Ho crossover turnout, boston to new york bus, weathering model railroad cars - Review

Build busy mainlines, sidings and yards all along your layout with this line of ready-to-use track and accessories.
All items come fully assembled, ready to install with nickel-silver rail and dark brown plastic ties, unless noted. While this is a beatiful addition to a pair of mainlines, it is one beast to install and get running. So, what if you install a "non-DCC friendly" turnout, or slip, or double crossover, on your DCC layout? Thanks, and it's neccesary to make it work in DCC or it's just in case lomotives stop in the switch? After reviewing their use I replaced my existing yard area by incorporating the double slips into the design of the yard area.
The second photo shows my 7-track pass-through yard, which contains an ancient double-slip switch controlled by one control rod. If all of the tracks in the puzzle are parallel, all of the frogs should have the same number unless you're involved in some really adventurous tracklaying.
As a recent reply indicated, Atlas is not a familiar name when it comes to double slip switches except in O gauge.  Are we talking about O gauge here? To me, a double slip switch is basically a crossing with movable points to permit divergent routing.
A double slip provides 8 alternative divergent routings, a double crossover provides only 4 alternative divergent routings, and a crossover is limited to two alternative divergent routings.

Yes, they are HO and they came in an Altas box complete with an instruction sheet showing how to install them in a yard and a grid showing how to set your track centers.
I looked through the on-line Atlas catalog to order some more and noticed that they no longer carry them in HO only O scale .
As I mentioned my yard area which was a series of ladders used to be in a triangle shape, now using the double slips it is now rectangluar in shape and there is substantially more track in place in the yard. I meant to mention that I have had very little problems with derailing, also there is a lot of metal in these switches and are surprisingly heavy. Hi,Andy Tait submitted a full set of schematics that illustrate how to wire a double crossover using four Tortoise switch machines.
I may be the old fashion type, but one way to set controls in a panel is with push buttons and a power capacitor supply.
Hi all!I am about to wire all turnouts and the big issue is the double crossover (with live frogs) whose ends have 4 double slips. Thank you!I actually suspected the frog juicers could not be used in analog mode: therefeore I will make the double crossover only DCC-friendly and all non-analog engines will avoid it.
Hello Kurt,Although it's not prototypical to control a double crossover manually it's technically feasible with the BullFrog switch machines using 2 micro switches mounted on each of them. Available in two popular sizes, Code 100 simulates heavy (155+ pounds) mainline trackage, while Code 70 can be used for medium rail (100 pounds) found on branchlines and sidings. In my track plan I've the following double slip and I would like to know if they are ready for DCC, or if not if can make them dcc friendly.
Some turnouts already incorporate most or all of these ideas, some have most of them, some have none. Import charges previously quoted are subject to change if you increase you maximum bid amount. As these are essentially both a crossover and a switch combined I increased the amount of trackage in the yard area substantially.
I will be using a series of 4 pole, 3 throw rotary switches and probably a handfull of diodes. All turnouts in the layout (Tillig and Weller) have live frogs. As I am planning to use small servo motors to shift the point blades, this is my question:should the servo motors directly be connected to a digital decoder (such as Uhlembrock's or ESU's, for instance) that does not provide any polarity and then should the polarity of the 6 frogs be provided by 1 big frog juicer?

Simply replicate the wiring for the Tortoise machines that use contacts 2 through 7 and orient them the same way on the micro switches, where one switch would be contacts 2, 3 and 4 while the other is 5, 6 and 7.
Although individual Tortoise contacts are break-before-make, there is no assurance that two different ones will obey that sequence. The two can be combined for a more realistic variety of rail sizes, or used with other brands of track. If you reside in an EU member state besides UK, import VAT on this purchase is not recoverable. The double slip switch is mainly for a yard, where slow speed short switchers are the motive power.
There is a chance that a dead short will occur through the Tortoise contacts, even if they are thrown at the same time.
I do not know what would be simple or difficult for you, so I may not be able to give the best answer.
Wouldn'it?And it seems to me this scheme is fully valid for DCC operations (I would like my layout to be DCC-ready) but not for analog ones.Unfortunately, as I still have some locomotives without decoder, how can I feed the frogs in analog mode?I know for sure that, in order to avoid troubles, all analog locomotives will not be allowed to enter the double crossover (DCC operated) but at least, I would like them to go through the double slips. What happens to the frogs in analog mode? This will lead to an early death of the contacts. My updated schematic avoids this issue with a minor change. I am also untested at creating drawn images as shown above, so I would also be unable to give even the simplest of schematics. I did not update the animated versions, just the master. Also, if anyone wants it I will post my control wiring diagram.
Each of the seven rails can be accessed from within the yard by the switcher, so that the switcher and consist never tie up the mainline, which merges with the drill tracks. It used two DPDT switches; one selects normal or crossover, the second selects which way the crossover goes when the first switch selects crossover.
