The gib is inspected for wear patterns and warpage. The surface of the gib that is stationary, need to be checked on the surface plate for flatness. The knee will have to be push tightly against the base dovetail, in order to remove any gap that may exist. Packaging should be the same as what is found in a retail store, unless the item is handmade or was packaged by the manufacturer in non-retail packaging, such as an unprinted box or plastic bag.
After this time we accept returns up to 30 days but only 80% of the transaction will be refunded to cover administrative and restocking fees. Import charges previously quoted are subject to change if you increase you maximum bid amount. There is only so much adjustment that is available, and to put the gib in the proper working range, it will have to be replaced or built up.
In this case the adjusting screw bottomed out, and there is still a gap between the dovetails. A new one was purchased which is longer and thicker than the original size. The original gib will be kept for future needs. If you reside in an EU member state besides UK, import VAT on this purchase is not recoverable.

The item must be in the original packaging, brand new and unused and in re selling condition.
The bow was reduced to .0015 in the middle by supporting it at each end followed by a light tap with a soft face hammer. The new ground gib, was left for a few weeks on the surface plate, then checked with feeler gauges for distortion.
I try to push the gib from the ends, using only a finger tip, rather than pressing down on the gib. If the item or packaging has been damaged we have the right to reduce the refund to cover cost. There may be a few extra moves to get it there, but a good view of the surface and scraping angle will make the job easier.
This allows you to scrape into that area and not have the blade banging around, along with removing the chance of an incorrect reading caused by interference from the base angle. It should be noted the gib is held in position by the wheel and slot, and if the adjusting screw binds, it may bias the gib position and create a false reading. All return postage cost will be at the customers expense and will not be refunded under any circumstance. I used my dovetail straight edge at first to show the initial contact points, because of the type of wear patterns and scaring of the angled surface. The scraping blade can be angled and reduced in size,  allowing easier working of the dovetail. The gib is then scraped to the surface plate to produce a flat surface on the stationary side. With the knee on a work surface, and using the dovetail master, the ground surface was found to have minimal number of contact spots. The straight edge showed 30% contact along the surface, from ends to end, indicating the surface was relatively straight. It should be noted the  fixed dovetail angle is relieved through the center section.

Remember light taps means light taps.                             Scraping the back face of the gib can be started. This early check will not show if the dovetail angle is correct to the angle of the base dovetail, or if the cross slide ways of the knee is 90* to base.
I will make a pass on both faces of the gib. The gib was then checked on the surface plate for more warping.
The next step is to load the knee onto the base and take a reading of the mating dovetails. Selecting the proper thickness of the build up material is important because of its costs, and the amount of work to fit the gib.
We would advise contacting the manufacture for any claims however you can send it back to us and we can sent it off to the manufacture but the postage will not be refunded. The working face of the gib will be scraped to remove wear, using the surface plate as the master, providing a flat surface to measure from. It is important to remember the gap for the gib will be larger then the original size because the knee and base dovetails have been reworked, as well as the back or non working surface of the gib.
The size of the new gap for the gib will have to be calculated, using the gib and feeler gauges.
The gib is set into place, and set flush with the top of the knee way surface. The gib adjusting screw will position the gib and hold it in place.
