The practice session closes with a series of six creative drills and variations designed to sharpen the short game. This fix a golf hook drill derived from Andy Plummer and Mike Bennett is great for the golfer who swings a a path too far in to out. Plummer and Bennett claim that if you stand up too fast right before impact, it causes the path of the club to approach too far in to out. Assuming that your left arm is not diving straight down and your right arm is becoming stuck, the karate chop drill is also excellent in eliminating the duck hook. One of the biggest problems golfers face with an in to out path is the belief of shifting the weight to the back foot. Ensuring that you stacked your centers correctly your chances of coming from inside will now be slim. By improving your clubface aim at address you are then lessening the chance to bring the clubface back to impact closed. Hey Bo when I got back from camp I played really well Ia€™m putting great and Ia€™m hitting the ball well.

Many golfers that come to see me believe that a hook is any ball flight that curves strongly to the left (for the right handed golfer) ending up in the left rough. A hook is defined as a ball flight that starts out to the right or on line and then curves sharply from right-to-left, ending up left of your intended target. It may sound like a subtle difference but these two shots are caused by different swing paths into the ball. A hook (ball starts way right of target and curves back too far left) is caused by too much of an in-to-out swing path and too much hand rotation. A pull-hook (ball starts left of target and curves further left) is caused by an out-to-in swing path and too much hand rotation. Swing 2 – Here the club breaks through the blue line and gets very flat (particularly in image 4). Once you feel like you have your swing on the correct path into the ball, the second step is to control the rotation of your hands through the golf ball. Be sure to check that your grip on the club isn’t too strong (see part 2 of this series).
The XL Iron gives you incredible resistance training both in your backswing and in your throughswing. That wide arc is essential for building lag which creates faster club head speeds that result in longer distances. Jim McLean has analyzed every component of the swing and identified eight key check point positions – the foundation of his everyday teaching. He includes practice drills that can be used near the putting green and on the course to help players become more creative, more focused, and more confident in their ability to hit the proper shots with the proper clubs-not just for par but for birdies as well. Starting with the set-up, Stobs covers the stance and hand position to gain a better entry into the sand.
Once you understand why the hook happens, you can make an educated decision on the following drills that can help you. Doing this will likely set your upper spine tilted away from target influencing you to slide to your back foot.

I wanted to let you know that I shot a 75 the other day in a tournament round, my best round ever. I went out and played and shot a 75 which is one of my best rounds this year so I think everything is coming together. This will cause the ball to start too far to the right and encourages a lot of hand and forearm rotation to bring the ball back left. By correcting your swing path, you should automatically begin to rotate your hands less aggressively. The extreme size of the XL Iron’s clubface gives you the heightened visual awareness of the club face angle. The LagBuilderTM is ambidextrous by design so it works for both left- and right-handed golfers.
Now you can use these eight steps to check your swing and be on the way to building a golf swing you can count on for years to come. Join short game guru Jimmy Stobs, two-time National Championship coach at Barry University, as he discusses best practices for strengthening this important component of play. Two additional putting drills are included to help build confidence in short putts (six foot and in) and to eliminate cutting putts. Also included in this section is a tried-and-true drill that focuses on using the bounce of the club. If you visualize swinging your hands far away from your head during the downswing, it should help to fix the hook that occurs.
