Sheds are incredibly useful and flexible, providing invaluable storage for your garden equipment and tools, alongside sheltered workspace for a variety of home, garden and DIY jobs. In this handy, step-by-step guide, you’ll learn how to build a shed using a kit, from laying the floor, to securing your shed once it’s complete.
Having a concrete floor for your shed will add stability, and provide a more durable, hard-wearing platform, helping to extend the lifespan of your shed – but it does require some additional work.
Once you’ve dug out the area, fill it with a 100mm layer of hardcore, then fence off the hole with the wooden shuttering.
NB – If you’re using a concrete base, you’ll need to affix the sides of your shed to a pressure treated timber wall plate, which can then be anchored to the concrete base using anchor bolts during fitting, to provide stability. Measure your shed, then take your six concrete blocks and lay them at each corner, and in the middle at either side of the shed. Now, lay your three fence posts on top of these blocks, creating a platform that you can screw the timber floor of your shed kit to. Do the same with the other two sides, so you have two connected pieces, then screw these together, and put them in place. If you’re working with a concrete floor, you’ll also need to secure the timber wall plate to the bottom of your sides at this stage. Although some sheds come with the roof felt already attached, you may need to do this yourself.
If your shed is made from untreated wood, you’ll want to apply a couple of coats of a good quality, water based preservative that will help to add aesthetic appeal and protect it from the elements. These are widely available from any DIY shop, and come in a range of colours to suit every taste. Unfortunately, shed break-ins are very common, so you’ll want to fit some security measures if you’re storing anything valuable inside.
Whilst a simple padlock may deter opportunists, you may want to consider making a wire mesh protector for your windows, and fitting an additional security bar to the door to prevent determined thieves. As an added precaution, we also recommend burring over the heads of your screws to prevent thieves from unscrewing them to access your valuables, and fitting a motion-sensitive light for additional protection.
Most of the tools needed to complete this DIY task can be found in the DIY tools section of our shop – all at fantastically low prices! These slimy pests present an ongoing garden battle as they can repair damage to themselves and hide during the day while chewing holes in plants by night. Snails and slugs can’t travel well over egg shells so after you crack those eggs, save the shells. Break them up and spread evenly around your vegetable garden, dahlias or other snail and slug-prone plants. It’s better if you wash off the egg shells first in order to prevent other pests from gravitating toward the mucus. Slugs and snails are the most active at night in damp conditions, meaning that they will thrive if you water in the evening.
This dust is the sharp, fossilized remains of algae that will lacerate the bodies of slugs and snails if crawled over, causing them to dry out.
Make sure to periodically check the position of tape, but it should last an entire season and can be found at garden supply stores.

Pile it around your snail and slug infested plants in excess–about 4 inches deep, because seaweed will shrink as it dries.
Some gardeners and experts argue that the most effective method of snail and slug control is to pick them off by hand.
Destroy the smelling capabilities of ants by planting mint around your home near doors and other possible points of entry. Since females can lay up to 500 eggs at a time, it’s best to keep these pests under control.
Even moving water has still spots that can be breeding grounds for mosquito, gnat and fly larvae. This natural bacteria may be purchased at a gardening store and is safe to use around fish, birds, other insects and pets.
The oil is a tried and true natural repellent to mosquitos, with citronella candles as extremely effective. Rosemary works too, but you’ll need to crush the leaves of both plants to release the odor, which mosquitoes hate. Studies have shown that neem oil can last up to 12 hours as a mosquito repellent, therefore, its application has been critical to fighting malaria in third world countries. Neem oil is a vegetable oil pressed from the neem tree, an evergreen from the Indian subcontinent.
This solution obviously depends on where you live, but homeowners nationwide are hanging bat houses outside (pictured above). Mites are typically difficult to see with the naked eye, but look for small  yellow or brown spots and webs.
They feed on the honeydew produced by aphids, so ants do what they need to in order to protect the source.
Buy a container at the local nursery, gather the kids and hope the lady bugs stick around to eat the aphids. These lovers of cabbage and other greens can kill plants by eating holes from the center of the leaves outward.
The worms hang out on the bottom of leaves, but if you spot the white butterflies (pictured above), you know there’s a problem. This prevents the worms from burrowing into the cabbage head, provided the stocking is tight around the base. Normally found on the bottom of leaves, whiteflies suck the life out of plants and can spread rapidly to others, if not contained.
Afterward, seal the vacuum bag in a Ziploc bag and put in the freezer overnight to kill the flies.
These traps can be purchased at garden supply stores and placed in planters or other areas where gnats and small flies are present.

Note: These ranges are simply Ball-Park Figures and can vary up or down depending on many factors. After deciding to install artificial turf, we are so HAPPY that we went with Install-It-Direct.
Can you give me a "Ball-Park Estimate," in regards to how much a Paving Stone Driveway Installation might cost?

Plan ahead, and consider your available space, along with what you’re going to use it for, before selecting the shed that’s right for you. First, you’ll need to dig an area 150mm deep for your base, making sure it is fairly level. Mix your concrete (1 part cement, 2 parts sand, 3 parts aggregate – or just buy a ready mix!), then lay a 100mm layer of concrete on top of the aggregate, using the wooden shuttering to keep it in place.
This should be fairly easy – it doesn’t matter which sides you start with, so choose two adjacent pieces, and screw or bolt these together. Then, you can screw it down to the timber floor or anchor it to the concrete floor using the anchor bolts.
The best way of fitting your shed roof is to fix these panels one at a time, using Spax screws, so you don’t have to waste time drilling pilot holes, and it provides a tight, secure fit.
Starting at the bottom of each side of the shed, lay the felt across the roof, and secure it in place using either bitumen based adhesive, or with some galvanised clout nails.
Make sure that you overlap the felt at the top, and not the bottom of the roof, (so the top piece overlaps the bottom), to help create a better, more watertight fit. Out of 5 other leading contractors Install It Direct offered the best product at the lowest price. Our salesman, Dustin, couldn’t have been more personable, accommodating and customer-friendly.
They went with a Brand Named Company for the back Patio and went with Install-It-Direct for the driveway. The only difference between the two projects was that the homeowner saved a lot of money the second go around by educating himself and selecting Install It Direct to complete his project.
Simply hang the door by either screwing in the hinges, or slotting it in place, and fix the windows in the holes provided. Ron explained the whole process and showed us samples of the turf and the filler which also helped us make our decision.
The actual installers were an excellent crew – well-equipped, courteous with good attitudes, hard-working and extremely conscientious.
I saw the same crew working on both projects, and noticed that they had different shirts on the second time around.
He also ended up with a much better design, as all of our consultants are Professional Designers as opposed to "Salespeople" looking for a BIG commission check. This particular sealer locks in the joints to help prevent weeds or any other growth from occurring between the pavers. Install It Direct is the best choice in San Diego if you want to have quality turf, low price and great customer service.
