough time to do it all. If you take the time to really think about the people who need the service or product you can provide, you will identify your ideal client. More so than other entrepreneurs, when you put the word “mom” in front of your title, it makes it tricky to manage and priorities your life accordingly. You arena€™t going to end up with a spotless house while you put your feet up and read a magazine.
I’ve always made a point of letting them know that we are all part of this family and as such, we are all expected to pitch in.
