Almost overnight sleepy villages and distant fields were transformed into bright new suburbs for the aspiring home-owner. I really look forward to keeping track of this one (no pun intended, at least until I realised I'd done it!)It's great to see such a well planned and thought out layout.
Some of them look very interesting.if they are metal I would be quite interested at the price. If you reside in an EU member state besides UK, import VAT on this purchase is not recoverable. The commuter was born and the Southern Railway invested heavily in electrification to provide fast and frequent services. Most of the wood is recycled from the previous layout.At the front are two sets of legs for front and back. I'm sure it would be flimsy if i built it sir!I am quite envious of the plan, i would love to have spent the time planning mine. I think Flying Scotsman is the nicest of the ones I own although it carries all the signs of being directly copied from the old Hornby tender driven model complete with 'hump' for the front screw mounting in front of the smokebox!While I can't comment on the suitability for conversion into an NER prototype I can offer a word of caution about scale. It seems to say that they are modelled to 1 -160 which is continental scale rather than1-148 which is British N. By 1929 all suburban lines had been electrified and over the following years long-distance routes followed suit. The track plan showing all the scenic aspects etc is excellent too!To be honest for some months I've been a position where I couldn't do any practical work at all, only plan, so I put my energies into designing and refining every aspect of the layout I could think of.


The legs have casters so I can easily move the layout to access the back and sides.Here is the frame assembled. This cantilevered section extends a couple of feet beyond the main frame, but I can lean on it quite firmly And now with the plywood fixed in position. It's pretty solid Danny: Once the plywood is screwed into place it sort of sandwiches the structure above the girders into a locked mass. The main thing I'll be looking forward to will be the architecture, especially the station buildings, knowing your preferences.
The legs do wobble about a cm widthways, but I'll fix that with a couple of extra cross beams just below the girders. But the whole raised line between the 2 stations will have loads of potential for depth, dirt and intrigue.You got style.
Obviously there's quite an art-deco theme going on here ~ but there will also be plenty of buildings from earlier periods too, I just haven't yet decided which. I read that it's stronger yet lighter than traditional methods, and allows for cantilevering sections too, so thought I'd give it a go.

I double checked details like positioning of point motors, radius on curves and clearances etc - especially on the right-hand side where the tracks run on a viaduct. I took a bit of time over all this because once I'd cut the the plywood it wouldn't be easy to correct mistakes!
