Oats is a healthy way to kick start one’s day and I try to include it in our diet at least 3-4 times a week.
A couple of blog readers have been requesting for recipes using oats and I thought it would be a good idea to do a series of Indian oats recipes on similar lines to Chaat recipes that I did two years ago. Using oats in Indian style recipes can be quite tricky as it tends to have a sticky texture, so its a good idea to dry roast the oats for a few minutes before using it. Instant Oats Idli is a healthy Indian breakfast recipe with oats, rava, carrot, yogurt and spices. I have noticed that hardly any Indian recipes with oats have made it to the blog even though oats are an integral part of our morning breakfast routine. Satish and I prefer our Indian-ized oatmeal avatars – upma, rava dosa, instant rava idli, ponganalu, pongal, uttappam, roti, bisi bele bath and the likes.
I usually dry roast a packet of oats and store it especially for Indian style recipes with oats. I enjoy cooking for my family using fresh produce from my vegetable garden and farmer's market.
I cant eat oats with milk as I am lactose intolerant and I usually used to make oats poha but I loved this variation. I’m kick starting the series with a favorite breakfast of mine, Instant Oats Idli recipe.

Recently, after reading this post by Anuradha Goyal at her blog, the desire to go to food street reignited. So, we decided Saturday evening it will be!!We stay far, so, we started early and reached there by 5:00pm. Our first stop was Rajasthani Chat corner selling different types of chats, bhel puri, bhel papadi, cold chats, samosas, some special Gujarati and Rajasthani dishes, sweets, milk shakes, badam milk and numerous other items. After that we settled for 3 different kind of chats here Рmix chat, tokri chat and aaloo batata chat. We shared a plate of paddu and then a paper dosa (more than a feet long).Hot PadduLong Paper DosaThen we headed to the juice and ice cream center.

By this time, the street had got quiet abuzz with visitors and was getting crowded with every passing moment.
People had started hovering around their favorite joints and orders were flooding in at every single joint. By the division of the crowd, it was impossible to tell which food joint was better than the other, as each one had a huge crowd to cater. We were thinking what to try next when we discovered this unique hot potato preparation. A single potato was peeled into connected circles, fried, spices sprinkled on it and then was put on a kebab stick.
It had both spicy and non spicy versions available.Potato twist sticksAbhishek With Twisted potato stickWe were almost full by this time. Most of the food street shops don’t have much option to shelter the customers, so, we thought it would be better to head back now.
But the visit couldn’t have been complete without stopping at the infamous V B Bakery, which is a landmark at food street. We also got a couple of pieces of their honey cake for our toddler.By this time, it had started raining. With this, we started our journey back home, cherishing the everlasting memories¬†that were born in an evening well spent at food street, longing for more of the mouth watering delicacies it offered ?? We will definitely go again. If you happen to be in Bangalore and you are Indian street food enthusiast then you must give this street a try. I guess it’s not changed, as per the description you had provided in your post and what we saw there.
