Although burning during urination is a telltale sign of a UTI, it can  also be a symptom of a vaginal yeast infection or certain sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). The main danger associated with untreated UTIs is that the infection may  spread from the bladder to one or both kidneys.
Many types of bacteria live in the intestines and genital area, but this is not true of the urinary system. An over-the-counter drug called phenazopyridine can help ease your pain, burning, and irritation. During pregnancy, there are several factors that boost the risk of UTIs, especially a kidney infection.
Estrogen has a protective effect in the urinary tract, but levels of this hormone drop off significantly during menopause.
American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.American Journal of Epidemiology, October 2004. Singapore General Hospital (SGH) is Singapore's flagship hospital offering comprehensive range of medical specialties and services for our patients spanning over two centuries. Following a simple exercise plan is an effective way to control your weight and reduce risk of getting the disease. In Singapore, more than 90 per cent of people with diabetes are over 40 years old and, as the population greys, the number who will develop it is set to rise. Having a parent or sibling with the chronic metabolic disease, being overweight with a body mass index above 23.5, as well as being inactive and older are factors which increase the risk of developing diabetes. According to the World Health Organisation, to reap this benefit, you need 30 minutes of moderately intense physical activity on most days, along with a healthy diet, said Ms Chen Xiumin, a physiotherapist at Singapore General Hospital.
When done safely and correctly, exercise improves blood glucose control and prevents diabetes-related complications, such as heart disease and kidney failure, she said. Physical activity helps the body’s cells absorb and utilise more glucose for energy, thus effectively reducing elevated glucose levels in the body. There are two main types of exercise – aerobic, which generally utilises more glucose; and resistance, which encourages muscle growth and, in turn, increases the body’s storage capacity for glucose. Both aerobic and resistance exercises are beneficial in maintaining blood glucose levels, said Ms Chen, as they can boost the body’s insulin sensitivity for at least 24 hours after exercise, if performed correctly. High-intensity resistance training utilises more glucose and is very effective in building muscle.
However, it poses a higher risk of injury, especially if one has been inactive or does the exercises unguided.
For these reasons, experts recommend performing a combination of aerobic and resistance exercises, at a moderate intensity, and going no more than two consecutive days without exercise, said Ms Chen. As for people with diabetes, most should be able to exercise safely, as long as precautions are taken. These include checking with your doctor before starting an exercise regimen, especially if one has been inactive previously, said Ms Chen. Those who take insulin or certain diabetes medication, such as sulfonylureas, may want to plan ahead. If one’s blood glucose level drops too low, one may faint, have a seizure or even go into a coma.
Stay safe by familiarising yourself with the symptoms of low blood glucose level, such as nervousness or anxiety, sweating, chills, irritability, confusion, a rapid heartbeat, dizziness, hunger and nausea.

When embarking on an exercise regimen, diabetics should monitor their blood glucose levels before, during and after exercise to ensure that adequate blood glucose is maintained throughout, advised Ms Chen. They should learn how their bodies respond to exercise, as this can prevent potentially dangerous fluctuations in blood glucose, she added. For aerobic exercise, any physical activity that causes you to be mildly to moderately breathless is a good choice, as long as it is something you enjoy and will keep doing, said Ms Chen. Resistance training, on the other hand, includes squats, heel raises, crunches, chest presses and bicep curls.
Do note that you need not be in a gym to perform these exercises, which train a variety of large muscle groups so you can maximise your muscle gain, said Ms Chen. One factor that contributes to safe and effective resistance training is a proper posture, which prevents unnecessary stress on joints and muscle strains, she said. As you become more familiar with your body’s response to exercise, the training intensity can be scaled up by doing more repetitions, or increasing your speed and level of resistance, said Ms Chen. Sleep Well is a wireless blood glucose monitoring device concept, designed aiming to eliminate the sleepless nights of parents with the tension of getting their kids glucose level down to the extreme level. It happens when germs infect the system that carries urine out of the body -- the kidneys, bladder, and the tubes that connect them. A bladder infection is generally not a medical emergency -- but some people have a higher risk for complications.
But this is so common, it has its own name -- "honeymoon cystitis." The reason is that sexual activity can push bacteria into the urethra. When bacteria attack the  kidneys, they can cause damage that will permanently reduce kidney function.
When it does happen, it's often related to another underlying medical condition, such as a kidney stone or an enlarged prostate. Your health care provider may recommend drinking lots of fluids and emptying your bladder frequently to help flush out the bacteria. If you have three or more a year, talk to your doctor about how to prevent or minimize these infections.
Hormones cause changes in the urinary tract, and the uterus may put pressure on the ureters or bladder or both -- making it more difficult for urine to pass from the kidneys to the bladder and out. It is intended for general informational purposes only and does not address individual circumstances.
This is because they are more prone to low blood glucose, also called hypoglycaemia, and exercise can increase this risk. They should also hydrate often to protect themselves against dehydration, which arises from high blood sugar levels. The natural tendency to hold one’s breath while lifting a weight could lead to a Valsalva manoeuvre, which refers to a moderately forceful attempt at exhaling against a closed airway. The system comprises a portable and lightweight monitor with an ability to take wireless signal that parents keep with them and a wearable bracelet monitor that remains fastened on the child’s hand to transmit the health condition to the monitor. Untreated UTIs can contribute to preterm labor, so be sure to alert your doctor if you suspect you have an infection. Agitation, delirium, or other behavioral changes may be the only sign of a UTI in elderly men and women.
Their muscles may not relax enough later to fully empty the bladder and flush away any bacteria.
Other children may scream or cry when taken to the potty, as a way of rebelling against the process. There's also a small chance that the infection may enter the  bloodstream and spread to other organs. But severe kidney infections may require hospital care, including a course of intravenous antibiotics. You still need to see your doctor to make sure you get treatment to fight the bacteria that's causing your UTI. This is more often a problem for older adults who require prolonged hospital stays or who live in long-term care facilities. Hug : Thermometer Bracelet for Baby Being a parent means that we are responsible for baby’s well being.
Typically, bacteria travel up the urethra to the bladder, where an infection can take hold. A small number of children have a structural problem that obstructs urine flow or lets urine flow back from the bladder to the kidneys, triggering chronic kidney infections.
If an emergency situation takes place, they can rush to their child’s room with the monitor to perform the aid that has to be taken based on the information displayed on the monitor. But pregnant women, some children, and recipients of kidney transplants should be treated to avoid a kidney infection.
