"I think the reason that Hovhaness is experiencing a growing popularity is because we are becoming such a smaller planet and just about everything in our society is influenced by many cultures.  And his music is such a mixture.  There's a great Asian element, there's a little bit of a Middle Eastern element.  His own nationality is Armenian and yet, it almost has an American, open, Copland-esque feeling sometimes.  It's a beautiful blend and representative of our culture and our society right now."
