The survival-horror genre had a great 2014 thanks to videogames like Alien Isolation, The Evil Within and PT, the playable teaser for Silent Hills. First, let’s take a look at several games that are still worth checking out even if they did not break into our top five.
For new games, you can expect Soma, a PC exclusive game from the developer behind Amnesia: The Dark Descent. The second game from the Dead Island series should be releasing in the second quarter of 2015.
Until Dawn, which is expected to launch in the summer for the PlayStation 4, can be preordered with this link. Resident Evil HD will be made available on the 20th of January as a digital release for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. While Resident Evil HD is going to please old school fans of the series, Resident Evil Revelations 2 should provide a happy medium between new and old school fanatics.
The first episode of Resident Evil Revelations 2 launches on the 17th of February for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Vita and PC. After the success of Dead Island, Techland decided to create a new survival-horror intellectual property with Dying Light.
Dying Light is due to launch on the 27th of January on the two current-gen consoles (PS4 and Xbox One) along with the PC. Trove is an open-world voxel MMORPG featuring fully buildable and destructible worlds, much like Minecraft.
Trove goes over the changes to the gem system that came with the Mantle of Power, including the dev designs! Trove, refined over many months of updates on the PC version, now prepares to make its way towards an Xbox One and PS4 release.
Trove, Trion Worlds’ pioneering Voxel MMORPG today introduces its first major expansion with the launch of Mantle of Power. Trove has announced the arrival of the brood of Winter Dragons, headed by Galenor, Primarch of Permafrost. Northern Tool + Equipment, Generators, pressure washers, air compressors, power tools, trailers, heaters, stoves, food processing, go karts, and more! Another good thing about Oni, is that the game rewards you for exploring the level thoroughly. Another great hand to hand combo to do, is to kick an enemy, kick them again, the dash forward toward them and press forward + kick at the same time and do a throw. Oni is a great game and the graphics are good but the real fun is in the gameplay and fighting. This year is looking pretty good as well with a mix of releases that will appeal to all sort of gamers. In terms of ports to current-gen consoles, two open-world massively-multiplayer survival-horror zombie games, Day Z and H1Z1, should be coming to the PlayStation 4 in 2015. Visual novel fans can also look forward to Corpse Party: Blood Drive, the third and final game from the creepy trilogy, for the Vita. This won’t be the case with Until Dawn as the story will branch off based on what action you decide to take. In 2002, Capcom decided to give the revolutionary game a full remake on the Gamecube, adding stunning visuals that still holds up well by today’s standards along with other new elements like the terrifying crimson heads.
While the over-the-shoulder camera made famous by Resident Evil 4 is back, the second Revelations title also retains the creepy horror atmosphere found in the earlier games.
You can preorder the disc version, which includes all the episodes along with other extras, with this page on Amazon.

While the game still takes place from the first-person perspective, you will have more mobility thanks to the newly added free running elements.
The game will feature unlimited dungeon variations, harvestable resources, and a transdimensional home for all players.
What is interesting about the game, is that you are only able to carry one weapon at a time. There are oftentimes power-ups like healing hypo-sprays, and ammo clips, and even sometimes you can find energy force shields lying on the ground. The combat that you have with enemies is exciting because they might attack you by throwing you, or they may try and kick you in the shins to stun you.
Then follow up with a crouching kick attack which is like a tripping spin kick or else use the jumping somersault attack. So what are the top five of the best survival-horror games releasing in 2015 that you should be looking forward to buying?
The excellent State of Decay is also being ported to the Xbox One with the Year One Survival Edition. As a result, the adventure game should not only be fun to play by yourself but at parties with your loved ones screaming at you during every crucial decision. In the HD remaster, the company is adding 5.1 surround sound, widescreen ratio along with a refined (but optional) control scheme.
Not to mention that you will be able to play as Claire Redfield and Barry Burton for the first time in years.
