This is the most track-focused Mustang ever, getting its power from a 5.2-liter flat-plane V8 that Ford says will make more than 500 HP and in excess of 400 lb-ft of torque. About 150 pounds was stripped from this car compared to the Shelby GT350 with the track package thanks to the exclusion of air conditioning, the stereo, the rear seats, the trunk carpet, a rear-view camera and emergency tire sealer. The suspension is beefed up with revised spring rates, antiroll bars and more, while standard carbon fiber wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires are fitted. The GT350R will go on sale later this year, though production will be capped to just 37 units for the 2015 model year.
Compared side by side, the two are quite similar on paper, but when driven, the two feel entirely different. Surprisingly similar in some aspects, yet still completely different in others, these two hatches take different approaches to a common goal. Despite how similar the Kia and Nissan may appear on paper, they are very different in execution.

After all the sleepless nights, diaper changes and sporadic meltdowns, my parents deserve a little break. Yes, this is indeed Mike Schlee’s much cooler, far cuter son in control behind the keyboard. During my short time on this earth, I’ve gotten to ride along in some impressive machinery. So that’s why cars like the 2016 Volkswagen Jetta are so important to us as a young family. Measuring in at 183.3-inches in length, the Jetta is one of the largest compact cars on the market.
Since the sixth-generation Jetta was introduced, there have been continued tweaks made to the car.
This year, there’s a new base engine in the Jetta and it’s all my daddy keeps talking about. There may not be a lot of power in the lowest rpms, but the 1.4 turbo comes alive once the revs build past 2,000 rpm. The new small turbocharged engine can be paired to a five-speed manual or an optional six-speed automatic.
The 1.4 turbo does need premium gasoline to achieve maximum power, but it can run on regular with slightly reduced power. Even if the 2016 Jetta is not built on the Golf’s MQB platform, it handles quite well, especially for a big, contemporary compact.
Daddy says the steering feel, suspension rebound and ride comfort still have a very German feel to them even if this is the least German Volkswagen model.
And that price is just $20,595 as tested after destination charges, or the equivalent of roughly 824 containers of baby formula. Is the all-weather Subaru Impreza or the value packed Hyundai Elantra GT the better compact hatchback?
One major difference between the race car and the production car is that the Super Trofeo is rear-wheel drive while the standard Huracan is an all-wheel drive model, as was the previous Gallardo-based race car. As for the Super Trofeo variant, it was co-developed by Dallara Engineering and will be showcased at the Quail Motorsports gathering during the Pebble Beach Automotive Week. All new for 2016 (even if it doesn’t look it), the Kia Optima is a big deal for the Korean company.
To make a radical change to its mid-size sedan now would upset the momentum that Kia has built up to this point. It may be hard to really differentiate the new Optima from the outgoing model, but that’s just fine. Kia’s designers definitely showed a sense of restraint, making sure the car still looked respectable rather than overdone with larger grilles, excessive chrome and other tacky add-ons. The UVO infotainment system arrives standard with Android Auto, and is responsive, bright and easy to use. The turbocharged 2.0-liter engine didn’t feel wheezy in the higher altitudes, and pushed the Optima through the corners and twisty roads.
A number of driver assists are available, including adaptive cruise control and a forward collision avoidance technology.
There are five trim levels of the Optima, with the base LX coming in at $22,675 and arriving with such luxuries as a six-way adjustable driver’s seat with power lumbar adjustment, six-way adjustable front passenger’s seat with height adjuster, a rear view camera and a five-inch touchscreen. The EX 2.4 trim costs $25,715 and includes high-end headlights with LED accents, LED tail lights, power folding heated mirrors, a 12-way adjustable driver’s seat with power lumbar support and memory system, a heated steering wheel and leather-trimmed heated front seats. The SXL trim Optima comes standard with all these features and includes the pretty quilted Nappa Leather seats, and costs $36,615. This redesign feels like a gross lesson in how small design changes within the same design language can just ruin everything. You raise a good point as I was looking at some 2012 Kia Souls for my sister a few months ago.
Yes, I know it’s been months since this was posted, but since Ted said it was ugly, it would have been nice to know compared to what. Have they improved the awful road noise and lack of power height adjustment in the passenger seat?
