An 'L' shaped hill with a steep top part and a flat bottom. The upper part would only be a low black diamond or tough blue square in good conditions, but this pitch likes to be icy. Add to that choppy moguls and you have a sudden edging test. Better grooming in recent years has tamed it somewhat, but a column of moguls are usually left on steeper skier's right. Kodiak is often used by FAST (Fernie Alpine Ski Team) for practice and races.
A cat track which starts a the top left of Lower Bear provides access to the wide gentle lower section for low end skiers and is probably the easiest path for them to the bottom of the Boomerang Chair
FAST Skiers line up for race down Kodiak.
