I prefer 1 plan per item leaving a general arrangement plan to explain heights above a base line and frame spacing’s. All plans come with a full set of PDF files (Adobe reader files) from the parts themselves to the general arrangement plan. This iconic racing boat was originally designed by George Crouch in 1924 and went on to win the 1924 and 1925 APBA Gold Cup. It has been said that the 16 foot Gar Wood speedster is, pound for pound, the most valuable classic production speed boat in the world.

Other than getting feet, inches and eighths of inches onto timber at full size, there really is too much information for a single plan. Most frustrating of all is the fact that so many offsets are wrong, these offsets where generally taken after the boat was built and it’s easy to see how they where either measured or copied down wrong.
Some builders have printed their own plans at home first at say 1:10 and built up a scaled model first.
The plans went back and forth between myself and Bruce until until we were both happy.  Bruce knew what timber he had available so the frames and spacing were quickly set up.

Fortunately this is a lot easier than it used to be thanks to a man called John who runs Classic Wooden Boat Plans.
John took the faded blueprints and design drawings for Bootlegger and created modern boat plans out of them using advanced CAD software, the entire structure of the boat is now digitised for the ages and people have bought the plans and built their own Baby Bootleggers all around the world. The plans are available from John via Classic Wooden Boat Plans for $275 USD, they come on a CD ROM and allow you to zoom in and out, rotate and print multiple copies (for measuring, cutting and making jigs).
