Make some home made moon sand with this easy recipe for a wonderful sensory play experience for kids!
We are big fans of sensory play and like to try as many different homemade recipes as we can! We have used commercially produced Moon Sand once and were not that impressed as it seemed to get everywhere and was a nightmare to clean up. Then we added small scoops, spades, sand moulds, buckets and any loose materials they chose for decorations. You can buy play sand at early learning centres, Asda, Tesco etc but may not be stocked over winter. Play sand is sand for use with children usually available in toy shops like toys r us, early learning centre etc. Rebecca, I guess you can do with any sand… And if no sand available i guess flour might also do the trick. Craft stores like Michael’s sell colored sands in any color you like, no paint or dye needed and no stained hands!
This mango bread uses pureed mango instead of the mango chunks that are more commonly used. For many years here in Hawaii, in place of a pine Christmas tree, we’d go to Frankie’s Nursery in Waimanalo and pick out a fruit tree. I made mine with a mix of cassava flour and cornmeal with a small amount of ground flax for good measure.
Eating healthy has changed my body, my energy level, my overall health, and my quality of life. Here is one of my favourite chocolate cake recipes which is suitable for kids (and big people) who are wheat or gluten intolerant. Luckily for me, my parents and my in-laws happened to be in town this past weekend to celebrate my son’s Birthday.
I used linguine pasta because I love the thickness and texture of the flat noodles, but this will pair well with any pasta, really. Pasta with Light Avocado Cream Sauce   Print Pasta tossed in a Light Avocado Cream Sauce = the best pasta dinner ever!

Using just 3 simple ingredients, it can be formed and moulded, used to make impressions and cut out shapes and makes the best sand castles ever! I’m always surprised at how easy they are and typically they use just a few everyday ingredients. This recipe however, turned out much more like the fun Cloud Dough recipe we have used lots of times and makes similarly awesome sand castles and moulded shapes! You will need to use your fingers to thoroughly mix the colours, like making breadcrumbs or pastry. The moon sand was left out in our table with the lid on and dried out to a sand like consistency after 2 days.

It’s a clean and hygienic alternative to beach sand, which could contain all manner of nasty stuff! It’s everything I’m looking for in a mango bread – moist, a deep mango flavor, light texture and rich taste.
I like the puree better because every bite tastes of mango instead of getting a bit of mango flavor when you happen to hit a mango piece. We liked adding a fruit tree to our garden and avoiding the rush to snag a pine tree in Hawaii before the container shipments all ran ou. I do know that if you use all coconut flour you’ll need to up the coconut milk because coconut flour absorbs a lot of liquid.
Since I love great tasting food, I've worked hard at making healthy and delicious go together.
Let’s celebrate the gorgeous green of avocados and throw a party serving food that’s green! So I hosted my very own dinner en green party featuring, you guessed it, California Avocados! Its the first time IA?m on an english food blog and itA?s very interesting to see the difference to the german food style. She begged me to do Reading Eggs with her and thought me quizzing her with alphabet flashcards on a nightly basis was a special treat before bed. We decided to add some colour and glitter to ours to add a little more  ZING  and it turned out beautifully! This would be fantastic to add some bicarb and vinegar inside to make pretend eruptions with, maybe we will do this next time we use it.
We will either add water again to revive it or mix it into our regular sand pit for a colourful addition!
The little spindly fruit tree held about 10 ornaments and could only stay inside for about a week before it started to suffer sun-withdrawal. The finer the ingredients the finer the cake (try using an Organic stone ground flour next time you bake a cake).
In a nutshell, it’s a big party where everything is white on the dinner table and everyone comes wearing all white. Youa€™ll find her sharingA healthier, budget-friendly, family-friendly, and easy dishes withA some yummy desserts thrown in, too! If it doesn’t hold together when formed in a ball then add a tiny bit more water until it feels right. Baby played happily too, filling and emptying containers and using the sand moulds with a little help. You could try adding liquid, waiting a bit to see how much gets absorbed and then adding more until the batter seems like thick batter consistency. Well, those of you that know me know that I’m a little shy when it comes to entertaining.
I have to admit that I was nervous that the combo of spinach and avocado would be a little boring. She listened intently and lapped up everything I taught her.And then came along little sister.

As a result, we now have a mango tree as well as lemon, lime, guava, grapefruit, orange, starfruit, and lychee trees.
For months now, as we wait for them to ripen, we’ve had to avoid hitting them with our car. When she turned three, I attempted to teach her the alphabet in the same way I’d taught her sister.
She’d shown a mild interest in learning the letters of her name, so I thought she was ready. She may have been ready, but not for the same methods I’d used for her sister. The sapodilla tree made sad little tasting sapodillas and died, and the lychee tree has gotten huge but has never flowered.
She would not sit still for flash cards and as for Reading Eggs, I couldn’t even get her near the computer. Add butter (or coconut oil), eggs, yogurt (or coconut milk), and vanilla to mango puree in bowl and mix to combine.
If she doesn’t want to do something, no amount of cajoling or bribery will change her mind.I told myself she’d learn when she was ready. I used brightly coloured foam letters, but if you try a water version of this game you will need plastic onesA4 alphabet sheetHide letters of the alphabet in a large container of rice. Bake for approximately 55-60 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean when inserted into the center. Ask your child to call out the letter when they find one and place it down on the corresponding letter on a sheet of paper.I used uppercase letters in the rice and lowercase letters on a sheet of paper to make this game trickier. Not only did she have to recognise the upper case letter, but she had to find its lowercase partner on the sheet of paper.
Give your child a giant flash card to copy or simply write down a letter for them to follow.
We used a sparkly ball, but you could hide any of their little toys or a treat, anything that will give them a surprise and put a smile on their dial. You can turn this into a fun circus or sideshow alley game to build excitement.
Once you’ve hidden something under a cup, ask your child to open their eyes and guess which cup you’ve hidden it under.
Ask your child to say the name of the letter on the cup before you reveal what is underneath. Hide letters in your garden or inside your house and encourage your child to say the name of the letter when they find it.
To make the game more advanced, you can ask your child to make the sound of the letter also.
I used brightly coloured foam letters to make them stand out among the greenery in our garden. Ask your child’s siblings to join in for some friendly competition.Bonus activityThis activity is great for kids who love art and craft. She’s mum to a five-year-old wannabe ballerina and a three-year-old tearaway with a smile that won’t quit.
