Right from my inbox … lately, I’ve been getting a ton of questions for all types of freelancers – senior citizens wanting to start, newbies having a hard time getting off the ground, and experienced ones wanting to branch out into other things (eg, hybrid freelancing). DON’T do anything after you get your website set up – until you get your first (or perhaps your third or fourth or fifth) client.
Because all of these things can be time sucks, ESPECIALLY in the beginning of your freelance writing career simply because they can make you feel like you’re working on your business, but all you’re really doing is procrastinating. So choose a niche; one of the things I definitely recommend that freelancers do when they first start out.
If you don’t already have a defined niche in mind, peruse major job boards to see what types of writing jobs are in demand.
