American Preparedness is a Service Disabled Veterans owned business that has designed the 7204 emergency preparedness kit to support four people for 72 hours (three days). Call a family meeting and turn it into a scavenger hunt to collect all of your items throughout the next couple months or years. Several years ago I thought I would be proactive (since we live in tornado country) and put together 72-hour kits. Especially with a 3 year old, there are many things that would otherwise be forgotten in the time of an emergency if not for pre planning. I have been meaning to do this for quite awhile now – and now is the time to get started on it!!!! After seeing all the useful stuff you have in your bin, I’m now going to repurpose a large strapped duffle bag (rectangular and zippered) for getting organized.

I literally wake up every few months, in the middle of the night, thinking about putting one together. With double the nutritional provision of the 1 Person 3 Day Kit, blankets and lightsticks for two, and even more comprehensive first aid, the 2 Person kit is the premier kit for small household survival.
Many of these items you probably already have multiples of in your house and you can just grab the extra and throw it into your kit!  It doesn’t have to be brand name items and it doesn’t have to be overly-complicated, but there is a certain sense of peace that comes once this is completed and you know you are prepared! I think it’s a great idea and now that I have a great example to follow, I’m looking forward to getting my family involved in putting this together!! I am often overwhelmed when I think about prepping for emergencies (and where we live, it’s hard to feel much urgency! My daughter took a new one to school with her each year with a letter from me included explaining in the event of an emergency we’d come get her as soon as possible.
We do have an emergency kit, but my husband has so much stuff it’s in several different bins. Welcome to my little computer home where I share my family's adventures as we live life from the slow lane! Where I live we don’t get a lot of natural disasters, but there are wind storms and power outages. My start includes a multipurpose tool, moist towelettes, spare socks and a couple of rain ponchos.

In the past 10 years, more than 250 million people worldwide have been struck by some kind of natural disaster.A tsunami caused by an underwater earthquake in 2004 was the deadliest in history. For the water and food, it’s recommended that you have at least enough on hand for three days minimum. The 7204 contains enough food rations, water and other emergency supplies, such as emergency space blankets, flashlights, water-resistant radio with batteries and emergency ponchos to provide 4 people with the items needed to assist in surviving a natural or man made disaster. Portable chargers are also good, as those cell phone batteries won’t stay charged on their own indefinitely. During storm seasons, it’s also a good idea to always try to keep your gas tank topped off. They should also know that the safest place to find shelter during a tornado is in a building without windows and doors.
Safes are fireproof and waterproof, and usually heavy enough to stand their ground during the event of a tornado. Keeping your important personal items with you in your home is sometimes better than storing them at the bank, where they may not always be insured.Separating your items in multiple safes can be a clever way of securing your valuables in the event one is stolen.