There is also a day-night cycle where enemies become more deadly and active when the sun goes down, which should add a whole other level of intensity. Worlds will vanish or regenerate as quest objectives are completed, and player creations will appear and continue to shape the worlds of Trove as it grows and evolves over time. I think it is easily the best 3rd person hand to hand combat action game that isn’t a fighting game for the PC. You are on a mission to find out what is going one with a criminal Syndicate and the construction and distribution of illegal weapons. This makes the game more realistic than many 3rd person shooters that let you caryy a veritable arsenal.
But sometimes enemies will drop hypo-sprays which greatly increase your health, so it’s better to fight it out and see what items they drop. Remember you can weaken enemies that are running at you by shooting them a few times with the plasma rifle and then holstering your weapon and then punching them a few times. The sequel is much bigger than the original in terms of play area, which is now set in California, in addition to increasing the amount of co-op players to eight. Supermassive Games, the developer even went as far as to cast some Hollywood actors like Hayden Panettiere to add to the B-movie slasher film authenticity.
Needless to say, Resident Evil HD is shaping up to be the definitive edition of the classic game.
Add is the ability to team up with three other players and you should have an excellent game.
The civilian will usually talk to you and then when they are done talking they will more often then not, give you an item like a hypo-spray or an ammo clip. But I find the best strategy is to be offensive and use your special moves for crowd control. The overall best weapon in the game is the Mercury Bow because it’s an instant kill, but the standard pistol does good damage also.
This is extremely important to know in the stages where you need to run across an electrified area, because you need to jump over rings of energy quickly.

With the engrossing combat being streamlined as well, Dead Island 2 looks like an excellent follow-up. So since you can carry only one gun at a time you need to use your brain when you pick up a weapon. The throws are great because you not only hurt the enemy you are throwing, but you also damage bad guys that are unluckily in the way of the guy you’re tossing. The plasma rifle is good but, the enemies can dodge the plasma balls that come from your gun. It seems to work OK on windows Vista, but on my computer there sometimes are issues with the textures of the ground. She gives you mission objectives and helps you navigate to the different parts of the stage by updating your compass data. There is one move where you run at an enemy and throw them by doing an acrobatic flying-neck-snap attack. Be careful when using the Screamer Gun, because if you get too close to the tracking bullet, you can get killed by your own bullet. She has a very cute voice and she has pink hair and so Shinatama is a great addition to the game. All of the guns that use ballistic solid ammunition are able to be reloaded by the ballistic ammo packs (red ammo packs) that you find in the game.
This move hurts the guy whose neck you’re snapping and you also kick anybody who is nearby at the same time. So it’s best to use the Screamer Gun from a distance against enemies that are hard to get to. This works from everything from your basic pistol, to the sub-machine gun, to even the grenade launcher and sniper rifle. They will try to block your attacks and if you try to block too many of their attacks by standing still (that’s how you block, by standing and facing your enemy without moving) they will simply grab you and throw you.
It come out fast, and you do good enough damage to knock down your opponent, which you can follow up with a jumping somersault kick. The game is very cool because each of the different enemies have different looking attacks and throws.
The plasma rifle, the screamer gun (this is a cool slow moving heat-seeking weapon), and others like the Phase Stream Projector all use the energy ammo packs (Green Ammo Packs). As you progress through the game you unlock new fighting abilities, for example, the neck snap attack doesn’t come until later in the game. So whenever you find a gun, think for a second and ask yourself if it is really a weapon worth reloading, or do you want to use the ammo quickly and swap the gun later for a more powerful weapon.
This strategy is really helpful in later mission when you get to use the sniper rifle called the Mercury Bow. So if you are on a stage where you know there is going to be a Mercury Bow, then you should consider saving your ballistic ammo and forgo reloading weaker weapons like the Sub Machine Gun. Another tip is that when you fight an enemy, if you disarm them before they get a lot of shots off, there will actually be more ammo left in the chamber of their weapon.
So when you fight, try and use your jumping kick attack to quickly knock the gun away from an enemy.
