Digging deeper into the order data, 90% of these repeat orders are for larger order sizes than the first and having asked select customers randomly, we find that they’re usually buying for family members. I noticed a huge improvement in my energy levels and my skin, also a lot less bloating as well, and just in general a happy tummy.
For those interested in lots more background, here’s a list and quick summary or excerpt of posts thus far, in chronological order of posts by myself and Karl, since the beginning. The first of my posts introducing Elixa, along with comparisons to various other probiotics I’ve used. An introduction to Karl Seddon, the founder, and manufacturer of Elixa in Manchester, UK, and how he became very interested in the human gut microbiome by living (and eating) in Uganda, where people tend to get a whole lot of prebiotics via food. One thing its creator, Karl Seddon, is happy to do is to interact personally with customers via email. Here’s a back-&-forth between Elixa’s creator, and Wilber, a commenter who’s a fiber menace to society. Being the manufacturer and having awareness grow primarily online is a golden pairing that perhaps wasn’t possible a decade or two ago. In this article, I shall share my thoughts on one of the most commonly self-diagnosed conditions: SIBO. Then I’ll present an alternative conclusion for both observations; changing the implications entirely. What many report is that while the effects subside, they are left better baseline than before.
Some of the best feedback I get is from customers who bought one time and never need to take it again. The diet that is consumed after finishing Elixa is a key determinant of how permanent the effects are.
I first took Elixa last year, in a previous iteration of the formula, when Karl was using Rice Starch.
However, I purchased a 24 day set of the new formula, and now Elixa sends me into an arthritic flare within 3 days of taking it. I did take note of what you said here, however I want to be 100% sure that you are also experiencing this from potatoes eaten as normal? It usually takes longer for the inflammation to build up, when I am eating potatoes (a week or so, by my trials), but yes, same reaction.
It will be interesting to see how you react to future permutations with the same excipient (PS) but different bacterial species.
Now I know, that pain in response to nightshares, specifically potatoes means you are missing something. I was very excited to try Elixa after reading the testimonials from yourself and in the comment sections of a lot of your articles but I unfortunately had a pretty bad reaction to not one but two separate 6 day programs.
Yes I took Elixa first thing in the morning (6am last meal usually around 7pm) with nothing but a large glass of water. Other than taking Elixa I made no other changes to my diet which I make no claim to be perfect but usually consists of something like oatmeal for breakfast sandwhich for lunch and usually a slightly more indulgent dinner with fruits and veggies mixed in but try to keep things pretty simple.
Both were several hours of extreme discomfort, tension, undulating cramps and bloating shortly after substantial doses of PS.
Unfortunately here in Brazil there’s is a lot of burocracy for everything and things just go too slow! Incredible energy boost; no nap for the day yet, even baked a clafouti for the wife and me.
Please let me know how things progress as you come to the end of the 6 day course – either on here or via email.
I'm Richard Nikoley, and this is my blog. Free the Animal began by a different name in 2003, and as of 2016, contains over 4,000 posts and 100,000 comments from readers.
Free the Animal really means to free yourself to reach your best potential in all areas of your life, learn from mistakes and successes, and move on. Being the manufacturer of Elixa and having the awareness of the product grow primarily online is a golden pairing that perhaps wasn’t possible a decade or two ago. In the past, the consumer goods business was more about creating a finalised product and then convincing people that this is what they need and contriving all marketing to the various features of the product, despite the fact that some of those features were either purely incidental, for an ulterior purpose (logistics, manufacturing, storage), or determined by the available technology at the time.
But fortunately I’ve been saved from that necessity because the results of this increase in gastric resistance have been so evident that I receive regular emails and blog comments stating that some users can see the capsule shell in their stools from time to time. While we can’t know for sure where exactly the blend disperses for everyone, everytime – this would have to be established on a person-to-person, event-by-event basis via use of scintography – I am extremely confident that it disperses further along the gastrointestinal tract than Mk1 did. For anyone wondering, when we talk about trace humidity we are talking about the occasional molecule of water passing across a barrier.
A huge portion of the effect of a probiotic supplement is determined by the species of bacteria you have within the blend. The current state of the art is nothing in comparison to what is coming in the next few years.