Any special qualification, degree or skills is not necessary for this, just keyboard typing and a good working and reliable internet connection …. Not any Time limitations to start work … You may do this work at any time when you willing to do it ….
When Honda set out to redesign the Civic for 2016, it had a lofty goal in mind: to build the best C-Segment vehicle in the world. That may seem like a rather logical objective, after all who wants to benchmark mediocre rivals? Like a Marine Corp sniper, they targeted the latest crop of premium small cars, products like the Audi A3 and Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class. Understandably, the stakes with this all-new, totally redesigned, completely overhauled 10th generation Civic are higher than Colorado following the passage of Amendment 64. One area where this longstanding nameplate finally eclipses rival small cars is design, a feature its predecessor completely lacked. The 2016 model has some unexpected style, with an arching roofline, short rear end and muscular fenders.
To my jaundiced eyes, the 2016 Civic is one of the most attractive compact sedans available today.
And all that visual panache hides a totally new architecture that provides increased dimensions. Matching the overwhelming newness of its platform, the 2016 Civic also features a pair of fresh powerplants. Uplevel EX-T and EX-L trims both feature a 1.5-liter turbocharged four with direct injection and a specially tuned CVT. On paper, this is a pretty appealing engine lineup, but the fuel economy figures these powertrains provide are even more intriguing. Mirroring the styling improvements made to the Civic’s exterior, its cabin has also been completely revamped for 2016.
Given the Civic’s size increase, it should come as no surprise that it’s also more spacious and comfortable inside. A five-inch touchscreen is standard in LX models but higher-trim variants receive a seven-inch display that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. As for options, the car can be dressed up with snazzy LED illumination for the headlamps, DRLs and tail lights. The Civic’s steering has improved nicely, though a little more heft in the tiller would be nice. As for braking, this car’s pedal is reassuringly firm, controlling discs at all four corners. All told, the 2016 Civic is near the top of its field when it comes to driving dynamics, though it may not be valedictorian. With sharp design, a higher quality interior and stellar fuel economy, it’s safe to say the 2016 Civic is the best one ever.
As it has with previous generations, Honda will undoubtedly sell hundreds of thousands of these cars ever year and that’s not even counting the coupe, hatchback, Si and Type R models that are still in the works. VW shows off its MQB architecture with its Golf Sportwagen, a more spacious version of its popular Golf.

In addition to your points, the only thing I have to add is a request for a way to pry off that ridiculous chrome bar on the grille.
But that’s still not full HP output, which then would translate to more torque at that speed if the engine could ramp up to 6000RPM at that MPH.
Our spy photographers grabbed these shots of the GT350R out cruising around the streets of Dearborn, Michigan. To make sure heavy track use doesn’t damage the engine, an air-to-oil engine oil cooler is fitted along with a standard cooler for the six-speed manual. Aerodynamics have also been improved on this car, adding to the sinister look with a low ground effects kit and that large curved rear spoiler. Entrant waives the right to assert as a cost of winning a prize any and all costs of verification and redemption or travel to redeem said prize and any liability which might arise from redeeming or seeking to redeem said prize. So, I sat my daddy down and babbled incessantly at him until he got the message – I would help out by writing the review for the 2016 Volkswagen Jetta.
Hellcats, 911s and AMGs have all been graced by my presence, but I’m a financially practical baby.
Right now, I’m a mere 28 inches tall and remain cradled in a rear-facing child seat when on the move. With full-size-car equivalent rear seat space, my infant seat fits no problem and neither mommy nor daddy have to be squished up against the dashboard in the front passenger seat.
Measuring in at 1.4-liters, the turbocharged four-cylinder engine makes 150 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque.
The six-speed is one of the better conventional automatics in its class as shifts are smooth, effortless and non-intrusive. And while speaking of gas, the new engine is much more efficient that the old 2.0-liter engine.
The interior may be made of low quality materials that I’ll most likely scratch one day, but the mechanics and technology are where the money was spent. The Jetta always offered a lot of car for the money and now it offers a lot of engine as well. Though it only has 9 hp more than the standard model bringing the total to 611 hp, the Huracan Super Trofeo is 550 lbs lighter through the use of carbon fiber and aluminum. Naturally this brings up the idea that Lamborghini could be preparing a rear-wheel drive version of the Huracan road car. We believe it will be as fun for fans to watch as it will be rewarding for our racers to drive,” said Maurizio Reggiani, Lamborghini’s research and development boss. It was the automaker’s best seller for three consecutive years and was the first car from Kia to break the 150,000 units sold mark.
