The PECO Energizing Education Program, or PEEP, is an energy-focused, project-based program for school communities in the Greater Philadelphia Region. This year’s program will include hands-on energy explorations coupled with a student-led community project to teach the local community about energy and energy efficiency and conservation.
PECO, NEED and The Franklin Institute and the United Way are honored to bring this program to PECO schools and afterschool programs. United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey has, for nearly a century, responded to the needs of our local community while simultaneously addressing the root causes of key issues. The mission of The National Energy Education Development (NEED) Project is to promote an energy conscious and educated society by creating effective networks of students, educators, business, government and community leaders to design and deliver objective, multi-sided energy education programs. The NEED Project's multi-sided training and instructional programs on all aspects of energy, including production, consumption, and economic and environmental issues, give students an understanding of the interrelationship between energy and the environment. The mission of the NEED Project is to promote an energy conscious and educated society by creating effective networks of students, educators, business, government and community leaders to design and deliver objective, multi-sided energy education programs. Participating schools and afterschool programs implement hands-on energy curriculum to explore the science of energy, renewable and nonrenewable sources of energy, electricity generation, and efficiency and conservation.
For selected projects, be prepared to present at the Philadelphia Science Festival Carnival held on April 30th. Work with students, staff, parents, and community members to implement curriculum activities and plan a community outreach project, to be completed by May 6, 2016.
Execute the community project and create a digital submission about the project and its results.

We do this by inspiring and uniting the power of individuals, the business community, and the public and nonprofit sectors around common goals. The NEED Project is dedicated to developing innovative energy education materials and training programs for teachers and students.


More important, NEED's student-directed activities empower students to take active roles in educating their peers, families, and communities about energy issues.
NEED works with energy companies, agencies and organizations to bring balanced energy programs to the nation's schools with a focus on strong teacher professional development, timely and balanced curriculum materials, signature program capabilities and turn-key program management.