Like I said, they are useful for certain things and are also helpful during the manufacturing and encapsulation process to make a stable blend. Am I saying this is undeniably an improvement for everyone, regardless of their pre-existing microbiota?
But remember that how a probiotic affects you is a function of the specific blend combined with your specific incumbent microbiota (the pre-existing flora in your gut).
I think that expanding the range of species in the blend is likely to increase the range of dysbiotic flora that it can target due to the increased variety of competitive mechanisms and bacteriocins that will be produced. This is usually proposed as a method of improving their transit by acting as some kind of protective taxi ride through the GI tract.
I have not incorporated RS2 for its prebiotic attributes for the gut microbiota as a whole. As the capsule begins to disintegrate, somewhere along the digestive tract, fluid enters the capsule and mixes with the dry powder. Elixa delivers 50x more beneficial bacteria per dose compared to the average probiotic supplement – Half a Trillion CFUs per dose! When healthy, they provide immense support to our digestive function, immune system, skin health, and mental wellbeing. A combination of antibiotics, processed food, and a modern stressful lifestyle can wreak havoc on your intestinal flora. To restore your gut to optimal health we must reintroduce some of the beneficial strains and species of bacteria that have been reduced in your digestive tract.
Countless probiotic supplements contain bacteria and yeasts that are not adapted to reside in the human gut. Almost all other probiotic supplements recommend taking the product continuously for months on end. The beneficial bacteria will get to work within 3 days of you beginning your Elixa program.
2) Next they will begin to grow in numbers and occupy more and more space on your gut wall.
3) Thirdly, they will start to produce beneficial substances for your gut and reduce numbers of bad bacteria by creating natural chemicals toxic to these pathogens.
The main advantage of Elixa (and the true test of how effective it is at targetting the underlying cause) is that once you achieve relief from your symptoms (by transforming the health of your gut rather than using medicines to mask individual symptoms) the results will maintain themselves.
All the probiotic strains that we use are adapted to live in the human large intestine and maintain themselves once a sufficient population has been established. Elixa is a 6 day program of high strength probiotics to help you achieve optimal gut health. For people who are serious about achieving the highest levels of gut health as rapidly as possible, we recommend the double pack –  taken over 12 consecutive days. We recommend repeating the program whenever you feel like your healthy bacteria may be in need of a top-up!
Magnesium Stearate (Used to aid flow of powder within blending and capsules filling machinery. The potato starch is present to provide the benefits of resistant starch with regards to probiotic adhesion and to keep the capsule contents completely dry from atmospheric moisture, ensuring that the bacteria remain in their stable, freeze-dried state until consumption. Please note that these times are only approximate and vary based on the efficiency of your country’s customs and postal service once it reaches your mainland.
I was going to just update that last post in that list, but since this is now my exclusive focus for a while, and I need to get something fresh on the blog, let’s just do a richer article.
How about fresh egg salad on Beckmann’s whole grain German farm bread, with emphasis on fresh? Filed Under: General Please consider supporting this Blog by CLICKING HERE whenever you shop Amazon. Are there any stories of customers who have seen long-standing conditions clear up without having to continue to take the Elixa on a permanent basis? Hi Karl or Richard, one quick question – does Elixa contain Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG (ATCC 53103)?

There are a large number of testimonials that I have received pertaining to permanent or long-term benefit. I can understand that you are interested in this strain because it is a heavily researched strain of Rhamnosus.
What this means is that a study showing benefit of a particular strain may be more due to the species or genus of that bacteria.
Personally, I believe the majority of the therapeutic differences to be determined at a species and genus level.
The reason why one strain may be more heavily researched is due to the fact that it has (A) featured heavily in prior work, and (B) it has had a TM name applied to it and therefore at least one party has an interest in having that exact strain researched heavily.
If your keep posting ancetodal evidence about the amazing supplement Elixia, I think I might even be sucked into it. The recent re-opening of sales completely wiped out all inventory there and now I have another shipment on the way. Side note, what’s the deal with the recent influx of idiotic commenters slamming your site and trying to be witty? Should you put your thumbs in your ears, wagging your fingers one more time, while moving your tong from side to side, I’m going to have to invoke the no-4-year-olds rule.