So instead of introducing a completely new looking Optima, the company gave the car some lessons in the more refined things in life, giving the car more useable torque, fancy features and a quiet demeanor.
The last generation mid-size sedan had a distinct style that was modern and sporty and the new gen Kia continues with this momentum. For example, the roofline is accented by a tasteful chrome strip that runs all the way to the trunk. It looks acceptable, and fit and finish is excellent, but the some materials leave obvious room for improvement. Less impressive is the gauge cluster, which feels plucked right out of any other from the past year, which is to say it’s a bit bland.
A 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine is found in base models making 185 hp and 178 lb-ft of torque. However in testing, the new 2.0-turbo feels remarkably smooth and was sufficient for making passes on the highway. The six-speed is smooth in the bigger turbo model, and in higher trim models, drivers can choose their gear via paddle shifters.
It’s comfortable and direct without the twitchiness and stiffness of other sport-tuned sedans. Thanks to the safety feature, the adaptive cruise control can bring the Optima to a complete stop, making it a killer feature when you’re stuck in traffic.
Buyers will have to pay $30,515 for the SX 2.0, which comes with the more powerful turbocharged engine, bi-Xenon headlights, and offers up the whole suite of driver assistance technology.
That’s a lot of money, but the fully loaded Optima is packed to the brim with features, technology and premium touches. It’s no humdrum motoring appliance, instead it offers buyers a real taste of a premium car in a mainstream market, all at a palatable price. It might feel like a quality car on the showroom floor, but it probably will be ready for the junkyard in five years’ time. There was the beginning signs of rust on some spots and some paint chips probably formed by salt.
The 2014 facelift was a tiny step in the wrong direction (especially with that tacky chrome fascia – what the f***), but this thing is a disaster. They wanted to deliver a vehicle with segment-leading refinement, safety, efficiency and dynamics, everything people need in a compact offering and plenty of up-level extras they crave. Honda needed to blow everyone away with this car after hawking somewhat lackluster offerings for the past few years. With odd proportions and a weird interior, the outgoing Civic looked like more like something you’d cook a frozen pizza in than drive. It’s an undeniably strong effort, which chiseled good looks, tasteful styling elements and an overall handsomeness that’s guaranteed to age gracefully, unlike the outgoing model. This car is nearly two inches wider and has a 1.2-inch longer wheelbase than today’s Civic sedan. In fact, the overall structure is lighter thanks to the increased use of ultra-high-strength steel, something that also helps boost torsional rigidity by 25 percent. Sporting its next-generation ACE body structure, it’s projected to earn five-star safety ratings across the board from NHTSA, but that’s not all.
Ahead of the firewall, LX and EX versions are graced with a 2.0-liter VTEC four-cylinder engine. The base engine with a CVT is estimated to deliver 31 miles per gallon city, 41 highway and 35 mpg combined. Gone are the middling-quality plastics, wonky two-tier dashboard and strange design elements that brought to mind a Picasso painting.
Customers expect advanced features in today’s vehicles and the 2016 Civic offers plenty of them.
Both iPhone users and Google fanatics should be happy, as they can safely make calls, search the interwebz and receive text messages while driving.
The 2016 model still features a confounding volume slider in lieu of a proper physical knob. You can also get Honda Sensing, the company’s suite of advanced driver-assistance technology, which offers things like road departure mitigation, forward collision warning and even adaptive cruise control.
It does a pretty convincing imitation of an Audi, that is, effort is extremely light at parking-lot speeds but it bulks up promptly as speed increases, providing a direct and predictable connection to the front wheels. Fortunately, despite the rapid turn-in, it’s not the least bit nervous, something that’s probably addressed by the company’s Straight Driving Assist feature.
