Although most of the common herbs are from Mediterranean origins which prefer dry sunny growing conditions, there are some herbs which will tolerate or even thrive in damp or shady conditions. It is important to note that shady conditions under trees may not be damp, as the trees may draw up most of the moisture, leaving the ground dry. Growing bay leaf trees have been cultivated for centuries for their subtle flavor, aroma and medicinal uses. Growing bay leaf trees require a little patience as they are slow growing evergreens, although they may live for 40 years or longer and attain a height of 10 feet (or up to 23 feet in the wild).
Care of bay leaf trees is minimal when bearing in mind that Laurus nobilis is hardy in USDA zone 8, thrives in rich, well-drained soil (pH 6.2), dislikes overwatering and should be brought indoors when the temperature dips in the fall months. Care of bay tree leaf problems of this ilk require a strong blast of water to dislodge some of the marauders, followed by a treatment of insecticidal soap or neem oil. If no evidence of insects is to be found, another cause for black spots on bay leaves may be leaf spot disease. A bacterial or fungal infection such as phytophthora ramorum may additionally be creating sweet bay leaf spots.
All Spearmint seeds sold by Seed Needs are Non-GMO based seed products and are intended for the current and the following growing season. All seeds are produced from open pollinated plants, stored in a temperature controlled facility and constantly moved out due to popularity. SpearmintGrow a garden filled with the aromatic Spearmint herb, from freshly harvested Mentha spicata herb seeds. These fragrant plants are known to attract a few beneficial insects to the garden, such as bumblebees & honeybees.
Spearmint seeds are pretty tiny, so they are best established indoors, in a controlled environment. Spearmint can be more of a difficult herb to establish from seed, but they typically take anywhere between 7 and 28 days to germinate successfully.
Mammoth Dill.  This is the first time I have tried growing dill in my garden.  I just love the delicate little yellow flowers! Basil blossoms.  I pinch the blossoms off to encourage additional growth on my basil plants.

This list is by no means definitive, but will give you some guidance when designing or altering your herb garden. Sweet bay leaf spots may make one cringe regarding the wisdom of using them in culinary creations such as soups, stews, brines, shellfish boils and teas let alone for ornamental uses such as herbal wreaths, topiaries or potpourri. Their honeydew causes sooty mold, giving the appearance of black spots when growing bay leaf trees. Both insecticidal soap and neem oil are safe to use and can be easily rinsed off the leaves before using in food. Care of bay tree leaf problems caused by this involve primarily removing all the affected leaves and allowing the soil to dry between watering. Care of bay leaf tree problems of this type again involves removing any infected leaves from the plant and surrounding area and burn or seal in a plastic bag for dispatch.
Moving the plant from indoors back outside too suddenly may burn the leaves as may a reflection from glass indoors. Spearmint is also known to deter some pesky insects as well, such as the white cabbage butterfly, as well as mosquito's and fleas. They can thrive in areas of full sun or partial shade and require temperatures of at least 70F to flourish. The plants grow vigorously, to a mature height of about 2 feet tall, and again should be placed in containers or in a controlled area to prevent it from spreading into other areas of the garden. So let’s take a look at the causes and care of bay leaf tree problems, such as black spots on bay leaves. Several weekly applications may be needed to resolve black spots on bay leaves caused by insects.
Make sure the plant is not sitting in water and water at the base of the plant to allow leaves to remain dry. Take care to have leaves dry by mid morning, thereby discouraging a hospitable environment for spores to take hold. Always look into the simplest solution first such as too much sun or water or the need for repotting. They then use this root system to return the following Spring season, even after all plant life has wilted on the surface.

Scatter the tiny seeds directly to the surface of the soil, not covering them with any topsoil, since the will require light to germinate properly. The soil can be rich in organic matter, or poor and sandy, just make sure that it is well drained. The purple flowers will bloom several weeks after the plants are established, attracting many bumblebees & honeybees as well.
Mints, such as Spearmint, are known to be rather invasive at times, spreading through underground roots and runners.
The oils of Spearmint plants are often times used in invigorating remedies, to promote energy and alertness as well. Transplant your Spearmint herbs into larger pots or containers once the weather is warm and all danger of frost has passed.
To increase your drainage, we recommend adding a light compost to any areas that consist of hard, compact soil. Although chemical control is not usually warranted, if you do decide to spray, spring is the optimal time at bud break during the growing season in 12 to 14 day intervals. The leaves and oils are used to flavor toothpastes, candies, breath mints and most of all, chewing gum! This leads most herb gardeners to placing it in pots and containers to otherwise contain it's growth. If direct sowing outdoors, be aware that Spearmint can spread through underground runners, so sowing in pots, or a contained area is best. Growing to a mature height of roughly 2 feet tall, Spearmint will display dozens of bright green, attractive leaves, which are deeply veined. The seeds can drop to the bare ground beneath, often times establishing new plant life around it's already established parents.
