A skidder is any type of heavy vehicle used in a logging operation for pulling cut trees out of a forest in a process called "skidding", in which the logs are transported from the cutting site to a landing. Bachmann Silver Series HO 17004 Southern Railway (Look Ahead Look South) PS-1 40' box car already assembled is based on the ones built in 1941. Bachmann Silver Series HO 17025 Chicago and Illinois Midland 40' box car already assembled is based on the ones built in 1955. Bachmann Silver Series HO 17642 Norfolk and Western 40' quad hopper car already assembled is based on the ones built in 1935.

Here they are loaded onto trucks (or in times past, railroad cars or flumes), and sent to the mill. The box car, while not the simplest freight car design, is probably the most versatile, since it can carry most loads. Only issue was the little plastic sticks for the side rails weren't all the same size and were difficult to put into the sides of the car.
One exception is that in the early days of logging, when distances to the timberline from the mill were shorter, the landing stage was omitted altogether, and the "skidder" would have been used as the main road vehicle, in place of the trucks, railroad, or flume.