Given its confidence-boosting performance you’d think it’d be grabby, but fortunately that’s not the case. Air leaks have been reduced by 58 percent, the car features a flush-mounted acoustic-glass windshield and its doors have triple seals. The Mazda3 is still a formidable competitor and even Ford’s Focus is a lot of fun to drive. The new Civic is a home run and perhaps more importantly than that, it’s the first small Honda in a long time that’s actually worth getting excited about. Other than that, I think the design is gorgeous inside and out, and would love to test the dynamics of the car.
In any event maybe some other people don’t like the crosstour since Honda is discontinuing it.
You can floor it and it’ll stay in the same ratio if you have it set to manual in a Carolla CVT. Sponsor is not responsible for fraudulent calls or emails made to entrants not by the Sponsor. I know my parents won’t be putting one of those cars in our driveway anytime soon – especially since they keep talking about this other mouth they have to feed now. I might spend my childhood years riding around in the backseat, making finger drawings on fogged-up windows. These baby safety seats take up a lot of space, but the Jetta is up to the task, offering 38.1 inches of rear legroom. Eventually, my parents will turn me around to a forward-facing car seat and all that space will be great for me to kick my little legs wildly without leaving shoe prints all over the back of the front seats.

This means besides a big backseat, there is also 15.7 cubic feet of cargo space – more than a Toyota Camry. That’s an increase of 35 hp and 59 lb-ft of torque compared to last year’s 2.0-liter, 8-valve base engine. Officially rated at 28 mpg city and 39 mpg highway, I was able to catch glimpse of the dashboard while being buckled into the car one day and saw we averaged 30.6 mpg during our week with the Jetta. I was never jostled or disturbed in my car seat over large bumps and found the Jetta quite a nice car to catch a little nap in.
Even if it could really use a dose of style and upgraded interior, the Jetta S is still an underrated chassis and compact car as a whole, especially for the price.
The Jetta’s rear seat and boot space is pretty awesome for the segment (like the Mazda 3 handling, but the rear seats are cramped) and to be fair same with the Passat. Around back, a pair of oval exhaust tips stick out from a sporty carbon-fiber looking diffuser.
One painful point is the glossy soft touch material found on top of the dashboard, which shimmers in sunlight and can blind the driver and passenger, or create a glare in the windshield.
A 2.0-liter turbo-four was the only powertrain available for testing, a mill that makes 245 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. If anything, Kia took out some of the rowdiness out of the engine, and the result is a very composed, smooth and well-behaved motor.
Also available is a drive mode selector, which modifies the transmission shift logic and steering effort to deliver a sportier drive in Sport mode, or more fuel efficient one in Eco mode.
Around the canyons and mountain passes of Aspen, Colorado, the car was entertaining enough, but skewed more towards comfortable. Other features like blind spot assist, lane departure warning and a very useful 360-degree camera for parking are all available as well. I’m not one for the blingy chrome stuff, but it was done very tastefully on that car.
Just put in a new battery with more CCA than factory and other than the usual maintenance this car is the bomb. So the car is getting better, but it is losing its sporting edge which made the difference between a Kia and Hyundai and created a faithful Kia following. There are actually things I will miss about the Optima, and to say that when I’m in a premium-segment German car with an MSRP of over $50k is really saying something for the design and engineering of that previous Optima platform. I wonder if his attention has been sucked up by the launch of the K900 and the redesign of the Cadenza. If kia was about 5k cheaper than the retail tag they would definitely be the best car on the road.
So, instead of going after competing vehicles like the Toyota Corolla, Dodge Dart or Volkswagen Jetta, Honda product planners trained their target on something else.
It’s also on track to be crowned with Top Safety Pick+ honors from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
That’s more than a Mazda3 or Nissan Sentra and is on par with a Ford Focus equipped with their 1.0-liter three-cylinder EcoBoost engine. Even hard materials, which are used sparingly, look a cut above what’s normally found in the C-Segment.
This helps the car track like it’s on rails, automatically compensating for crowed roads, keeping you on an even keel. All of these enhancements do indeed make for a silent cabin, though it doesn’t seem appreciably quieter than the interiors of rival cars. It’s responsive, well isolated and feels surprisingly lively, even when paired with the continuously variable transmission. A proper comparison test is needed to determine which of C-Segment offerings most entertaining.
