Signature Cycles has knocked another one out of the park with this lugged track bike built by Kelly Bedford. Bedford High School track program doesn’t stop for snow and ice.  Sandwiched between the Fall Cross Country and the Spring Track and Field programs, is the popular Winter Indoor Track program.
Meets are a cacophony of activity as hurdles and sprints take place, end to end, inside the oval track, and shot put, high jump and the long jump are squeezed in around the perimeter of the interior track.  Girls and boys races – 200M to two mile, with the highlight events 4 X 200 and 4 X 400 relays, are run on the official track. Bedford High School Track and Field, under the direction of Coach Joe Pike, has had a very successful run the past few years and has grown into a popular program at the high school.  Winter track is attractive to athletes not just preparing for the exciting spring track season, but also to those athletes that want to get in shape for other spring sports such as lacrosse, softball or baseball. For the girls, Danae Bucci had an outstanding night taking second place in the high jump and leading in the hurdles races. Saturday, March 19 Annual Spring Egg Hunt Sponsored by the Bedford Family Connection BHS Musical 2016 A classic, begins at 7:30 pm Stacy and the Party at the Java Room A fundraiser for St. Each Thursday we will post an article listing the events that are coming up in the next ten days, and list those events in Sunday’s weekly summary. Dominique McBryde won three times for the girls while Micah Wagner prevailed in two individual races and won a third blue ribbon on a relay. GALENA – Bedford North Lawrence finished sixth in the 10-team Floyd Central Invitational on Friday night. BNL seniors Summer Baumgart, Abigail Gentry, Abby Brim and Noelle Crane lead the Stars through the start of their workout routine. Bedford North Lawrence’s track team, with head coach Amy Spence going through the checklist, has all the key ingredients, all the quality characteristics, all the right parts for a quality campaign. The Stars graduated state qualifier Whitley Brock (long jump) and sectional champion Bret Roberts (pole vault), but they have depth. With senior Dominique McBryde (long jump and 200-meter dash) and sophomore Halle Hughes (high jump), BNL has potential state-meet qualifiers.
Other notable performers included Dominique McBryde (basketball and track), Kaci Ikerd (soccer and softball), Whitley Brock (soccer and track), Lauren Mitchell (soccer and tennis), Alli Guthrie (soccer and cross country) and Mollie Bond (swimming and tennis). BNL’s Whitley Brock will compete in the long jump during the IHSAA state finals on Friday at Indiana University. Bedford North Lawrence’s Whitley Brock, in her salutatorian speech on graduation night, inspired her classmates to “rise to the climax.” Now her own words will serve as her motivation in the Indiana High School Athletic Association girls track state finals on Friday afternoon.

