Message: I will kick us off with this photo that I took on Tom Piccirillo's Somerset Traction layout. Message: These next two photos are tunnels in the famous Carrizo Gorge section of the San Diego & Arizona RR.
Message: Here are two portals in place on my L&R, one for vehicle traffic, and the other for the Railroad line. Message: Here is a shot of abandoned ROW and a partially caved in portal on the Mt Hood RR.


Message: Although it is not exactly a tunnel portal, I thought this oeuvre d'art by Troels Kirk depicting the entry of a snow shed on my Sn3 layout would qualify to this gallery. Message: Thanks for the contributions and comments,all!August has arrived, so I am opening another two-week long gallery. The wrecked ore cars discarded near the portal tell the story of a dangerous ride to and from the mine. The tunnel is timber-lined, and the portals were partially covered with sheet metal several years ago.


It is located on the BNSF Railway mainline between Seattle and the Midwest, and is also used by Amtrak's Empire Builder passenger train.
The engine is Ten Wheeler #40:And here's the west end, with #93, a 2-8-0:If you ever get a chance to visit the Nevada Northern in Ely, NV I highly recommend it!
