Frederick Chopin wrote two piano concertos within a two year period while he was still a teenager.  Pianist Garrick Ohlsson says the first concerto is pretty straight forward, while the second concerto drifts back and forth between a number of different personalities.

"The Second Concerto, which was written first, is less direct, it's extremely beautiful, but it's more personal in a way.  The slow movement, however, is the drop dead movement of the pair.  And written at age 19, this is as great a masterpiece as anybody has ever written.  This is a profound and deep and beautiful operatic work, sort of in the Bellini mold, but with more depth than a lot of Bellini.  Really a stunning work and so it's perhaps the movement of the two concertos that's closest to my heart and to most people's hearts, I think."