Brock, BNL’s first state finalist in two years, extended her high school career by one week when she qualified for the state meet at Indiana University in the long jump. Brock is seeded 22nd in the meet after flying 17-0, shattering her previous best by over 8 inches, in a close-shave regional. BLOOMINGTON – The fate of Bedford North Lawrence senior Whitley Brock was out of her hands.
Brock earned her spot in the state finals at Indiana University on June 6, finishing third with a leap of 17-0, which was over 8 inches better than her career record. Brock, battling through some nervous scratches in early jumps on a track she struggles with, exploded on her second jump of the finals.
SEYMOUR – Bedford North Lawrence senior Whitley Brock won two events as the Stars finished third in the Indiana High School Athletic Association sectional at Seymour on Tuesday night.
Floyd Central won the team title with 125 points while Jeffersonville was a distant second with 92. Sherfick was one of BNL’s offensive threats on the soccer field with eight goals, and he was named honorable mention in the Hoosier Hills Conference. During the track season, Sherfick ran the anchor leg for the 400 relay team that advanced to the state finals.
The quartet of Isaac Kuehn, Nathan Dotts, Garrett Flinn and Mason Sherfick crossed in 43.84 seconds. BNL’s 1600 relay team was disqualified during its trial race for stepping out of the assigned lane. BNL’s Nathan Dotts, Isaac Kuehn, Garrett Flinn, Jordan Smith and Mason Sherfick will compete in relays during the IHSAA state track finals on Friday at Indiana University.
Bedford North Lawrence will fire its rockets when it sends two relays to the Indiana High School Athletic Association state finals on Friday at Indiana University. The Stars will compete in the 1600 relay for the fourth consecutive year, and set a precedent when they race in the 400 relay for the first time in program history.
Senior sprinter Nathan Dotts, making his fourth straight trip to the finals, will join first-time senior Mason Sherfick plus juniors Isaac Kuehn and Garrett Flinn in the furious 400.
Other competitors for BNL included Ethan Royer (fifth in the pole vault at 13-1, missing a place in the state meet by three inches), Justin Sims (seventh in the 110 hurdles in 16.01), Jordan Anderson (12th in the pole vault at 11-10) and Kenlee Ratliff (13th in the discus at 114-10). Dotts, last year’s regional champion in the 200 meter dash, scratched from that event. Bedford North Lawrence won four events during the IHSAA sectional at BNL on Thursday night. GALENA – Bedford North Lawrence scored 44 points to finish eighth in the Hoosier Hills Conference meet at Floyd Central on Thursday night. Floyd Central, ranked No.11 in the latest state poll, dominated the meet with 180 points, almost doubling up on runner-up Jeffersonville (96 points).
NOBLESVILLE – Bedford North Lawrence settled for seventh place in the Noblesville Relays on Tuesday night. Dominique McBryde won three individual events as Bedford North Lawrence posted a 69-63 victory over Brownstown during girls high school track action at BNL on Thursday night. With meet on the line, with only one point separating the county rivals in the team score as the outcome hinged on the final race, they battled step for step down the front straight in the 1600-meter relay, churning toward the finish.

NORTH VERNON – Jennings County swept to the team championships in its own Big Blue Relays on Friday night. In the girls meet, the Panthers won the title with 124 points while BNL and Seymour tired for second with 105. Over a five year period former Formula One driver Jonathan Palmer has developed the track using all his motorsport experience tweeking and changing it until it was perfect.

Rain, sun or snow, students train up to five miles each day.   Track meets are held indoors at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Boston or the Boston University Track and Tennis Center, also in Boston.
These meets are run so efficiently that every few seconds or minute spectators hear the call of a race and the loud pop of a starter gun. Scharff, Aric Farrill, Branson Leonard and Kirs Imsong took first place in the 4 X200 relay.  Angus Wong led in the hurdles races and high jumper Jamal Mccabe placed second in the high jump. In the boys meet, Seymour won with 62 points, Jennings was second with 55 and BNL totaled 52. McBryde was fourth in the regional (with the top three moving on in the state series) with a leap of 16-7 ?, and she missed advancing to the state by 4 ? inches. After posting her career-best during the regional at Bloomington North, she wants to exit with another chart-topping performance.
She was only two inches from winning the event, yet she had to wait until the last competitor burst down the runway before her spot in the state championship was secured.
Brock qualified for the state finals by finishing third in the event during Tuesday’s IHSAA regional at Bloomington North. When Lacy, worn out after competing in the 400 meter race just minutes before returning to the long jump pit, couldn’t summon the energy to execute and scratched on her final attempt, Brock celebrated with BNL assistant coach Jo Carter, who was suffering through the suspense much worse than her pupil.
He has created a fantastic circuit with some excellent corners, S bends, hairpins and excellent high speed sections that would test any car to its limit. Runners Sarah Nosal, Sabine Galvis, Kendall Hiltz, Merry Roy, Elizabeth Carter, and Natalie Huggins, all had strong performances.
Roberts, who signed to play soccer at Franklin, finished with 9 goals and 6 assists (despite shifting back from forward to the midfield) during the soccer season.
Bedford is unique as it has four main circuits that all link together to form an amazing 3.6 mile Gran Turismo circuit or 34 other configurations. This is an ideal first Track Day circuit as it has no barriers due to the fact it doesn’t host any races which makes it much safer as the run off areas are massive giving you less things to hit. They built up the bike exceptionally well with lot of American made parts from Phil Wood and Chris King.
Bedford is also new base of channel Fives Fifth Gear where you can see all the presenters test driving cars around the track.