I am not that great on technology, but early on Torque from a turbo seems to make a great deal of difference. If the Sweepstakes is not capable of running as planned by reason of damage by computer viruses, worms or bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical limitations or failures, any Force Majeure Event or any other cause which, in the sole opinion of Sponsor, could corrupt, compromise, undermine or otherwise affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity, viability or proper conduct of the Sweepstakes, Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole and absolute discretion, to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend all or any part of the Sweepstakes, and to select a winner from among all eligible entries received by Sponsor up until the time of such cancellation, termination, modification or suspension, as applicable.
This might be the car I end up learning to drive in and if I’m lucky, even have it handed down to me one day. There’s enough room in there for things like my stroller, pack and play, bouncy chair and a dozen or so of my favorite stuffed animal friends.
But daddy says the biggest improvement for the engine is how smooth and refined it feels compared to the old one. Will admit I like hatch backs so, so lean towards the Golf more than the Jetta if I was looking at this segment. The Optima also is available with slick looking LED tail lights and also offers a great looking headlight design with LED daytime running lights that give the car an easily identifiable light profile. They look even better in higher trim levels, with that oh-so-cool diamond stitched pattern in the leather. With the ’11-13 design, they were in this great design space, where the aggressiveness, stance and very Bavarian cleanliness of the lines made for elegant design, but some of the flashier details (especially on the chromed out SXL) of more space-agey Japanese sport styling sensibilities had it right in this nice Goldilocks zone between refined and sporty. It looks the same in some essential way, but honestly, if you look at this design and think of anything other than a Camry drawn up by an ADHD-addled tween, I would like some of what you’re smoking.
The Optimas then definitely had a very Audi look to them (which makes sense, given that the design chief is a former Audi guy). The 274Hp Turbo has instantaneous response for cut and thrust and after mission accomplished the car just settles back into steady-ready for what’s next. The thing that blows my mind is that I bought it in 2012 very, very lightly used with like 2,700 miles on it for like $26k and change. At the time, the Kia Optima had the best cockpit experience and dash out of all of them – not relative to price, but period. Thanks to these changes, the company claims it has the largest cabin in the compact segment. A continuously variable automatic transmission is standard across the board except in the LX model where you can choose a six-speed manual.
Rear-seat knee-room has increased by more than two inches and six-footers should have no issue fitting back there. This gearless ratio-swapper is surprisingly livable, though I still prefer traditional step-ratio transmissions.
Should be fast enough if the RPMs can reach peak torque levels quickly after full throttle is requested. Sponsor reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any individual that (i) tampers or attempts to tamper with the entry process or the operations of this Sweepstakes in any manner, (ii) violates the Official Rules, Terms and Conditions or (iii) acts in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner, or with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other person.
He must really like them as he slows way down and gives them a second and third look quite often.
The large, squared-off rear door openings are also great, allowing my car seat to be put in and out without bumping it off the door frame. The only questionable exterior design element is the Turbo badges found on the front fender, which seem a bit unnecessary.
Kia may not be making big splashes with the horsepower numbers of its engines, but the torque figures are impressive. The KBB is telling me that now, with 21,000 miles on it, it’s still worth about $24k and change. The new design seriously looks like some intern took the radio console from my e90 bimmer and combined it with the slapdash chaos of my wife’s dual-screen Accord hybrid dashboard. The Sponsor shall have the right at any time to require proof of identity and failure to provide such proof may result in disqualification from the Sweepstakes. CAUTION: ANY ATTEMPT BY AN ENTRANT OR ANY OTHER INDIVIDUAL TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE OR UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THIS SWEEPSTAKES IS A VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS. Peak torque in the turbocharged engines arrives at under 2,000 rpm, while the naturally aspirated unit peaks at 4,000 rpm. We will take this beauty into retirement next year and be very thankful we bought when we did. The front looks like a cross between a Toyota Camry and a Chrysler 200C… and the back looks like a Honda Accord. I have zero doubt that these cars are likely to hold their value quite well through 100,000 miles, especially now that the successor looks like someone crashed AutoCAD making it. Any expenses and receipt and use of the prize and federal, state and local taxes and fees applicable in connection with the prize awarded are the sole responsibility of the winner. An IRS Form 1099 will be issued in the name of the winner for the actual value of the prize received. Sponsor or its affiliates may rescind any promotion found to contain such errors without liability at its or their sole discretion.
