Introduced in 1949, the Electro-Motive 1500hp GP-7 combined the machinery of the F7 with a hood-type carbody that offered high visibility and easy engine access. Its beauty is only skin deep, with very, very poor performance, pulling only a half dozen cars without straining. The first General Purpose locomotive, introduced in 1949, the GP7 had the distinctive design and low-cost maintenance features that made EMD’s “Geeps” so popular and helped ensure diesel’s dominance of the railroads. With great prices, fast shipping, and top-rated customer service - once you know, you Newegg.
The GP-7 was used in pulling every conceivable type of train and was sometimes substituted for part of a set of cab units. Bachmann’s model includes advanced features such as an NMRA-compliant DCC decoder, LED lighting, and finescale detailing—all now fitted to N scale.
Originally meant to be a switching locomotive to replace the ALCO S1, though much larger and more powerful, it's modern design made it appealing as a standard revenue freight diesel. Features include: DCC-equipped for speed, direction, and lighting, dual-mode NMRA-compliant decoder, all-wheel drive, can motor, super-quiet drive train, die-cast chassis, finescale handrails, blackened metal wheels, directional lighting, NMRA wheel profile, E-Z Mate® Mark II couplers.

GP-7's can be found in service today though most Class 1 roads ceased using these locomotives in the early 80s. Bachmann's model includes advanced features such as an NMRA-compliant DCC decoder, LED lighting, and finescale detailing - all now fitted to N scale.
