Player passes to coach, comes off of an imaginary down screen, catches, shoots, rebounds, and repeats for 5 shots. At position 5, the player will execute a between-the-legs dribble and then a low crossover. Tip #1 - Run this drill from the opposite side of the court as well so both hands are strong when it comes to dribbling. This drill is will help players develop great ball-handling skills while running down the court. The other team, the defense, will line up in 15-20 foot intervals all the way to the opposite baseline.
The defender will try to take a swipe at the ball and try to knock it away from the offensive player. The defender is stationary, so this will be the only defense that is allowed of this player. As soon as the first player gets past the first defender, the next player in line will begin. Dribble with the correct hand (if you are on the left side of a defender, dribble with the left hand).

Making youth basketball drills fun is an effective coaching tactic for keeping players motivated.
Today we’re going to talk about foul shooting, or free throw shooting, as a lot of people like to call it, and how you can teach your youth basketball team about it.
The foul shot is the one shot in the game of basketball that you have time to think about when you’re shooting it. Most players have the ability to increase your scoring average by two to three points per game just by being able to shoot a higher percentage free throw. The second thing your youth basketball players need to have for a perfect free throw are physical mechanics. Elbow in also means that the elbow, when you put it in position, should be inside the knee. When you learn to be consistent in how you shoot your free throw, you will then become perfectly consistent in how well you shoot your free throw. We want to eliminate negative thoughts as a player shoots a free throw by implementing positive thoughts and mental mechanics as they shoot the shot that will incorporate the physical mechanics and the rhythm and timing of a perfect free throw.

By going over these free throw fundamentals with your own youth basketball team, do you think your players will have a better understanding of how to approach the shot?
I like the idea of mental mechanic and one point I like to add is your shooting hand and figures on the ball.
While working out with a partner is ideal, many times we find ourselves in outside of ideal situations. There are some tricks of the trade that I’ve learned through my years, and one of my favourites is the concept of V-shooting. This drill can be exhausting, but is a great way to improve finishing ability, as well as upper body strength. Don’t forget to check our facebook page if you’ve got any questions or comments!

After slowing down and backing up just a bit, the player will then crossover and blow by the double team. If your players can understand the benefit of good ball handling, they will perform the drill with more vigor, and better results will be obtained. I may have revised one that I saw before but I have added a twist to it as the players get better.
I tell them the if after 3 shots are made and the next shot is missed the team has to start over at 1 at that spot. Basketball is a high-energy, fast-paced game that requires players to execute fundamental components of multiple facets, such as running, shooting and passing.
More close games are won or lost at the foul line than with any other skill area in the game of basketball. Teams have the ability to win another three to five games a year just by, as a team, being able to shoot 70% or better from the free throw line.
Physical mechanics involve your body balance and your body position, as well as the mechanics that you use with your arms and legs to complete the repetition of the free throw. When the ball makes contact with the front of the rim, the ball will impact to the rim and spin backwards away from the cylinder, keeping you from completing your free throw. You must have and maintain good follow-through in order to be a successful free throw shooter.
We’ve developed five words – like five fingers on your hand – that allow you to concentrate on the mental processes of the free throw. Players do not want the elbow directly above the knee in this set position or outside of the knee.
The reason we have players keep their knees locked in an elbow in position is so that when they come to the bend part of the free throw, their physical mechanics are identical every time they shoot the ball. This helps you at the completion of your free throw to focus all of your mental concentration on the physical act of backspin on the ball and following through with your shot. The free throw is the only shot in the game that a player takes where they have time to actually think about the shot.
As you say you have the time to set up for the shot and concentrating, so why not concentrate on the most important part of shooting, your hand and fingers at the foul line.
These following shooting drills are some of my favorites when you’re stuck on your own.

By shooting from a spot, grabbing the rebound, and running to the same spot, we use our own natural momentum, making it much easier on ourselves.
This is a drill he used to do when he was stuck alone, where he could maximize the number of layups and hook shots he could take in a small amount of time. Now he would go up with the outside hand, bringing the outside leg up as well, and laying the ball in off the glass.
You can also switch it up and work on reverse layups, or if you’re feeling really confident, start with a ball in each hand, focusing on finishing and catch the ball with the same hand and keeping it cocked at that shoulder high position as you go up on the other side.
If this drill gets too easy for your players, add a couple more stations, possibly a real defender at a given station, etc. You should say the words to yourself as you’re conducting the physical mechanics of the free throw at the same time. In either one of these cases, it’ll force a player to possibly finish with their arm shooting to the side. In the course of a game, most shots are a reaction or an action that occurs in the flow of the game.
Now as the ball went through the hoop, he would catch it, keeping it above his head, and step over with the inside foot, bring the outside hand and foot up again, putting in the layup on the other side.
Integrating basketball drills that keep the game fun in practice will help improve players’ ability to execute fundamental aspects of the game and also teach them the value of teamwork. We prefer that you line up your right foot, if you’re right-handed, on the middle nail hole.
By having your elbow in, when a player completes their shot they will finish in a straight line with their toe, their knee, their elbow and the ball to the back of the rim.
Hand and fingers r the key to any type of shot ( I seen many shots made on off balances or fad-away shots that only proves to me your hands control the shot). Throw the ball out in front of you with plenty of back spin, and as you run out it will bounce back in your direction as you come up to the spot.
It has a great conditioning aspect to it and has proved to be one of our most effective quick guard workouts. A team member from each group begins the drill with possession of a basketball at the free throw line facing opposite the basket. The other five group members form a semicircle behind the free throw line with one member holding another ball.
The drill begins when the player facing opposite the semicircle turns to throw a chest pass to a teammate not holding a ball. The player holding a ball in the semicircle then throws a chest pass to the team member in the “shotgun” position. This drill continues for two minutes before players rotate clockwise, allowing for a new team member to assume the “shotgun” position. Basketball golf a fun shooting game that teaches players how to shoot from a variety of different spots on the court. The shooter’s objective is to make all nine shots before reaching par, which varies depending on skill level.
Basketball golf ranges in difficulty, depending on the distance of each “hole.” The drill can also emphasize different types of shots, like standard jump-shots, spin-outs and bank shots.