Despite me being a believer that the majority of those conditions stem from dysbiotic origins, the current state of the art is not good enough to rely on for conditions as developed as arterial disease, renal insufficiency, and insulin resistance. It’s surprising how much of the feedback I receive comes from people who initially contact me with a question. My 14yr old son recently had surgery for an ingrown big toe nail…uhg watching a needle go into his big toe almost made me faint.
Taking probiotics after a course of antibiotics is well-founded logic and it certainly would not hurt. Hey Karl, I have 2 questions: I have two 6-day kits lying around, one expires July 10th 2017 and the other one on July 23rd 2017. I would not recommend taking prebiotics *during* the Elixa course, unless you are already taking and experiencing benefit from them. People have such a varied response to prebiotics that it is hard for me to blanketly recommend anything specific.
All of which would be determined by the incumbent microbiota prior to introduction of the prebiotics. I’ve been writing about it for a year and a half, have made decent money from it, and it seems to be enjoyed by lots of people.
I suffered with difficulties in digestion, stomach pains and discomforts food for many years. These two factors present an exciting combination because (1) being the manufacturer gives me the ability to tweak and upgrade the product at an unprecedented turnaround time steered by… (2) feedback from anyone in the world at light speed and the ability to be involved with discussions in a forum that anyone can get involved with. This will sound familiar to a lot of you who’ve given consideration to this and been following the topic.
I shall list the two most common observations that people make to arrive at their self-diagnosis. This is what Karl intended, he always saw it as an intermittent, big dose, so you know it does something (for most, not all), and leaves you better off downstream. I’m Brazilian and a longtime reader of your blog (btw, thanks for the posts on resistant starch, it helped me tremendously). I avoid nightshades for this reason, and I found later that the new formula uses potato starch rather than rice starch, which might explain my reaction to it. There are alternative excipients I can use, but the potato starch granule structure has some advantages over the rice starch granule.
I know that Elixa’s success depends on the condition of your gut microbiome going in but I experienced severe gas, bloating and general abdominal pressure both times I attempted the 6 day courses.
Just thought I’d share my experience not to disparage Elixa but just in case anyone you might have a suggestion for someone in my situation. I’ve just finished my first course and the bloating and discomfort has reached epic proportions! I cover a lot of ground, blogging what I wish, from health, diet, and lifestyle to philosophy, politics, and social issues.
These two factors present an exciting combination because (1) being the manufacturer gives me the ability to tweak and upgrade the product at an unprecedented turnaround time steered by… (2) feedback from anyone in the world at light speed and the ability to be involved with online discussions that anyone can get involved with. I called the first update Mk2 and the second update Mk3, to distinguish between updates to the capsule (MkXX)and updates to the blend (vXX). Firstly, we now utilise a baking process for the capsules (prior to insertion of the probiotic blend) to reduce humidity within the capsule shell.
The tubes used before these sachets were, for most intents and purposes, a total barrier also.
We’re not talking about visible water or any kind of dampness that a human could detect. You can put them at the bottom of the Mariana Trench and they’ll be dry as a bone on the inside. There are so many entire genera that we have not even utilised in probiotic supplements yet. The most significant upgrade comes from a reduction in the Lactobacillus genus and a great increase in the Bifidobacterium genus in the finished blend. Potato starch is a popular form of resistant starch (RS2) which has been demonstrated to have good adhesion qualities for probiotic bacteria.
This rehydration begins the process of re-animating the bacteria and allows the potato starch to become easily adhered to and metabolised. This is, at the least, a more hospitable environment for them to wake up to from their hibernation – as opposed to being thrust into a potentially bacteriolytic, quagmire of inedible substances if they were unlucky with the location of capsule disintegration along the GI tract.
They must be grown, freeze-dried, encapsulated, and packaged – All with extreme care.
The short-course approach delivers potent amounts of beneficial probiotic bacteria to your gut each day for the duration of the program. That’s Half a Trillion CFUs, versus the conventional average probiotic only containing 10 Billion CFUs. That is why our multi-strain blend contains a huge range of 12 different probiotic strains, all taken from the most well-studied genera: Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium. This unique 5-stage process was pioneered by our founder after completing his degree at the University of Oxford, where he studied Biomedical Engineering during his Masters’ degree.
For example – during and after antibiotic usage, during and after a stomach bug, and after any excessive consumption of alcohol or junk food.
