In any case, does anyone here have experience with the cheaper import models? I imagine that the tool’s $40 pricetag is quite attractive, but for just a bit more, a refurbished Dremel version can be found for $55 or so. Since I can’t justify or afford the Fein version of these tools, maybe, just maybe the Genesis version is a good starting point. I have the HF version as well and the way i look at it (like the other posters), is that its a cheap investment into a tool that could be very useful for specific applications and i wont care if it breaks! I purchased the Genesis oscillating tool about 6 months ago when renovating a basement bathroom. I bought the Rockwell sonicrafter and it lasted a few minutes and won’t turn on at all now.
I have bought two of the HF variable speed units and used them in our work and they have held up fine. The cheap easy method is an expanding rubber oil drain plug available at your local advance, pep boys, auto zone, etc. They look something like this (middle one)But a Helicoil or Time-sert thread repair kit is just as easy. I am interested in the helicoil but I am afraid there is not enough metal to drill and tap through , what do you guys think? A little tip for when you snap the "tang" off the helicoil is magnetize your punch that you use to hit it then the tiny piece that breaks off will stick to the punch.
I believe the size you need is M10x1.25 (check to make sure!!)I was just wondering how do i check, take the screw to a store and check the size?
If you do use it leave it overnight to cure before installing the plug or you might glue the plug in too.
In reading through this thread (and many others), I am not sold on the heli-coils or time-sert.

Some are built by well known and reputable brands – Fein (the original), Rockwell, Bosch, Dremel, Ridgid, and Craftsman, but there are also generic branded import tools popping up at more and more retailers these days.
Made my own grout removal blade from the $5 HF 4″ diamond grit cutter blade for their mini-table saw.

I was changing the transmission fluid (the first time I have ever done this to this bike) and when I took the drain bolt out, the threads from the inside of the case just fell out, so now there is not enough threads to hold the bolt in place tightly. I have the same problem and chose the cheap easy method for now.and so far the cheap easy way is working?
The grease monkies at the oil change place overtightened the bolt one too many times and stripped it out.
I can probably just take the bolt down to Napa and have them match it to something on shef, but it would be great to have the info going in. All orders can not be returned or exchanged for the reason that you are not satisfied with the hair. If you reside in an EU member state besides UK, import VAT on this purchase is not recoverable. Works great on grout, okay on wood, and even goes through ceramic tile without noticeable wear.
Don’t see much point except for the straight plunge cutter, HF’s lasts about 5 minutes before the teeth are gone, though you could use a triangular file to create more!
