Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” is becoming one of the more frequently performed songs of our generation.  You may have heard it recently at the Olympics or during a recent nationally televised fundraising event.  The King’s Singers recorded it in 2009, and soprano voice David Hurley says it’s hard to get the music out of your head.

“I think for me the Hallelujah, the Leonard Cohen song Hallelujah, is, it’s a sort of hypnotic quality that it has.  The rising melody just sort of keeps you listening and the word ‘Hallelujah’ repeated over and over again and yet the slightly bittersweet quality of the rest of the text.  It’s a curious song but it’s one that (small laugh) just gets on the brain and you want to keep listening to it.”