Begin with hot tap water, bring to a boil, shut off heat, let sit for 2-3 minutes, kill it with cold tap water. I’m looking to try and hone in on one particular condition and target that for some clinical trials in the future. Your ingredients only stated Lactobacillus rhamnosus (or does this mean it contains all strains of Lactobacillus rhamnosus?).
Some are more prevalent than others in an healthy human gut and the ratios and strains will reflect that more closely as the technology progresses.
Ironically, providing a customer with a significant and long-term benefit appears to be an excellent way to build repeat custom! Ideally (in the future) Elixa will be a one-time thing and then you’re good to go until you hit any major hiccup such as food poisoning, antibiotics, binging on alcohol and junk food, etc. Even 4-5 years ago I had a theory that one of the ways it worked was due to its significant effect on mucosal membranes, such as the lips (which are present in the large intestine also). If they don’t like the gut bug science and your experimentation with Elixa (and, *GASP*, you possibly making money off your site), why don’t they just STFU and skip this blog? I debated on posting this question in the resistant starch area but perhaps it belongs here. Yes, I’m doing my best from here (Germany) to guide my parents in terms of dietary intervention. I ordered a ubiome test and some elixa myself today, will be interesting to see where my biome is at, been struggling with IBS and plenty of food intolerances for years. He had the same surgery last year on his other foot…pulled out a ? piece of nail that was embedded into his toe. As long as they are not in an uncomfortably warm environment, the humidity and O2 ingress is so low that the blend is highly stable. If you are, I would recommend separating consumption of the prebiotics from the Elixa dose by at least 2-3 hours. After taking Elixa it went away in about 5 days (at least a couple of inches around the waist) and so did a bloated, stuffed feeling. Not sure whether both are connected, but they’ve been problems for months and stopped shortly after beginning your 6-day cleanse. Indeed, purchasers in comments here have attested to seeing the two undigested capsule halves in their stools.

It makes a tonne of sense on paper, and you’ll be nodding to yourself, saying ‘Yup, this is what we’re after.
Demand is now so high they’ve established distribution centers in Illinois, Nevada, and New Jersey. The stools became looser and had noticeable increases in volume along with a healthy odour not disimilar to compost heap. That said, if Karl ever comes out with a version that uses rice starch again as opposed to the potentially inflammatory potato starch, I will be throwing my money at him.
I’ve emailed Karl to ask for his recommendation about continuing with another course to see if this is just a result of having a seriously screwed up biome (which I know I have).
I never had a prob with Elixa or any other probiotic but way back when I started with prebiotics, particularly potato starch, I had two incidents. Have been doing intermittent fasting for a couple of months now (only eat during a 7-hour window daily). I celebrate the audacity and hubris to live by your own exclusive authority and take your own chances in life. Demand is now so high they've established distribution centers in Illinois, Nevada, and New Jersey.
People have used Elixa according to many different protocols and for a huge range of conditions – many of which I had no idea the first iteration would help with. These occurred back in August (2015) and I didn’t go into detail about what they were at the time, so I will do that here. Although both genera can produce d-lactate as a metabolite, cases of excessive d-lactate production are almost always characterised by an excess of the Lactobacillus genus (see cases of Short Bowel Syndrome as examples). So, despite a decrease in overall Lactobacillus CFU, I decided to incorporate 2 additional species from the Lactobacillus genus: L.
I do not think that the quantities of RS2 involved would make the prebiotic effect significant on a gut-wide scale. The latter being a popular form of resistant starch (RS2) which has been demonstrated to have good adhesion qualities for strains of Bifidobacteria. If you’re already knowledgeable about probiotics and know that Elixa is right for you, we recommend the double pack! For those of you on antibiotics or suffering from IBS, you can check out our 4-pack. We always recommend first-time users of Elixa to take their 6-day program over 6 consecutive days, without breaks in the program.
Elixa is completely stable at room temperature for many months, therefore, there will be no loss of quality for any location or transit time. Her response to it was incredible and she thanked me for finding the one thing that helped her live a more normal life again.
All three sets will be a single uBome and then, a uBiome and American Gut in the same sample, to test the testing, too. You see, we get a huge number of repeat sales – but not because Elixa is required continually.
