I am wary of most food fads and didn’t pay much attention to the Canada Maple Syrup representatives at Fitbloggin, but as I was sorting out all my swag, their brochure caught my attention. Before your workout, maple syrup gives you the energy burst needed to power through your exercise regimen.
How interesting I would have never have guessed that it has more nutritional value than honey. I found you ?? I'm not a maple syrup person but I read the handout to and was also surprised. Now we're all going to carry around mini bottles of maple syrup instead of GU gels on long runs. It's my go to sweetener, I use it for baking, topping pancakes, drizzling on roasted or baked sweet potato or pumpkin, a little dash to a smoothie, or a teaspoon added to your banana softserve! CocoI have been running since 2001, through the trials of injuries, raising teenagers, and managing a successful but stressful career. The only little thing I changed up in the recipe was swapping the brown sugar for coconut palm sugar, a lower glycemic unrefined form of sugar! By poaching the salmon there is no need to add any extra fat or calories in the form of oil, and the salmon which is full of healthy fats itself, cooks in the water and soy mixture. Salmon is a great main, it is loaded with essential fatty acids, amino acids, and Vitamin D!
For this dish I went with delicious wild Alaskan Salmon filets, brown rice, and fresh asparagus!

I hope everyone enjoyed their holidays and had some time to relax and spend with friends and family!
I have added this recipe to the Shine Supper Club for January is all about getting back to healthy eating after the holidays – and this is a perfect dish for it!! On a side note, as an ex-vegetarian, you do know that fish is not a vegetarian source of protein, right? We’re celebrating the return to wholesome eating this month on the Shine Supper Club and a recipe like this one would be a lovely addition. Join close to 200,000 subscribersMy research-backed happiness tools have been featured on CNN, Oprah, Psychology Today, The Today Show, etc – and will empower you to live a life you love! I was surprised to see that maple syrup has more of some nutrients than honey, and fewer grams of sugars.
Somehow the maple syrup never made it into my swag bag… ?? Those nutritional stats are impressive. My son ate my little bottles I brought home so didnt get to try it other than at the booth but he said it was great ?? as most kids would. I am not a medical professional, registerd dietician, pyschaitrist, psychologist, priest or otherwise professionally qualified or licensed to provide health, fitness, nutrition, psychological or spiritual advice. I do enjoy chicken or turkey here and there too and I make sure to also get some protein from vegetarian sources as well!

The whole meal comes in at only 405 calories yet contains almost 35g of protein, over 4g of fiber, less than 4g of sugar, and just under 7g of heart healthy fats… which is great for such a wonderful, tasty, balanced, and filling meal!
My husband is going deep sea fishing tomorrow – I’ll definitely be trying this on out soon! Yes, the wording of that sentence made it seem like I was saying salmon is a vegetarian source, lol – I guess I should phrase it differently! My mission is to offer you easy-to-understand insights and tools to empower you to bloom into your happiest, highest potential self. With this in mind… check out my DO IT PROGRAM – an inspiring 4 week online webinar – which gives you psychological tools to feel and look good – for good! I got the recipe from the Chef Micheal Smith Fast Flavors cookbook that I got when I was in Jasper in November and MET HIM!
