The centerpiece of Conductor Andrew Litton‘s latest recordings is the epic Cello Concerto by Dvorak.  When looking for another work by Dvorak to complete the CD, he had several obvious options.  In choosing the Serenade for Winds, he took the high road.

"It was fun because when we were trying to come up with a filler for the Cello Concerto it was challenging. You know, I didn't want to do some Slavonic Dances or something sort of cheap and nasty. And it just seemed like the ideal coupling. Especially because the rest of the recording was so string oriented. You know, all of those London orchestras - all of those British orchestras really, but the London orchestras in particular have such star wind players. You know, they're just great. And so you give them a solo turn like this and they just shine."
