Novelis, based out of Atlanta, is the largest supplier of aluminum sheet to the auto industry, counting Ford, Audi and Jaguar among its clients. We already know that the 2015 Ford F-150 has a base price coming in at just $395 more than the 2014 model, despite all of the new standard tech and aluminum-intensive construction in the upcoming version. In the next decade, the auto industry will see an explosion in its use of aluminum to cut weight and increase fuel economy, according to a study from market analysts Ducker Worldwide cited by The Detroit News. Ford is making a big bet on aluminum with its new 2015 F-150, and it's possible that the decision will hurt the company financially, at least in the short term. With the introduction of the aluminum-bodied 2015 Ford F-150 (and the likely use of aluminum in future Ford products), Ford is looking to help its dealerships reduce costs related to repairing this more labor-intensive material. Despite having to share Ford's Detroit Auto Show stand with the hot new 2015 Mustang, the brand-new F-150 was arguably an even more important debut. Not only have we been told that the 2015 Ford F-150 is tougher, more durable and up to 700 pounds lighter than the current truck, Ford COO Mark Fields said it's also "CAFE-positive." That means, for the first time in the history of corporate average fuel economy standards, the F-150 would be a positive contributor on Ford's CAFE balance sheet instead of being a vehicle it needs to counterbalance with frugal offerings.
2015 Hyundai Sonata, 2014 New York Auto ShowEnlarge PhotoThe Hyundai Sonata has been a bold move—a bold move that has paid off. That brings us to this car—the 2015 Hyundai Sonata coming later this year after a world debut at the 2014 New York auto show. For the past four years, the Sonata’s daring, exaggerated shape has grabbed all the attention it could. As for performance, Hyundai’s tuned the Sonata’s four-cylinders for more responsive feel, but output dips slightly. The Sonata inherits a lot of the safety technology that’s arrived in the bigger Genesis sedan, including blind-spot monitors and adaptive cruise control. A new infotainment system comes to the Sonata, with different features at different trim levels. The 2015 Hyundai Sonata will go on sale early this summer; we’ll bring you a first drive in the coming weeks.

A brand new generation of the Toyota Highlander crossover made its debut at the 2013 New York Auto Show this morning, and with it came a new version of the popular Highlander Hybrid. The new Highlander is bigger and bolder than the model it replaces, now looking much more like a full-blown SUV than a crossover, though at the same time it promises to be more efficient. The non-hybrid models get a standard six-speed automatic and the choice of front-wheel or all-wheel drive, while the Highlander Hybrid comes exclusively with a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) and all-wheel drive. The hybrid’s all-wheel-drive system is based on a through-the-road setup where the gasoline engine powers the front wheels and the electric drive system is used for the rear wheels. Those figures are quite impressive considering the 2014 Highlander Hybrid offers seating for eight (seven when second-row captain’s seats are selected), more cargo capacity and increased standard features.
Production of the 2014 Toyota Highlander Hybrid will take place at Toyota’s plant in Princeton, Indiana. We'll bring you an update with the full details soon but in the meantime you can gather more details on the new Highlander from the in-depth preview on our sister site, The Car Connection. Ford's Fiesta sub-compact has gained three new packages, two for the interior and one for the exterior, for the 2012 model year.
It's owned by Mumbai, India-based metals company Hindalco, the world's largest producer of aluminum sheet, and company reps see the aluminum market and their place in it expanding.
Now the Blue Oval is finally giving us an idea of what that extra money actually buys customers, with the release of the appearance guide for its latest pickup. We are already seeing the lightweight metal show up extensively in luxury models from Europe, but with the impending launch of aluminum-intensive 2015 Ford F-150 (pictured above), North America is using it even more, as well.
After earning a record $8.6 billion in 2013, the Blue Oval does not expect to set another record in 2014.

All the controls have been reorganized and the swoop is gone, replaced by a horizontal look like the one on the new Hyundai Genesis.
Seven airbags are standard—and it seems a good bet that the Sonata will keep its top crash-test scores.
The exterior has grown in length by approximately three inches while width is increased by half an inch.
The two interior packages are the Race Red and Oxford White and offer a personalized appearance with two-tone colored components.
In June, Novelis' VP of global recycling forecast carmaker demand for aluminum sheet to increase five-fold by 2020. According to Automotive News, that's "largely attributable to F Series," says Bob Shanks, Ford's Chief Financial Officer.
Ford moved some 700,000 examples of its F-Series truck in 2012, making it not only the best-selling pickup truck, but the top-selling vehicle in the US, by a long-shot. It’s a more sober take that might actually age better than the more flamboyant car that was introduced back in 2011.
With the optional navigation system, the Sonata can stream Pandora and can record up to 22 minutes of satellite radio—and it integrates with Apple’s Siri Eyes Free. A little bit longer and wider, the 2015 Sonata has a more subtle take that seems more tailored, but maybe a little less modern.
Hyundai’s also beefed up the Sonata’s body under the skin and says it’s turned up the handling in the sporty direction while also making the Sonata quieter on the highway.