As my mindset moved more and more towards thinking many conditions were related to the gut, I thought that perhaps this effect on the mucosal membranes was causing a modification to the microbiota existing on them within the large intestine.
My point is just that, without comparisons to other strains of the same species within the exact same experiment, it can’t be concluded that this strain is superior to other strains of that species.
I guess not, but they’ve been sitting on the shelf for nearly 2 months now and I just want to be sure. Whereas for the other it may be cumulatively worsening their dysbiosis and the side-effects (e.g. Today I am a regular consumer I repeated the cycle every 2-3 months, and I can see changes in my health at the end of each. The categories can be viewed simply such as: fruit, whole grains, starchy vegetables, cruciferous vegetables, dairy, etc.
Likewise, my half-decade long depression began to lift, as well as years-long constipation issues.
The other thing is that both incidents were while vacationing in Tahoe, several months apart.
I’ll describe them in an objective manner and you can judge whether they are improvements or not.
This implies a much later dispersion of the blend within the GI tract if the shell is making it all the way to the exit without having completely disintegrated!
So to pack the same CFU with a reduction in d-lactate output, Bifidobacterium should be increased.
A hundred or so people in the UK have already tried it and the feedback has been almost entirely indicative of an improvement across the board, versus the v1 blend. With a strength of half a trillion CFUs (that’s 500 Billion!), this is an entire probiotic army. Without the bacteria making it intact, all the way from the culturing facility to your large intestine, a supplement would be useless. All you need to do is take one daily dose in the morning, on an empty stomach, for 6 consecutive days! If you wish to take probiotics on a regular basis then there is no harm in taking Elixa as frequently as you desire. She had a sinus infection and was prescribed antibiotics and her symptoms began to return and after another round of Elixa, she felt relief again. People will tend to buy one or two packs, see a significant benefit and proceed to buy another few to drive home the maximum benefit they can get out of it. It is not a theory that I have pursued in detail but I am aware that the standard mechanism of action is not fully defined for isotretinoin and it would not surprise me too much if there was a significant microbiotic change in users of accutane. The last time I used Elixia I noticed the skin at my elbows got very dry at around the same time.
I did notice a slight improvement in skin condition and mood and a huge reduction in bloating after meals. I generally keep to a low-starch diet to avoid said flares, though my original run with Elixa allowed me a bit more leeway in that. Tried the potato diet for a few days and got a bit too light headed for comfort; may attempt that again having only potatoes for lunch. However many substances will contain a certain trace amount of moisture and the baking process removes that. Having the blend deposit closer to the large intestine and further away from the stomach is a core aim of any probiotic delivery system. Having said that, they were 1.5mm thick and you’d probably have to have them in a pressurised steam room for months to measure any difference! Lactobacillus are particularly common because they are not as sensitive to oxygen compared to other intestinal flora. Some species have useful roles to play, but Lactobacilli are not the backbone of a healthy microbiota (and no one genus is). Many reasons, including the exclusive use of the bifid shunt metabolic pathway, leads to the conclusion that Bifidobacteria has a lot more mileage for improving the health of the gut versus Lactobacillus.
It’s been a long time since a health product has matched my expectations, nevermind exceeded them like this!
Once every month or two is a good aim, for those who wish to continue taking probiotics regularly. I am hoping the fibre in the hemp meal will provide a good environment for the Elixa mix to flourish.
My physique looks a lot better since I don’t look pregnant anymore (which is not a good look for a man!). The benefits waned somewhat after I’d finished a set, but still, it was a huge change for me after years of joint pain, depression, unexplained constant IBS. Looking forward to continuing the Elixa and if results stay positive will place another order soon.
This results in a reduction in humidity ingress (once again – we’re talking trace amounts) from the capsule shell into the powder blend inside the capsule. In any case, be assured by the knowledge that I use every means at my disposal to keep the Elixa packaging several steps ahead of the average supplement packaging on the market.
All overseas orders are despatched by rapid airmail to get your Elixa to you as fast as possible.
Some customers choose to take multiple programs in the first month if they feel they need to correct a more serious gut bacteria imbalance to begin with. Oh, Karl answered every question I had via email promptly, which is also pretty amazing for a company CEO to do. Rehydrating the bacteria prematurely is the main factor that affects the difference in viable CFU count of a probiotic between time of manufacture and time of consumption.
