Houston Grand Opera will present Puccini’s “Tosca” May 27 at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion. The Houston Symphony and Houston Grand Opera will bring quite a bit of culture to The Woodlands in the coming week at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion.
Andres Orozco-Estrada will conduct the Houston Symphony in its performance of “Symphonie fanstastique” Friday. The performance will be comprised of “Escaramuza” for strings, percussion, harp and piano by Gabriela Lena Frank, Edvard Grieg’s “Piano Concert” with soloist Gabriela Montero and “Symphonie fantastique” by Hector Berlioz.
Klepac said the music is an abstract piece of “symphonic art” that was “unprecedented” when it was first composed by Berlioz. Houston Grand Opera will present the full production of “Tosca” with English subtitles from 8 p.m.


The opera premiered in 1900, according to HGO Director of Communications Judith Kurnick, and has been performed in venues across the globe ever since. Klepac encouraged those interested in learning more about opera to attend The Pavilion’s Lunch and Learn from noon to 1 p.m. Kurnick said there’s much joy in presenting a “well-known, well-loved” opera like Tosca in a way that satisfies veteran opera-goers who may have seen it several times.
